Do you think you guys can develop a console version for this game? Since the new consoles will be running on an x86 architecture platform.

while the development process will be easier now I think that when they said no it still stands.
their reasons were:
it’s far harder to update an xbox or a PS game. You have to go trough very specific channels and stores. Essentially updating the game would cost them and because they’re doing it every 2 weeks it’s not worth it.
They’re hoping for a lot of sales in Asia. Console market is not that big in Asia.
My reasons would be:
consoles are behind PC specs by a mile by now. Releasing the game there would mean that they would have to cut out so much graphics that the product would lose its quality. And it’s simply not fair for companies to be offering products of bad quality.
Console crowd is very different to PC crowd. Does it mean that we would divide the community even more? Into PC NA, PC EU, Console NA, Console EU? If so, would consoles have enough players to do meta events? If not, then is it really a good idea to mix two very different crowds?
Aiming and locking with a gamepad is harder than with a mouse. Does that mean that console users would get aim assist? Seems very unfair when it comes to WvW and PvP. And if they don’t get aim assist then once again it’s not fair in WvW and PvP.

Except it’s a weak x86 platform. 8 low power laptop/tablet cores with 8GB of unified memory. Not saying an MMO can’t be designed to play in this fix platform, just that to do it right you really need to do it from scratch to take advantage of ALL hardware resources.

We are heroes. This is what we do!

plus there’s no evidence that mmos would take off on consoles. I know, both FFIV and ESO are planning on console releases but it could very well be a giant flop.

Then we have to look at elitism that will inevitably spawn. A friend of mine’s been in the FFIV beta and there’s alot of PC players that just do not trust the capabilities of console players due to the control system and Square Enix struggling with targetting on the PS3.

EQOA was the first console only MMO that I know of, and I had a blast playing it for a while. It never really gained a huge following though. There was definitely a hardcore base of about 300-500 that stuck with it all the way to the end but that hardly qualifies it as a success I think. It’s the first MMO that I know of that Sony completely dropped servers on and no longer supports.

I know others have come since, but they never seem to take off as well as the PC versions. I think it has a lot to do with what people own consoles and PC’s for.

1 – FF14 worked amazingly well with a controller on PC so I can’t see why it will be any different for console.

2 – You do realise that Xbox’s and Ps3’s etc can plug in keyboards and mice right? It’s not that hard a concept really! O.O

Since when did this business of being a hero become being a business?

no one cares about mmos on consoles

Fact: every Thief tells you to “l2p” when the subject is to nerf stealth.
