Consumables Nerf
To mitigate performance issues, items that summon pets now have a 30-minute cooldown.
Bloin – Running around, tagging Keeps, getting whack on Scoobie Snacks.
ok just saw that part. It was still uneccesary though. I dont mind a bit of lag knowing i have a pet by my side
Either you like to run on low settings or you’re embellishing. Fire Ele most certainly caused tremendous graphic lag. Each fire ele had distinct, graphic animations and three aoes. Multiple that with a zerg and you have very obvious lag. Don’t act like you had 60 FPS.

guess who went shopping for hundreds of whistles and powders on 3 toons today?
sadface.
i can tolerate small nerfs…you could have given a 30 seconds to 5 minutes cooldown and it would still chafe but i could handle it, but 30 minutes? heavy-handed-nonsense.
(edited by Mimizu.7340)
my screen on the otherhand would become a slideshow with more than 3 Embers out as soon as they started spamming their lava fonts.
Dont get me wrong, I loved them, and I used them whenever I could (I have 250 on each of my characters), but they did indeed cause performance issues on some machines.
Performance issues…. Yeah right. They didn’t want people using these anymore so they nerfed them into the ground.
I’ve seen over 50 at one time on my screen with no issues for me.
If you are going to nerf something just say you are nerfing it because you don’t want people using them. Don’t fall back on a general excuse.
You thought anet would be straight with us?
The charzooka is probably a bug, but the CD was post in the notes.
Yeah, I think they used the performance only as excuse, who knows?
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
Exactly my point. They are really useful when trying solo a champ and even at tequatl ive seen tons of them as well. No performance issues just the usual lag because of the large amount of players.
Wtf am i supposed to do with the 250+ of each cosumable?!
The charzooka nerf was not needed either. It had a timer when it ran out which was good. You really expect us to pay 1s for 1 shot of the charzooka?! Errr no thanks!
Really sad that they are so hard up for cash that they have to change miniscule things such as this.
My comment to this type of ongoing un-funness is 73 days and counting till the end of this for me.
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
It’s just like the shortbow animation glitch.
Please don’t insult our intelligence!
The embers may have caused some lag but was the solution really adding a 30min timer?!

Well what other solution could they have provided? They could have reskinned the ember to have less graphical movement, they could have retraited its skills to be less graphical and calculation-intensive…or they could have done the quick and reasonable fix of putting a timer so people wouldn’t spam them.
Warrior Tester One: Woah, where’s Teq? All i can see is an island full of pets…
Warrior Tester Two: Let’s Nerf That Poop! Heh…
Genius At Work
If its a performance issue they should of just made it that in the surrounding area you can only use “insert #” amount of them. The timer is us being forced to not use them so often like in Teq burn phases… which may be something to do with the new content too… I’m at work and don’t know what the new content is like. We have to come up with new stratagies I guess

They could also just add a tickbox to the Graphics Options to cull them, just like we have the ability to do with ranger pets and minions and other players.
This should have had a client-side fix, it’s performance is (in this case) a client-side issue.

Or put the timer on it and cause outrage in the community.
The reasonable option would be to make it less graphical. Probblem solved and no complaints.

The time it would take to program such a condition-based fix is not worth it. Besides, I cold just ‘exploit’ this feature and open my ember away from everyone.
Guess burn phase for Teq will need to be renamed!

Can we cull specific objects? AFAIK we can only change object quantity and quality. We can’t pick and choose who or what to cull.

The outrage is overblown or non-existent. If you barely finished Teq pre-patch with embers, then I can’t really sympathize now after aptch.
Making it less graphical is a long fix. We know the art team is swamped because they can’t even fix Eternity.
I guess I just feel sad about this. Because when I was leveling for the first time I’d buy these things at various event npcs and heart npcs… And these pets would help me out. I said “wow these are cool!”. Now they make them essentially useless to anyone at all…. It’s just disappointing.
And all who stood by and did nothing, who are they to criticize the sacrifices of others?
Our blood has bought their lives.
I have adjusted my setting so that everyone else apart from my toon appear as faceless grey pvpers, all i see is their back-item and/or weapons, ranger pets and minions and minis. Once they are about 900 ( game range terms ) away from me, i just see bobbing nametags.
Anyone who is transformed will be seen normally and anything from a summoning item.
All they need do is correct that and i wont see them beyond 900 either.
In a zerg, i can stand 1000 away and just see a mass of names and effects on the mobs.
Does the timer really have to be 30min long?
How about 7min or something? lol

