So before Shared Inventory slots came out I had 3 different Copper-Fed Salvage-o-Matic’s on 3 different characters because I played those 3 characters and they all needed that convenience. But now that the Shared Inventory slots have been out for a long time I have 2 of those Salvage-o-Matic’s just laying around in my bank doing nothing while there’s been real money spent on them.

Wouldn’t it be a great idea to somehow trade them back in for 200-400 gems so it can be used again for something different? Or is that an absolutely uncalled-for idea?

I’ve been sitting on 4 in my bank ever since it came out – The word at the time was unless you recently brought them, you have no luck of getting anything refunded etc.

I’d love to even get 200gems back for each.. they’d only go into blc anyway.

People who bought additional items right before shared slots arrived did get refunds. ANet generally did not offer refunds to those who took advantage of that additional convenience for months and months. According to ANet, they already got “fair use” out of the item.

I don’t think its “uncalled for” to ask to be able to trade them in. I think it would be nice if ANet offered a gift in exchange. But I don’t think they have to and, without knowing their financials, I am not sure that it’s a good precedent for them to set.

tl;dr contact support to see what they say; don’t be surprised if the answer is, “no, sorry, our hands are tied.”

I have 3 extra. Being that Arenanet has already received their money for these items, I’d like to log in some day and find the option to gift wrap them and send them to anyone who does not currently have one on their account. Or something along those lines.

Where are my gem sales? I want gem sales! Nerf EVERYTHING!

The concensus is, those who bought it recently can arguably have been duped. But those who bought it a long time ago had their share of fun with it.

Think of it as.. Before the multiboxes people had unbreakable tools. Multiples. And they enjoyed the fact they could harvest mine and log for years without ever buying or worryingabout the tools. Now that the multiboxes are a thing, they can easily move the tools between chars. But they won’t get refunded because they actively used the tools and had their money’s worth out of them.

But I don;t disagree, though, it’s not fun to have useless duplicates. Thats why I once suggested a gifting of already bought gem store items. To be able to give my second items to a friend who didnt have the money for them. My suggestion was: when you destroy a BLC item, that item in the shop gets a charge so you can gift it to someone else.

I sent in a ticket about this very thing with the salvage o matics less than 24 hours ago. We’ll see what happens but I agree that I should be able to have a credit if I want to “tradeback” the item in question to gift it or use the gems on something else that has more use.

It was seriously shady what they did with them, the you’ve used it for a few months therefore tuff luck, yet at the same time if you had known the account bound slots ( which people asked for long before the salvage kit was released ) you wouldn’t have bought more than one, im just waiting for the salvage tool update so that 1 set will cover all toons on the account, and then get hit with the well you owned them for x time so tuff luck.

I have 5 of these Copper Fed kits that are useless now, I didn’t buy anything like that from the TP again, lesson learnt right there,

They could have easily put an NPC into the game that gave back 50-75% of the gem cost, or allowed you to swap it out with an item from the TP that was of equal value, but they went with the tuff luck direction instead.

I would love a way to gift this item. It would be great as a guild giveaway.

That’s not the consensus.

A lot of folks feel that no one got duped — ANet did provide a lot of refunds; they just didn’t do it for everyone who had an extra, using the same logic that lots of other businesses do: people received reasonable value for their item(s), even though a newer item has made it obsolete.

Again, it’s reasonable for people to ask for a refund. But it’s equally reasonable for ANet to deny requests, too. It’s a difference of opinion about what constitutes “reasonable value.”

And lose a perfectly fine money magnet? Not gonna happen.

I agree a small refund of 200-400 gems would be completely reasonable. Another option would be to remove the account-bound status (and still keep it untradeable) so that it can be given to someone else.
