Hello everyone,
I want to be clear that I am not trolling, but after watching the guild mag interviews I have to say that the communication between arena net has left me in a bad spot.
First of all, it’s not just the devs in this interview that do these things, it’s pretty much all of you. Your vagueness and the amount of " I don’t knows" and " I can’t say anything" all togethor frustrate your community more than anything. You guys need some serious improvement on this front.

1). Cut out the " I don’t knows". In ANY business the last thing you tell a customer is “I don’t know”. This is an absolute no. There are no ways around it. You as a company need to come up with a better phrase because this one is completely unacceptable. When you say it, even when you truly don’t know something, it still makes you come across as ignorant or shady. You can tell us " it’s to hard to implement " or even I don’t believe we are doing that " but never I don’t know. If you don’t know, why even do the interview??

2). Having people talk about parts of the game they don’t even work on is a mistake. For example " we didn’t put first person view in because of our combat system" (paraphrase). I personally don’t care about this at all because I pvp only and really this is more of a pve/rp thing. But the dev who made this comment is a wvw dev. He has nothing to do with this at all. Secondly, do you think we are so dumb that we would even attempt to use this in wvw or pvp?? Please give us a little more credit. I understand he was attempting to give a better comment than saying " I don’t know" but in this case it would have been better to leave it where the first dev did.

3). SAB- once again I don’t care about this content but basically having 2 people who have nothing to do with it say what they said about it makes no sense. This atleast was an honest answer that left the possibility of it coming back but not right now. Once again, having people who don’t even work on that project announce this was not a good move and has created a lot of backlash

4). " we took underwater combat out of pvp because it was hard for people to understand" (paraphrase pretty much). This…is a flat out false statement. You took it out of pvp because it was broken, unbalanced, and everyone hated it. Underwater combat does not belong in pvp. Please stop blaming your community for just flat out bad ideas on your part. This comment probably kittened me off more than any other. Once again, made by a dev that has nothing to do with pvp.

Finally, I would just like to say, you can be real with us, and most of us will really appreciate it. But I don’t like it when someone speaks for 10 minutes and says absolutely nothing to me. You are not politicians, you are game designers. You are the only ones who know what the next steps in your game will be and how they will roll out. We are just along for the ride. We can backseat drive all dy but you have the wheel. Just an idea of the future destination is appealing to most of us, and we are tired of driving at night with no headlights.

To summarize: stop the " I don’t knows" and political banter. You will ALWAYS have people dissappointed no matter what you do but even more so when you don’t tell us anything until you release it. We want this game to succeed as much as you.

Plus don’t delete k thanks

They should say “I don’t know” only when it is part of this sentence:

“I don’t know, but I will look into it and get back to you or have someone more familiar with the system make an announcement.”

That’s a better response than ignoring a statement.

…after watching the guild mag interviews…

… But the dev who made this comment is a wvw dev. He has nothing to do with this at all.

So… in the context of interviews like the one in question, how do you reconcile #1 and #2?

they were asked a direct question.. about something they don’t work on. you don’t want them to say “i don’t know”, but you also don’t want them to answer if it’s not within their area of focus.

situations like these (and the massive overreaction that followed) are exactly why they’ve communicated less and less over the past two years.

no matter what they try, they can never win.

It’s called screening. You know when you see people go on tv and are asked questions?? Most the time they are screened. They say " here are the things I can talk about and ere are the things I won’t talk about." That’s how most business keep their image. That would answer #2. #1 Question: what game modes for pvp are currently in development? You could say : we are testing multiple game modes for pvp all different from conquest. We are not taking anything off the table and are trying to did the best option. Hell, maybe even tell us what modes are even options. Instead, once again they leave us in the dark while putting their eggs into one basket. The words " I don’t know" is what I am picking out because in people’s minds when you say those words, they don’t think you know anything. That’s what I am pointing out.
As far as that post goes, that is the political non sense I am talking about. There is nothing different there from what has been said multiple times. Get someone who can actually say something about the direction of your game. They clearly must have an idea of where they want to take it, they don’t go in everyday and say " you know I think that I would like to make an exclusive armor set for pvp." And then go it alone. That was discussed and thought over for a long time and then produced. Yet, we had no idea it was even in the works. Just a small bit of info can go a long way and can bring them a lot of player feedback.
