I have seen several places (though not officially? maybe i’m missing it)
that when you buy a gw2 expansion you get access to “all content”

does that mean that if i buy HoT i will get access to FUTURE expansions? or just previous ones.

what is anet even DOING these days haha oof…

if it’s just previous expansions / the core game that is the worst model… it’s like a microtransaction for a phone game, if you want it now pay up, if you can wait you’ll always get a better value. how silly.

I don’t think it’s ‘silly’ that the Devs would like to be paid for their hard work every year or 3.

Still, opinions are like …um…noses; everyone has one.

Um… that’s the way practically everything has worked, ever. Especially video games.

If you want to wait until the last expansion ever for Guild Wars comes out, so you can get all of the previous expansions included, feel free. You’ll just be missing years of play time and content. Your call.

Are you new to expansions? Every game ive ever played, Neverwinter nights for example(the old game) if you bought it when it came out like i did, you then had to buy the first expansion, then the second expansion later on. So yes, if they do another expansion you will have to buy it.

The pvp community reminds me of what Obi-kittenenobi describes Mos Eisley as from star wars.

You must be new to expansions altogether as having to pay for future expansions has been the norm.

Also, read these.

Well, you can either pay for each expansion when they release and enjoy the content while it is new and the community is working on it which tends to give better experiences, but what ever content that is made that is a 1 shot deal. Or you can wait for maybe 10 years (give or take) and just buy the final expansion and get everything at once for 1 low price.

It takes money to make this content and keep everything running. They are just leaving money on the table when they were trying to get all their money from GEM Store only, when there are going to be a massive number of people who would buy an expansion but spent very little in the store. I am hoping they come out with expansions like this more often, say do it every 2 or 3 living story seasons. Guild Wars 2 is already saving me a boat load of money on MMO playing because of the lack of subscription fee, I am more than happy to pay $50 every 1 to 1.5 years for more quality content. I also have no problem with new players coming in and not having to buy the core game, or any previous expansions, as far as I am concerned when a new expansion releases everything before it has a value of $0.

It’s a common model.

  • If I want to see the latest movie when it comes out, I can pay $12-15 for a theater ticket — or, I can wait and see it at home via Redbox for $1.35 about 6 months later.
  • If I want to read the latest S. M. Stirling Emberverse novel I can pay $27 — or wait until it comes out in paperback a year later and pay $10.
  • If I want to play the latest SPRPG when it first comes out, I can pay $60 — or wait a year to 18 months and get it in a bargain bin for $10.

You’re paying for access while the product is new, and when it is most desirable. That comes at a premium, and always has. How is that silly?
