Does anyone know what the crafting materials will be like in HoT?

I am trying to farm Ancient wood and Orichalcum Ore for my huntsman and its taking an age to get even enough to craft one item. What I am wondering is does anyone know if there will be more nodes added in the new zones, in effect making it easier, or is it still going to be an endless grind to make one item?

I didn’t get chance to play beta because of other commitments on weekends so I couldn’t check for myself.

there will be ori and ancient nodes in maguuma and i think you can also get both from lvl 80 map reward tracks

the other thing you can do is take the extra Mithril and Elder wood and promote them in the Mystic Forge.

At current prices, you make a couple of gold LOSS per promotion to ori/ancient, so rather sell t5 and buy t6.

loss from promoting extra mats you have laying around? I find that hard to believe.

If you buy the mithril and then try to promote it, you will lose money for sure.

Promoting from Mithril to Orichalcum Ore:
250 Mithril Ore (assuming you already have this) {N/A}
1 Orichalcum Ore (buy on TP for 3s38c/each) {3s38c}
5 Pile of Crystalline Dust (buy on TP for 21s/each) { 1g5s }
5 Philosopher’s Stone (0.5 Spirit Shards) {N/A}

For a little over 1 gold (1g8s38c), you get 10-40 Orichalcum Ore, which, if you had to buy it, would cost between 33s80c and 1g35s20c. To break even, you would need to get ~32 ore back from the promotion.

If you just sold the Mithril, you’d make ~1g30s after the TP fee. (1.525g*.85) That’s just shy of buying 40 Ori, and you don’t need to gamble.

I got prices from GW2Spidy, but they’re subject to all sorts of variation throughout the day, so these are a guideline, not firm numbers.

tl;dr
Mithril is worth more than you think in bulk, while Crystalline Dust is expensive.

Right, and I know I usually have 1 Orichalcum ore, and 5 Dust.

I’m not going to argue the math. You are completely right, if you buy the parts besides the Philosopher’s stones you might break even.

I do this on a regular basis, but I use materials that I already have on hand.

If you sold the 5 Crystalline Dust, that’s 0g90s profit right there, after the TP fee. Add1g30s from selling 250 Mithril, and that’s 2g20s profit.

That’s ~65 orichalcum ore, more than you can get by promoting.

I’ve never done the math before, but promotion looks expensive, even if you already have the materials. o_o

thanks for the advice, every time I try using the forge I end up being worse off, the problem is at the moment the orichalcum ore is so expensive, neither option are a win win for my wallet.

If I don’t grind I lose money, even selling the exotics which I can make from it I don’t break even on what I end up spending.

Just hoping that there will be more nodes than there is now, because getting my huntsman to 500 is taking so long and costing even more

If you farm anyway, try farming rich iron and platinum nodes. Much quicker, you can park alts at the permanent ones, and the end result is the same as farming T5 and buying T6. It just takes less time. Platinum ore gets you more than 2s/piece at the moment, and WPing to two rich nodes is A LOT faster than crossing the entirety of Cursed Shore to find three normal orichalcum nodes there.

That’s less profitable than actually selling the mats and buying the ori or ancient though.

For those intersted in promotion calculations and how to best use your spirit shards, this is the tool that i find most efficient. Make sure to check the filters to find what you want.