That’s one thing that I disagree with. I think 30 minutes is too long, and 5 minutes is optimal. But I understand why they nerfed it.
This is too specific to be a bug, and I’m irritated about it, especially since I ALWAYS have an Ember out.
I’m not happy about this. There was no reason for the nerf.
I’ll accept that the charzooka cool down is a bug, and one that should (must) get sorted out quickly.
The 30 minute cool down on Pet items is ridiculous. I accept their reasoning of implementing it, but again, 30 minutes is far too excessive.
At Most it should be 15 minutes … and even then.
This is riddiculous. 30m, seriously?
They might as well remove these consumables. What’s the point of them now?
Incoming Quaggans [iQ]
There is no point. Problem is now are they going to change it along with the charzooka
Making all pets have 30 min cooldown just because embers are giving problems? I wonder if they considered reskinning the embers? Looks like they took the easy way out as usual (See TA/Forward-UP).
As for the performance issues: I see performance issues when zooming in very close while blasting stealth fields, are we gonna see a 30 minute cooldown on stealth as well?

Yep, they add flavour, this change is just pathetic. Fire eles go down very easily, to have to wait 30 mins for another is just ridiculous. Like the other guy said counting the days until the other game comes out.

It is indeed sad that they develop a game apart from the traditional trinity, but maintain the same industry standard spitting-in-the-face-of-your-customers ‘balance’ practices hinged on bold faced lies to their customers faces. After spending at least $300 on gems in the past year, I’m now inclined to use as much of their bandwidth as humanly possible while never giving them another dime.
Yeaaaaah I’m sure that’ll get you very far. Good luck with that!
It’s not necessary to pay real world dollars for gems in order to do everything in this game which is one of the things I’m always complimenting Anet on. I really like what they came up with, but I’ve also been pretty disappointed in some of their less than smooth moves. Mind you, this coming from the perspective of one of the people who has shelled a bunch of cash into this game to pay their salaries & keep the lights on. I don’t expect VIP treatment for providing the profit, but blowing smoke up my kitten is not going to endear me to any longer paying those salaries. I’ll simply join the ranks of those who play as many hours as possible while never putting anything in Anet’s coffers & we’ll see how good of a business model that turns out to be. “I’m sure that’ll get them very far good luck with that”
As far as I’m concerned, they’ve done a reasonable job at handling the flame kissed armor fiasco & a few other snafus/adjustments, but they’re obviously not at the level of doing the right thing w/o first experiencing the wailing & gnashing of teeth from disgruntled customers to inspire them.
They kiss it & make it better, maybe I’ll resume supporting their careers. They don’t, then f em. I pay for other people to play this game because they’re not paying. Like I said I don’t expect VIP treatment, but there’s no rational reason for me to tolerate bs.
Riiight, so that’s your natural response to a nerf to an ember? That single nerf makes you sooooo mad that you hope Anet employees would lose their careers?

Please don’t give them any ideas!!!!
I already look stupid sometimes trying to go into stealth with revealed up.
Yeah, I know…L2P.
It’s likely this nerf isn’t about performance issues. That’s the excuse, but I would guess it has more to do with Anet’s epic world boss fights (Tequatl) being trivialized by the consumables. I hadn’t heard of anyone complain about performance issues from Fire eles. I think if someone had to choose “Do I want to have good FPS with no consumables” or “Do I want the last 15min of fighting a super world boss to actually matter?” or “Can my server even do the bosses without them?” many would pick the latters. They don’t want us burning down said bosses with 80+ Fire eles+Ogre pets+Mortars on each phase. They probably have issues with people bringing them commonly to dungeons now too (like myself).
Essentially another weird nerf. If you had issues with performance just turn all graphic settings to lowest or get a new (newer) computer. My computer is now 5 years old and I have no issues with fire eles slowing me down to even remotely reaching unplayable DPS (I just lower my settings if I do). Really who cares.
The only other thing I could see is that consumable usage may have been straining Anet servers on their end. This would be troubling as such a trivial issue straining servers would also spell doom for things like getting rid of condition stack caps or adding more mechanics to enemies like boons, conditions, cooler special effects etc.
So, basically no one will use any of these items anymore. Waste of space. Can’t use em in WvW, can’t use them reliably in pve….which includes dungeons. Waste of space indeed.
Tick Tock, new game is on my clock. This game falls, when it drops…hickory kittenory dock.
For me probably.
…especially since I ALWAYS have an Ember out.
This is the best indication of why they needed a nerf.
Northern Shiverpeaks
Stop beating around the bush.
The items were op, and they were not meant to be spammed in combat like that.
The faster people admit it the faster you’ll move along.
Gee, all my high-level toons have a few powders and whistles. I only use them when the situation really calls for some extra help. I never realized that some folks spammed them until I started reading these posts. Looks like they were way overdue for a nerf; although I give a thumbs down for pretending that the primary reason for the extended cooldown was graphics-related.

