Could Custom Weapon Skins be a thing?
isnt WoW doing this in its new expansion?
if so, likely Anet will avoid that feature.
Just throwing this out there for a suggestion, but I think it would be beyond awesome to have something set up for a player to be able to design their own weapon skin. The skin would be account bound, and only usable by that one player. It seems like a lot of work, but it would be great. If it wasn’t possible, a doable concession would be designs submitted by players…..and more scythe skins.
“Workshop” system would be nice. It will be a huge pain in the kitten to set it all up though. I doubt it will ever happen in gw2.
I’m not sure about what wow is doing anymore; if it’s true I hope it doesn’t stop Arena-net from going with a good idea. I just think it would be boss to be able to make a hammer that looks like a mounted wheel of cheese so I can run around shouting “The cheese stands alone!”
I would totally design a weapon skin that looks like it’s pixelated to censor something.
If it’s a mix and match system (pick a blade, pick a crossguard, pick a grip, and pick a pommel), then the designs we’d have access to would be limited. We wouldn’t be able to customize weapons that have a “flowing” design (like the tempest skins).
If it’s an actual, Second Life-style of “submit your own 3D art assets” then that would be horrible for load times and quality as well (unless you really want to see someone prancing about with a literal phallic symbol).
I can’t see them putting in the time and effort to make a system where one person gets to use a skin of his own design. That’s nowhere near cost effective. At best, maybe an open thread where they encourage designs to be submitted, with the understanding that if accepted to be put in the game, there will be no compensation and the skin will be for everyone.
ANet may give it to you.
I agree. It wouldn’t be cost effective for ArenaNet to do something like this. However, as Just a flesh wound suggested, I think it could be alright if they opened a thread where people could submit designs and then they had a chance of being put into the game and acquirable through certain means (such as a Mystic Forge recipe, or normal crafting).
I think it would be cool if they took player designs. Maybe they could use a name from the player who submitted it for the weapon name.
The Flaming Greatsword of Just A Flesh Wound. I would buy that one.

Wasn’t there contests for GW1 for designing weapons that got put into the game? I’d love to see that return
hmmm but but
do you know what will happen if anet made this thing?
gemstore will be obsolete . Then no money making off gemstore for anet cuz people will make their awesome design..
I don’t see it happening ever..

Yah. Apparently they had a number of them over the years.
I think these were a couple of contenders. I could see these as staff and sceptor.

Several of the weapons in GW1 were based off player designs. I would love to see ANet bring back a contest (winners get a special mini or glider or something).
If we got anything back from gw1 it might be weapon dyeing, but don’t hold your breath.
