They removed the NPC that lets you exchange the shells for the accessory, did they not?

I don’t see the NPC at Canach’s Folly in JQ.

So, if I buy 50+ Consortium chests I will get the same item I got from the one time event? Hmm…

If caiomacos is correct, then winning is going to be pretty expensive.

They are limited time only for the event. Besides that how is it pay to win when you can get them from the mystic forge even cheaper than it would cost to buy them with real $$?

Or you can, ya know, kill a few thousand karka. Yer not paying to win you are paying for shortcuts. You can get 1000 karka shells without spending a single gem if you put your mind to it. In the process you would also get other useful mats and gold.

As far as I’m aware they promised they would not have items for sale for gems that gave any stats advantage over another. And with the exception of boosters, which are insignificant enough to be meaningless (and again are entirely obtainable without spending a single gem with some luck) I don’t see anything like that.

They were going to stop selling them at the end of the weekend.

Then again they were going to stop selling the Halloween chest at the end of that event but kept them in (while removing forging mad king chests) till the start of this event as a treat for themselves.

It’s not pay to win because you could have that item for free just by attending Sunday’s event.

‘Beginning of’. Thats how Pay to Win works. Pay for shortcuts. Pay for bigger shortcuts. Not mention many people couldn’t actually go to these events.

If you pay to have something that someone else will need 6 months to attain, then you are paying to be able to win during these 6 months, until the opponent is able to catch up, obviously. It’s not “is it either pay2win or just a shortcut?”, it’s “a pay2win shortcut”.

Its not pay to win if you can get the items in the game legitimately. People really need to quit changing the meaning of words to suite their argument.

Item is fairly bad for WvW.

Not sure about dungeon runs, but since there are no server and world firsts in this game, does anyone care?

But it already started long ago with armour boosters etc.
Let me be precise: it started when the current Monetization Director took over, with experience in one and only one model of a cash shop: Pay2Win cash shop.

According to gw2spidy.com:
Karka shells go for 2s08c each. x1000, that’s 20g80s.
The maximum amount of karka shells given by the chest is 21, according to the wiki. Therefore, you’d need to open 50 chests to get enough, if you’re really lucky.
100 gems cost 1g15s. to get 10 consortium chests, it’s 20g70s. So, for 50 chests, it’d be 101g40s of gems.
Or, using real money, it’d be 112.50 dollars @1.25 per 100 gems.

Or you could buy an amulet fitting to your build for less than 3g, and do better. No, 25 vit and toughness won’t save your kitten if you’re in full zerker.

So, 112 dollars for an accessory that’s no better than a 3g one. You can call it p2w, if you want.
