So I just bought the supplies needed to craft 10 of these, and then got a surprise of a 1 day cooldown, nice! And even nicer that it doesn’t say that in the official Wiki!

Why though?
I understand cooldowns on some crafted items, but I really don’t get this one.
You offer players the ability to craft this mark once per day, while they can also PvP and get like 2 tokens a day.
If i PvP for 10 days, I’ll probably have all my tokens and saved some gold, if I’m gonna craft I’ll have to wait atleast 2 weeks something?

What’s the point of this, just something in the way so that people PvP more, or what?

And can you get these things in fractals as well? Because if you can only get them in PvP but you can craft the item with Fractal Relics, then it baffles me even more, it just doesn’t add up.
Because if it’s like this, I’m getting sympathy for players complaining about all the PvE’rs storming PvP. This is a bad way of trying to mix PvE and PvP content.

actually tossing them in the fractal dailies is a good idea cuz you need 3 and something else to get a gear box, which translates to higher drop rates and a more normal feeling about the pace you get them

Wait, what? I’ve definitely made 3-4 at a time before, both light and heavy armor, and huntsman. Are you talking about the 1-day cooldowns on the materials, like Lump of Mithrillium?

That is effectively the same unless you have a bunch of the gated stuff stockpiled.

There isn’t a cooldown on GM marks. There are cooldowns on the Ecto refinements. If you want to get around the ecto refinements, you can buy the materials produced using Ecto refinements (square of vabbian silk for example) from the TP.

FWIW you should be trying to get your 4 ecto refinements done every day. It’s decent money.

Yea I guess its just the materials, but if you want to craft the marks yourselves that doesn’t change the fact.

Why would I spend like 35-40 gold on every mark, I don’t see the point of this when you can also PvP for them.
Like I said it’s a bad way of mixing PvE and PvP stuff, its not good for anyone.

Not for PvPers that don’t like all the PvErs in Heart of the mists, and not for PvErs that need to PvP to get these materials faster without spending so much gold.

The point of Marks is to be a better deal than direct crafting from scratch – which they are. They take half as many other mats as their standard counterparts, for a total savings of about 20g per weapon/armor piece. That discount is the reward for playing a game mode a lot – which is checked for by the other requirements like fractal pages/relics. (Also the random free drops of course – Marks are just a guaranteed way to get the specific item you want.)

Some people missed it,

The ecto refinement was meant to gate the sale of stuff like del steel ingot and damask to help keep them marketable. To craft marks it takes the ecto refined items, not the sellable t7 stuff. The marks themselves are account bound.

I’m not an expert on the spvp/fractal merchants though so maybe it is different for us wvw people?

They should still be obtainable by doing fractals in some way, offering the option to buy the gears with Fractal Relics but no option to get the marks necessary for them (only by crafting and PvP) is not a well-thought-out decision.

Each Ascended Vendor (Fractals, PvP and WvW) requires;
X Marks, X Gold, X Related earnable currency, X Related tokens.

You can only craft the marks. You can’t earn them from anywhere. These vendors are to offer gear for a discounted price compared to crafting alone (in theory).
With that said. I don’t actually understand your issue. Since if you want Ascended, you have to craft the marks (or the gear itself) regardless. If you want the skins, just earn the tokens.

What do you mean you can’t earn them from anywhere, you can get them from PvP..
And that’s exactly my issue, why PvP but not fractals or WvW?

It doesn’t make sense to have a vendor in a very specific area/content part of the game, but you can only get 1 necessary component from somewhere else, or by crafting with cooldown.

Why else do you think so many people PvP now?

Odd change.
Anet added Marks because they wanted crafting to remain the main way to get Ascended. Now they add them to pip chests? That’s really bizarre!

No. These were not added to the WvW chests.
Not crying, just unbalanced reward mechanisms. The point of marks was to balance things out. The point of the vendors in Fractals/PvP/WvW was to balance acquisition.
Glad you can play in Exotic. Others like slots for infusions for Fractals/WvW.

future… its first wvwvw season they probably ad them and also rebalance the way you get pips there cause the system is strange atm if you get only on outnumered good rewards as a low lvl wvwvw player ..
and the point of marks was more
because they not whant pvp or fraktals to be the main way to get them
but then why no raid marks ?
if the main way they whant is crafting
the reason peopl like it in the very first season and now
is because its a non rng way to get and play for them
without crafting because some peopl simpl don t like that
like i don t like raids and never ever step one foot in there …
and i am probably not alon on that

Hmm, is there a point to crafting these things? They seem to require a ton of materials and it seems just as expensive as just crafting it.

Its less than crafting not by much. For weps i would craft normally. For armor it spreads the mats out further than just leather and cloth.

Re-review the mat requirements for both methods; it’s drastically different.

  • Traditional crafting requires a specific “activator” (e.g. Powerful Blood or <gasp> Maguuma Lily); the GM-Mark uses an identical blend of T6 mats.
  • Traditional crafting requires more T2-T4 cloth, leather, & armor.
  • Traditional requires T7/vision crystals; GM-mark does not.
  • Traditional requires learning new recipes for each stat combination; GM-mark requires the same recipes for all stats. (Traditional recipes include the recipe for the gear plus the insignia|inscription, which might also require learning an exotic equivalent.)

So as a rough rule of thumb, GM-Mark method drastically reduces the costs for several stat combinations, somewhat reduces the costs for a few others, and rarely is more expensive. It’s also requires less advance planning (in terms of recipes or MF-forge conversions).
