Consensus about the current ingame rewards
I think that there have been more than enough topics about this subject to conclude that most forumdwellers do not like the current loot system.
Still, curious about the general feelings toward ingame rewards, even though this thread will probably be closed within the next day.
I see the game split between two sides:
- People who play to have fun, regardless of rewards. Those players are more interested in having fun dynamic events and fun dungeons available to them than about the impact of magic find in monster drops.
- Grinders who do not care about the content they play, just the rewards they get. Those are the players who are responsible for the way all classic MMOs are mediocre, by accepting all games with terrible “kill ten rats” quests simply because they gave big rewards in the end.
IMO, one of those two groups is happy with GW2, the other isn’t. Considering how ArenaNet has said “we don’t want players to grind”, “we don’t make grindy games” and so on… I think everything is working as intended.
I only wish ArenaNet would remove some of the latest addition to the game, that were added due to a vocal minority from classic MMOs whining in the forum. Ascended gear, RNG item acquisition… All that stinks of classic MMO mechanics, which were exactly what some people here asked for.

Hard to tell, due to the rapid pace at which threads regarding loot are closed. Could just be a vocal minority (and indeed there are lots of repeat posters rather than unique opinions). I’ve seen mixed opinions on most, however, and made this to count replies before it’s closed.

Two things.
1. Fun is a buzzword unless you explicitly describe what is it you’re enjoying.
2. Holy polarity batman. What about the people who finished all the content and grind their way towards their endgame reward of choice?

This is silly and more than a tad biased. in fact, it’s COMPLETELY biased.
The players in category A, would seemingly be happy if you handed them a lava lamp and told them to watch it. Being easily amused and satisfied is NOT a reason to avoid evolving the game to incorporate the BEST of both worlds and improve the game overall. Stop being so short sighted folks.

If it were a beautiful lava lamp? Definitely, and I’m proud of that. Meanwhile, players in category B could be shown the Mona Lisa and would demand to be paid for viewing it (since they need a reward in order to enjoy something).

you said it
btw I am not easily amused, that is why I don’t own a TV
I think it is nonsense to keep equating people who play for fun with air-heads, while making gear/loot grinders out to be the be all and end all.
OT I have been leveling alts and I have found that I get much better loot drops than on my main. I would like for champs to always drop loot but mostly I am happy the way it is. I would just like it to be more consistent.

Then stop acting like air heads?
I’m sorry but the overall bubbly fluffy “zomg this game is the best ever” while a subjective opinion, often doesn’t really lend itself to ACTUAL reasoning, and often is just tossed around with no rationalization. It’s totally fine to enjoy this game, heck is by no means a crime, but to keep acting as if it doesn’t have many issues that still need to be addressed and isn’t a “great game despite it’s flaws” as opposed to “da greatest game evarer” simply just doesn’t seem well… believable.
Considering I class myself in the “I would rather not have grind AT ALL or just the absolute minimum” camp I often find it humorous that players think I’m asking for vertical progression grinds of eliteness instead of just asking that players stop glossing over the problems because they either don’t affect them personally or they just fail to understand the issues.
No, you’re not airheads and I’m sorry if it comes across that way, but it’s VERY hard to take someone who seems completely oblivious to fairly significant issues seriously.
The argument that “rewards r bad mkay” is ludicrous as well, without progression or at least “aesthetic” progression which are fueled by “effort =/= reward” mechanics, it wouldn’t be a “game” at all… Everything is a reward in a game, be it simply “winning” the game or be it unlocking or obtaining a reward, it’s inherently PART of all game mechanics.
So if you want rewardless games, or games that are “their own reward” then I suggest a radical new idea in the line of entertainment, they’re called… “MOVIES” there’s even the interactive kind that gives you the illusion you’re IN THE MOVIE!!!! and looks JUST like a video game! WIN WIN WIN!
The biggest reward however is that we don’t end up resenting players for wanting the inherent mechanics of a game improved for the betterment of all at the detriment of some nonsensical notion that you’re “self entitled” for not feeling rewarded by badly designed content and loot tables etc.
But to add to this, I’d much rather there was more enjoyable repeatable content in this game that ya know, challenged and wasn’t riddled with flaws, but hopefully that will be implemented when GW2 is actually finished, as it was released unfinished and that’s always been apparent
So far I’m not bothered by the loot drops, or perceived lack thereof. I haven’t started trying to get ‘endgame’ gear yet, so that might change.
What I am bothered by is I can’t seem to get enough cotton cloth or scraps! That is really driving me crazy.
If they continue to add garbage like RNG drops, or anything that reeks of another MMO’s loot system, cotton scraps won’t matter because I’ll stop playing and take my money I would spend on gem purchases and go somewhere else.

