Content
What do you consider to be a long time?
for atleast a 1 year plus
I’ve been playing nearly 2 years, and there is new content added often. But, your mileage may vary. You already have the game, you can play it until you no longer find it entertaining. =)
You’re going to get a lot of different answers to that, and I’d say that’s because it depends on what you like to do and how you like to do it.
I’ve been playing since launch, so almost 2 years. I play almost every day and haven’t taken any long breaks and I feel like there’s still a lot of stuff for me to do in this game. That’s because I want to do a bit of everything and I take my time doing it. My idea of exploring a map involves not only getting all the points required for official 100% completion but also finding any jumping puzzles and mini dungeons, talking to all the NPCs and generally exploring all the nooks and crannies and whatever I can find.
I also want to do all the paths on all the dungeons at least once each, max all the crafting professions, play through all the personal story missions and all the living story releases, make at least 1 legendary weapon….I do WvW and I’ve just started trying PvP as well but it’s hard to have goals for those modes because you can see everything fairly quickly but can’t ever really say you’ve completed it.
Other people played for a few weeks or months and then got bored because they had completed everything they were interested in and nothing else like it was expected.
But even if that happens the good thing about this game is that because it has no subscription and they’re not regularly releasing new equipment tiers or increasing the level cap there’s no harm in leaving for a while and coming back when something interests you or you feel like it’s worth giving it another go. You don’t have to pay for a month only to find you got bored again in a few hours and you won’t come back to find you’re way behind everyone else and unable to do any of the new content.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
No. I reckon you can burn through the content in 6 months max.
I have done over 1500 hrs and only just did the high lvl dungeon (Arah) for the first time last night. But it all depends on your playstyle and what parts of the game you are interested in.
Good time to buy today though while it’s half price.
thanks for the replies guys , i just purchased the game and i really didnt want it too be a let down seeing that i enjoyed guildwars 1 .
Depends. GW2 doesn’t have the same kind of endgame content as GW1 had for both PvE and PvP players. (god realms, AB, GvG)
But if you like fractals or WvW, I guess you’ll last longer. Good PvE (permanent) endgame content is lacking and could use a boost, nowadays it seems to be just living world updates which have been temporary.
Here’s a tip if you’re a GW1 player: don’t compare the games, since their approach is different. (and GW1 is still better.) Try to enjoy GW2 for what it is but don’t consider it as a direct continuation to GW1, but rather a game which does things differently and doesn’t directly build on GW1’s legacy.
I’d still recommend getting GW2, but just keep your expectations realistic.

Play it, enjoy it, and ignore all the bad comments on other websites. It’s a great game
Does gw2 have plenty content too keep me occuppied for a very long time ?
If you haven’t yet started, it will suffice for approx. 1 year of casual playing ( a couple of times a week for no more than 2 hours during those days ).
While it is impossible to define what “very long time” means with regards to your gaming habits, I’d be safe to say you’ll be fine for a years time. Then, you’ll start complaining like the majority of us until Season 2 begins and adds, hopefully, some quality, permanent stuff including new explorable zones/maps, skills, weapons, races and so on.
Enjoy the game!
The problem with this game until now is that there is a lack of additinal content since release. You can’t compare it to other MMOs. It’s mostly temporary and pretty shallow. But maybe that will change with the Season 2.
My experience was this: I 100% completed the world map in about 3 months. Til then I had about 3 or 4 calsses on max level and geared them pretty well. I made a legendary and a few months later I did all the Dungeons at least once (Dungeon Master Title).
There were no additional dungeons, there is no real gear treadmill, there are no raids. Just a mini dungeon series and one rather small map released (ironically, only a couple of months after release).
‘would of been’ —> wrong
so basically in the 2 years this game has bin out you guys havent gotten any type of new content ?

Someone should have told you, that GW2 is a complete different game compared to GW1 so if you are thinking GW2 is a GW1 with better graphic and more races then you are completly wrong,
I dont want to cause any flame, but I want you to know that if you play GW2 with the idea of having your good old GW1 just polished then you are chosing the wrong game, i play since beta GW2 and i have to admit the only thing that if you compare GW2 with GW1 only the name is kinda the same (and probably lore but who cares about lore)
But anyways good luck good loot
Edit: I have also to agree that there is a big lack of endgame content besides playing tradepost, also i stoped playing GW2 like 1-2 months ago since the lack of endgame content and the massive grind for certain things like legy or minipets etc.

As in expansion? then no. But the new Living Story Season 2 which starts tomorrow July 1 will be permanent content. Not sure what it will be, but am looking forward to it. I’ve close to 6k hours in game and still haven’t done everything there is to do. Like Danicat above, I enjoy the story like talking to the NPC’s, personal story missions, and have 2 AC paths to go before I get dungeon master. I’ve all professions to 80, and dupes in some. For me it’s about the journey, not the destination. Enjoy the ride,
One suggestion I have is to join a guild after a bit. It’s much more fun to run with others. Have fun!

No we’ve had content. A lot of it was temporary though and not everyone enjoyed that. The easiest way for you to decide whether you’ll enjoy the game is to log on and play. You’ve already bought it so you may as well.
Also on July the first Living Story season 2 begins which is going to introduce some permanent content in the form of the journal and possibly other things. As nothing has been really confirmed we can’t definitely tell you what will or will not be released.
P.S. – If you want to know about the updates we’ve had you can read about them here – https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/updates

I would phrase it like this: they haven’t gotten the content they liked/wanted.
They added many new content to the game. The quantity was a little bit small. But still it kept me happy. The main complaint is the temporary nature of main parts of season 1. Season 1 was primarily a process of learning, development and optimisation the delivery of content on a fortnightly cadence. In addition the major projects the devs worked on were not ready for release.
With season 2 they addressed the problem of temporary content. The story parts will be permanently available. In several weeks we will also know if the current season was one of the major projects they work in the background.

Haven’t seen that part of your comment.
I used to play Guild Wars 1, too.
If you have expectations set that high due to GW1’s quality, I’d say you’ll be moderately disappointed with GW2.
MMO games aren’t what they used to be back in the days of Lineage 2 and Guild Wars 1. They are dumbed down to appeal to the widest spectrum of players possible.
Still, I did like GW2 for that one year I mentioned, but don’t expect the quality and, above all, the complexity of the original Guild Wars game. MMO games aren’t like that nowadays.
Finally, I hope you’re going to enjoy your time with GW2!
