So, maybe I’m missing something important but after coming back from a short break they’ve rolled out the new traits system. After repurchasing all of my old skills, I’ve still got hundreds of ‘hero points’ left over, with seemingly nothing to spend them on, but that’s fine.

However one thing I was concerned about before the update arrived, and the one thing which now concerns me, is the removal of stats from trait lines.

One of the benefits to having it linked to traits was that I could put bonus stats in certain areas where my gear was lacking. For example, extra vitality and healing to give myself a bit more survivability while using berserker gear. That customization seems to be lost forever.

My build, such as it was, now feels a lot less impactful and a lot less powerful than before. I’ve also lost a significant amount on other stats as a result of the changes.

Was it Anet’s intention to weaken character builds or is this just the first step towards the upcoming specializations which will rebalance the classes?

since its moved over to items time to take away a berserker item and add a cleric then mate

Edit
Yes traits are changed you have to make choices what 3 lines to get some are merged together like guardian downed state reduce health slower and the every 10sec you remove a condition for example.

You can find just as good builds as before if you just play around with it.
Weaker builds what are you talking about they had to buff bosses since everyone was boosted condtion alot more then berserkers but they got their share aswell ( dident need as much of a boost since they were already high up there )

Maybe I should be more specific. In order to get my stats similar to the way they were before I need to sacrifice a not inconsiderable amount of power to do so. In short, it would be a weaker build than before.

There’s no combination of equipment that would bring me to the same level as I was previously, because the amounts given by each piece are so much higher. If I sacrifice one of the weaker pieces I lose out on other stats and don’t gain as much on the new stats. If I sacrifice one of the stronger pieces, I end up with less power than before and gain comparable healing/vit.

If they wanted to separate traits from stats, why didn’t they do so and put stats as a separate option to spend hero points on?

I think that was part of the plan, honestly. Keep in mind, however, they boosted armor stats to try and bridge the gap.

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….

I think Draknar is right. Pax is also correct- they removed stats from traits but also made up the difference by boosting other stats.

I think that being able to choose three grandmaster traits also balances this loss out a little.

As mentioned, there are easy ways to get around this problem. Most people I’ve encountered change up their trinkets (and sometimes weapons) as this is the cheapest option but also the most impactful.

A-net released the ability to change the stats of ascended weapons and armour with the trait change. This means that people could readily change their stat distribution if they needed to and didn’t feel like they wasted hundreds of gold for ascended gear that only fit their previous builds.

The advantage of removing stats from traits is that it frees up a lot of potential with builds. Some trait lines would be generally avoided because of their “less tempting” associated stats. So this meant that particular traitlines (with their particular weapon and skill effects) would be more favourable regardless of synergies and trait effects which reduces build variety.

I seem to be rambling a bit. What I’m trying to say is that now all skill and weapon types have equal opportunity to shine because people aren’t biased over them because they don’t have any alternate and unique benefits.