oK I’ll try and reply to your points:
A lot of players who love the game are very aware of it’s flaws and have been making suggestions since the game launched on how to improve it.
The difference is that what we see as flaws are not the same as what you might see.
I also don’t think that those flaws are so glaring that it stops me enjoying the game.
As for best game ever ( your spelling is just condescending) To some people it is yes.
NO one said rewards in itself are bad ( one again your dialect is ridiculous) What is bad is expecting a reward for walking down the road and if one is not forthcoming saying “wherz my phat lootz?” ( see how that sounds?)
I am all for rewards- more skins, more fun stuff, hell even better gear- I don’t freak out if I don’t get it because I like playing the game for what it is.
Your whole WIn Win – movie statement makes no sense since the people you call lava- lamp watchers, wouldn’t care about winning, according to you.
As for you last two paragraphs those are entirely your opinion and this is also the kind of thing that led to Ascended gear, “making the game better for all” and look how that went down.
You need to accept that while this game does have issues- calling it inherently flawed because it does not work the way you want it to- is not really as universal as you would like to think.

The fun crowd plays towards their endgame reward of choice without grinding. You would be flabbergasted to find that most people actually aren’t affected by DR because they don’t do the same thing over and over like a lobotomized goldfish.
People who play for fun have no idea what this whole DR fuss is about. GW1 did have DR too and guess what … the best way to earn gold happened to be playing the game legit. Doing dungeons, missions and getting titles netted me thousands of plat without breaking a sweat.
So DR is just the same as saying “you’ve been playing this game for 3 hours, please take a break”.

Here you assume that all people have a set form of “fun” with no deviation allowed. Surely I don’t need to explain how kittening kitten this statement is.

Two things yet again:
1. Irrelevance.
2. The veiled implication there’s only one “legit” way of playing the game.
So DR is just the same as saying “you’ve been playing this game for 3 hours, please take a break”.
Yeah, no. DR is saying “we think you’ve been doing the same thing for too much time according to our skewed perception of reality, so here’s a big `kitten you` to whatever you’re doing, you get no loot, good day sir”.
Your arguments are invalid.
Yet again: Without an explicit description of what exactly you’re enjoying while playing the game, “fun” is merely a buzzword.
Here you assume that all people have a set form of “fun” with no deviation allowed. Surely I don’t need to explain how kittening kitten this statement is.
Grind is not fun. I’ve not met a single person in any game who would consider grinding a fun activity. Sure, the end result is fun, but that end result could be gotten through other activities which are inherently fun and have gold as a side effect. There is no set form of “fun”, but one thing that, by definition, is not fun is grind. Only grinders are affected by DR.
Two things yet again:
1. Irrelevance.
2. The veiled implication there’s only one “legit” way of playing the game.
There are plenty of legit ways to play the game. Grinding is not one of them, or rather it is, but it is discouraged with DR. I never claimed what you should do. I only told you what you shouldn’t do, namely repeating activities that aren’t fun after so much time that you seem to hit DR.
Yeah, no. DR is saying “we think you’ve been doing the same thing for too much time according to our skewed perception of reality, so here’s a big `kitten you` to whatever you’re doing, you get no loot, good day sir”.
Another way of saying, please take a break, you’re clearly addicted to something that isn’t fun. If only smoking had DR.
Your arguments are invalid.
Yet again: Without an explicit description of what exactly you’re enjoying while playing the game, “fun” is merely a buzzword.
Well, I never said what you should do. You’ve been fighting against a strawmen. Please respond to my actual argument instead. DR is a discouragement for grinding, which, by definition, is not fun.

From pretty much every player i speak to in game about loot and rewards they unanimously all agree its poor to bad.
Even random people agree things aren’t good in open world..
Hopefully these patches will address that.
