All your “expansion” content can be added through patches so there is no reason to give up from LS and go to standard static boring expansion world..

It can be added through patches but its not. Very little compared to every other MMO is being delivered. Very little is being delivered compared to the original Guild Wars in expansions or in normal updates. I have yet to see a Sorrow’s Furnace type update in GW2 that had a place to farm great weapons and with so many fun and different things to do. Kilroy Stonekin was epic at the time. This is what I expected from the Living Story and it has not delivered.

One percent? Lol. I feel you will be disappointed when an expansion the size of two full games does not appear.

Regardless, no date was stated, and that still puts it on the playerbase by choosing an arbitrary date of expiration. /shrug

A date doesn’t need to be given. They said xpac content would be delivered through the LS. While yes some content has come from the living story, overall the quality and the quantity have not come any where near what a true expansion would bring. Plus like I already mentioned most MMOs including the original Guild Wars had regular updates that gave more than the living story and even more than GW2 has delivered in total. Basically the living story is what every other game developer does but in a story format and excluding all the extra content that comes from true expansions.

There have been enough threads on this with people showing the full list of what has been done here and was has been done in other games, that even if it is above 1% its still pitifully low. Look at what the original Guild Wars released its first two years and you can even ignore the expansions to see how pitifully GW1 and GW2 compare. I would say its time for arenanet to quit talking and to start producing but we all know they stopped talking to us a long time ago.

A B2P model that is not being greedy only will need to release good expansion on a regular base.

I’m suggesting the time frame you present could be wholly manipulated by the scenario. As in, the only instances in which expansions and content were released on a generally acceptable schedule for a Buy-to-Play (or even a Free-to-Play) game were fragmented from the core game during development.

About this time last year, anet gave an interview where they said they had two big teams working.

One was the Living story team

The other turned out to be the Chinese release/feature pack.

I don’t think you should expect a proper expansion anytime soon, or ever unless the game does really well in China.

#24 leaderboard rank North America.

And thats great. But I rather had paid another €50 for an expansion or twice for a second expansion by now. This it not about expecting things for free.

Of course, but if you look at their dev speed, they couldn’t create expansions. I mean ,consider that they’d have brought out two expansions so far, package everything they’ve done so far, new skills, changes, story, events into two expansion packs. That’s what you’d get. That’s… tiny. And if you want to pay 50€ for such a pack, fair enough.
But to me that’d be the polar opposite of what GW2 was so far, a super-high-value experience. That price level would be more akin to horse armour DLC in Skyrim. :P

I think you underestimate the amount of work that go’s into these LS things. They might not add much from a content perspective but look for example to the Toxic Alliance LS. Kessex Hillls got edited what.. 4 times? There was an instance added that acted much like a dungeon. And during the LS we did see many small instances that all required a lot of work. All the voice overs that had to be done. It really was a lot of work. It just was not very efficient to deliver content.

Based on seeing how much work must have gone into to LS I am pretty sure that if in stead of the LS 90% of there attention would have gone into creating an expansion I am sure they could have released an expansion after a year or maybe 1,5 years for the first expansion (because the first half year they would also have to spend more time on fixing things and adding festivals and so on, but on average one a year).

Those expansions would then maybe be a little smaller then what we might know from a games like WoW but it would for sure have been possible to add much more then what we have so far and would be able to be much more in line with what people expected.

Oh, you clearly have NO idea.
Yes it’s alot of work, but they all are paid professionals good at what they do, and they have development tools to create such content.
You simply said that their employees are incompetent and slow at their work, which isn’t true. Please take it back…

The only ‘people’ who said to wait were the players themselves. ArenaNet has never given a timeline for when an ‘expansion’ would arrive. I fail to see where this “didn’t meet the expected timeline” comes from other than the people posting on the forums…especially the OP.

If there is evidence of ArenaNet stating there would be an ‘expansion’ within a certain time period (such as 2 years 25 days x amount of hours, or whatever), please do provide the link.

Arenanet said they would deliver xpac content through the living story. In over two years the living story has delivered about 1% what an xpac would deliver and about half as much as what other games deliver through normal updates. That is why people are saying time is up. They don’t have to give an exact deadline or an ETA. They said they would deliver through the LS and they did not.

1% of an expansion? Based on what Standard Model? There isn’t an industry standard. Anet can do whatever they want, when they want and that is what has made them great all these years. Giving into the demands of people who base their expectations of a product on what they have seen in other products isn’t healthy for a company that wants to stand apart from other companies.

SoS – Ele – Burn Me, Freeze Me, Blind Me, Pound Me — Wait…What?
Warrior – The New Burninator! Strongbad would be so proud!
Guardian – Burn for you, heal for me, block for me and uh…sorry Im all out of gifts.

I missed the first season of the LS and was totally gutted I did but was so stoked for the second. Then I played it….and it was done in a few hours. To compare it to an expansion, in relevance to GW1, is laughable. It’s heavily scripted, tightly restrictive and has so little content and reward as to be laughable, borderline insulting…and I have no qualms being called a casual player. How vets playing every day all day have kept entertained in this game borders on mystifying to me.

It’s the biggest f**k up in this game imho.

GW1 expansions were another whole new world to explore with new skills, classes, enemies. truck loads of gear…..it was hundreds of hours of content.

Now we get a backpiece and a few hours of gameplay every few months.

If your having adventurer problems I feel bad for you son, I dodged 99 arrows till my knee took one.

This game will never live as long as Guild Wars 1, which stands at 10 years and still running. All living world releases together aren’t even expansion-worthy by far in my eyes. Most added content is just small and meaningless with boring storytelling. This game needs an expansion with better storytelling and A LOT more new skills and some new professions, since everyone plays the same build, before it’s bleeding a silent death. If they will release something at about 5 years it will be too late. I won’t be playing it anymore alongside many others and then an expansion won’t bring me back.

Yeah, I’ve spend 2650 hours with this game, most of it went into farming fractal weapons (of which i still didn’t get the one i want) and farming laurels for ascended armor.
I’d say it worked out good for anet, but it’s time to give something back, guys.
I really don’t care if it is an expansion, just bring back some of the old GW so my nostalgia can die in peace. It still hurts to not have one of the other continents, no FoW, no UW, after two years no Ring of Fire or Crystal Desert. At least you are working towards maguuma wastes, i appreciate that!

Imagine our heroe travelling into new realms or fighting the fairytale creatures of elonia, strolling around in exotic and strange cities with fresh and fantastic culture. What has happened to your urge to invent new worlds, ANet?

Giving us the opportunity to explore more of the current map is cool, but if you open new maps at this speed it will take eons to complete it.

Put your hand on your heart, ANet – Tyria is worn out.
