A number of us are very confused on how stat scaling actually works according to your level and gear, and the zone you are in.

For example:
If I am a lvl 80 with full exotics in a lvl 20 zone, do I have higher stats than a lvl 80 in the same zone with full fine quality gear?
Similarly, does a lvl 55 with best-in-slot gear for his level have the same stats as a lvl 80 with full exotics in that lvl 20 zone?
And also, does a lvl 20 with full best-in-slot gear for his level have the same stats as the lvl 55 and lvl 80 with BIS gear in the same zone, or do the higher leveled characters have more stats from their levels after their gear scale is calculated?

Additionally, does gear scale upwards? Does a lvl 20 with full BIS gear for his level have better stats than a lvl 80 without full exotics in WvW?

Would really appreciate anyone who would take the time to answer this, really curious about the topic.

No it doesn’t as your level won’t be 80 in WvW , it means that if your level is 20 , it will be 20 in WvW.
The only things that give you level 80 is PvP/mists or living stories.

No. The lv 80 with full exotic gear has higher stat that a lv 55 with best gear, in a level 20 zone

No, a lv 20 with full best-in-slot gear for his level have lower stats than a lv 55 and a lv 80 with BIS gear in the same zone since the lv 55 and lv 80 guys have more stats from their gears and traits

The gear itself is also scalled down (or up), but while the lower level gear has only one stat, the higher ones can have 2 or 3, depending on level – lower level eq when scaled up won’t get those additional stats, nor do the higher level eq lose them when scaled down.

Also, level 80 will have a full complement of traits, which is also an advantage.
So yes, basically, fully geared level 80’s will always be strongest. Scaling reduces that advantage, but doesn’t completely remove it.

You’ll do fine with fine gear (no pun intended), but with rares/exotics you’ll really see a difference.

That said, I like to wear lower level gear in lower zones just so I get some diversity in how I look, fashionably. There are some nice looking mid level armors, where most of the high level armors all look the same.

But then, I also like to buy high level armor for the stats and then transmute those stats onto nicer looking low lever armor – so either way works.
