So who was the “smart” dev mind who decided they should be level 78 so none of the level 80 upgrades would work on them? Seriously, this idea is so beyond illogical it makes my head hurt.

The stats are still better than a level 80 exotic when you add an embellished jewel to it, aren’t they?

There were already quite a few level 80 backpieces when they introduced these newer ones. These are meant to be a good back option for characters below level 80.

And, for the record, the level 78 with the highest appropriate level jewel upgrade is better stats than your typical level 80 exotic back item.

Nope, don’t do it. Last time I checked:

The crafted level 78s, when upgraded are VERY close to ascended stats.

Exotic level 80 back items actually have lesser stats, even with level 80 upgrades.

If the crafted level 78s could receive level 80 upgrades, they would probably exceed ascended stats.

It’s weird, I know.

just craft the lvl 78 backpiece

like the others already said it has better stats even with only lvl 65 rare jewel added

and it is super cheap

They even have a slot for offensive infusions.. I my opinion these backpacks are a very good deal.
