Consortium = NCsoft/Nexon?
I think if I were R.J.Reynolds, I would be rich! ; )
You should of been here when The Lost Shores was first released. There was tons of conspiracy threads that had a lot of interesting data on how Anet was being taken over by Nexon/NCSoft. There were so many references that Anet put in the game that hinted at it and made a lot of sense. The forum even had several topics on all these references and conspiracies, but I believe most of them got locked or deleted.
But honestly, and in my opinion, it is obvious what is going on. No doubt about it. It wasn’t until a certain someone from Nexon was hired that all this started happening. You’d have to be blind not to see it.
But of course everyone is going to say “they have to make money somehow” or “this pays for future free content”. Sure it does. But it shouldn’t do it at the expensive of your reputation and the respect that players used to have for you. Sure a business is there to make money, but these kind of tactics go beyond that. There is other ways for a company to make money than making their customers waste it on a wheel spin of chance. All they are doing is destroying what little respect the players had for them, and tarnishing their reputation.
While it may seem good to them now that they are making money this way, in the long run, it is going to cause more harm than good to them. And they just don’t seem to care.
EDIT: Aha! And I found a couple of them. lol

^This!! This was the kitten!
I love these conspiracy theories as they always give me something to laugh at. For instance from the mmorpg.com blog link above
threw 7 years of game philosophy (whether you agreed with it or not), trust, and credibility down the drain in order to, apparently, introduce a gear-treadmill monetization scheme that would require people to either endure a massive grindfest to keep up with top gear stats, or pay to keep up by buying gems in the cash shop, converting them to gold, and then buying Ascended gear and infusions off the trading post.
Essentially, the game has become a pay-to-win scheme.
Given that there is no way to actually acquire ascended items with gold (or gems) 6 months after the new tier was introduced, the author of this blog has absolutely no credibility.

To be honest I did not remotely find it hard to believe. Anet DID do a 180 degree with Guild Wars 2.
At this point, every single person I know who plays has sworn off giving ANet any monetary support whatsoever until an official statement is released that there will be no more gambling with real cash. Myself included.
And yes you can claim ’It’s not gambling, you always get something’, which is a fair point, but a semantical one; it’s sickeningly greedy, corrupt, and morally wrong no matter what you or ANet labels it.

I think the consortium seems more like the players they want loot/profit and are constantly commenting on Anet bottom line. If any thing i think the players of GW2 are worst then the stock holders.

there is also a line you can ask to the npc near the fractal portal in the room where consortium is based in LA (POI is called consortium gift shop), you can ask her:
“so you are a rival of the black lion trading company?”
“i wouldn’t say rival, but yes. we believe competition among vendors is good for the customer. we’re going to put our product out there and let the market decide”

Except every product the consortium has offered thus far has had undisclosed ‘conditions’ purposely hidden from the purchaser. This is starting to sound more and more accurate…
I played Vindictus for over a year and that game was sort of pay2win. It’s a kittening grindfest even if you bought services that gave extra loot drops on bosses, to the point it was necessary to get to be on par with the average playerbase. But the stat increase was minimal; it was all about getting the latest armor set for the visual appeasement. All these new schemes strongly remind me of Vindictus, only players are probably spending more on this game than it, simply because GW2 allows you to show yourself off to more players in PvE/WvW.
Kind of a personal story there, because I quit Vindictus after getting sick and tired of more or less being forced to pay to enjoy the game.
since the very 1st day, i remember to say: Koreans is pulling anet strings. they infract me that time. but i don’t kity perry care. we have even the stupid cat affection in forum as much azian does.
I think the RnG based chest they keep throwing out for cosmetic skins kittens a lot of people off and tricks a lot of players to spend money in the game. It’s a short sighted money making opportunity that will backfire on them eventually.
Still waiting for tin foil hats at the Gem Shop.
RIP City of Heroes
This theory makes me very sad.

What this forum REALLY needs is something like the +1 button next to posts, that shows a picture of a tinfoil hat, so we can rate some of these posts more accurately.
So people are interpreting this as cries for help? This makes GW2 more epic.
Lol I beat you to the punchline by a few hours but they moved it to another section like they will probably do to this thread.

Just watched that video. It is very obvious that they are directly referencing their own relationship between themselves, their ‘higher-ups’ and the players. It is like a hidden cry for help, sad really.
sigh I was wondering why the dye system changed to balls before release. I really wish that they could stay in their phylosophies. Is this the reason for the entire living story also? Sheer profit from the gem store and no development towards an expansion? Milk GW2 until it dies vs develop the story and give people meaningful content?
Hi, this thread is not related to the game in itself. It is therefore closed.