Interesting that you actually quote me & misstate what I said at the same time.

I got zero problem with Anet saying so & making a change. Spouting bs to a paying customer is a different story. The faster they admit it the faster everybody will move along.

No.
I keep an ember out for RP reasons. I always have plenty of powders in my inventory so I can.
Some people play this game for other reasons than doing the most damage.
It’s likely this nerf isn’t about performance issues. That’s the excuse, but I would guess it has more to do with Anet’s epic world boss fights (Tequatl) being trivialized by the consumables.
But it isn’t trivialised. It still takes a co-ordinated group of around 80 ppl to kill him even with embers. The complaints about Teq are that it doesn’t scale down well and is too hard, well this makes it even harder.

Very true. What I meant was once everyone had consumables and used them at the right times etc., DPS pretty much became a non issue during burn phases. That’s compared to when we were trying to DPS without eles etc. where it seemed class/gear composition was much more important (bad for a zerg, open world fight).

Maybe one day they’ll realize that kind of thinking is antithetical to their supposed “play what/how you like” design philosophy and asking too much for content that is supposed to be done with a huge PUG blob.
If performance is the problem then they should stop designing all the content in the game to be done in mindless zergs. The 30m reuse makes these items useless. I would have rather they simply removed them from the game and refunded my gold/karma.

If people would stop kittening about every single good change they make because they had to nerf something in the process then I would expect ANet to treat us players with better respect.
The thing is you (and by you I mean a lot of people on the forums) as a paying customer (a kittenty one for that matter) for some reason expect to be able to trash talk the devs every time you (again, by you I mean a lot of players) don’t like something. Honestly if I were them I’d file out bans in bulks. Remember it’s a mmo and you are paying for their services, you don’t own anything in this game, and they can choose to terminate their services at any time.

I have never done “Teq”, PvP, WvW, or any Dungeon in this game.
I just like to meander through open-world-pve and level up my nine characters slowly.
I use the consumables to aid my solo play but only where they fit in with the character i am currently playing.
My elementalist specialises in fire magic summoning and i like to use both fire elementals all the time, having a third through the use of a consumable was like christmas for me ( i have a fire imp mini and they share the same animations, all 4 flying summoned fire creatures flapping flames around her).
Why is my casual play nerfed because of something happening somewhere else?
How is this a “good change” for me?
Although they say the reason is performance, which is true, the more likely reason is that they didn’t want to start balancing around using extra items.
Performance may not only mean client performance. All the extra objects in an already object heavy area could have caused problems on the server side. Unfortunately, this probably also means that they will never give minipets a QoL update for the same reason.
I think that whoever is in charge of these nerfs has no idea what they are doing.
Fire ele…. sure. I canunderstand a nerf… maybe one that was a bit more reasonable than 30 minutes…. but ok whatever.
Charrzooka now gets one shot?
The consumable was completely worthless as it was, since it gave you a slow autoattack that fired rockets which did less damage than your regular weapon did to begin with.
Now you get one rocket?
Haha this is great.
Whoever decided this needed to be “nerfed” obviously doesn’t even play the game.
Well, another solution would be to simply limit the total amount of (summoned) pets rendered by the client.
Or hey, why not use the already existing system with that slider for players/armor rendering, modify it and voilá, the gamer can adjust that by himself.
Because not everyone has those ‘performance issues’….
But I guess that would make too much sense, would it?
Better just slap a timer on it….easy…and cheap…and thats how we like it, don’t we? :-)
