Confused about how the preview weekends work
Path of Fire can encapsulate any part of the expansion. As I understood it, this is just a preview of the Elites via the pvp/wvw modes only.
I imagine they are doing this for a reason, possibly so they can work on the feedback for the open world whilst testing the elites in a competitive environment where it will have more impact than in the open world.

So I take it that’s a no, then?
Can any dev confirm this?

Q: Will there be a beta test or early access?
A: We will hold two preview weekend experiences, during which every player with a Guild Wars 2 account in good standing can jump in and play selected expansion content. In the first preview weekend, running August 11-13, players will get a taste of the first open-world map of the expansion and the raptor mount. In the second preview weekend, running August 18-20, players can create demo characters and play in Player vs. Player or World vs. World with the nine new elite specializations. If you don’t have a Guild Wars 2 account, you can register here to play the preview weekend event and the core Guild Wars 2 game for free! Please keep checking http://guildwars2.com/path-of-fire for more information as it becomes available.
Will we be able to go into Crystal Oasis and ride the mounts again this upcoming preview weekend?
No, but apparently later by the end of the month:

Likely by keeping everyone in the competitve modes, they can monitor any balance issues more accurately. Open world doesn’t really give that opportunity

I don’t think that is another playable preview, more a specific blog post/video/stream about them

See, this is still not super specific, and doesn’t really blatantly state that the new zone won’t be available in the second preview weekend. Reading it again, one can sort of imply that it will be the case, but it’s still not very clear. I don’t doubt it, of course. It’s just that they could’ve phrased things better.
Does it say that you can play on Crystal Desert this weekend? No.

That sucks ’cause that was legit the only good thing about preview weekends; exploration.
