Guild Wars 2

Today I was like going to craft hilt for my ascended sword. I typed “sword” in search field and selected first field which had (1) in itself – letting me know I can craft it. There where 2 fields, so I assumed one is for hilt and one is for blade. I clicked on “Hilt” one and pressed “Craft”.

What I got was GREATsword hilt, not SWORD hilt. kitten? REALLY?

I ended up wasting 30 GOLD on this crap. WHY just WHY does GREATSWORD hilt show up when you type SWORD only?

This made me so sick and tired of this game…

First, contact support. If you phrase your request graciously, they can sometimes help you out with exactly these sort of mistakes.

Second, I realize you are upset. But why wouldn’t “great*sword*” show up when you type “sword”? Are you really suggesting it’s better for the entire community to type the full name of the weapon type before it displays under the filter? Simple, predictable filters are easier to use (and engineer) than those with complex rules to fit special cases.

This is basic search filter behavior, to be honest. You checked well enough to choose “hilt” instead of “blade”, so you know your search query would yield multiple results. If this makes you sick and tired of this game, you’ll probably get sick and tired of anything that has a search filter option.
Also, if you only had 2 results, “sword” wasn’t the only thing you typed in the search field. Just “sword” will yield a lot more results. Don’t assume things. Just read what you’re actually crafting. The whole name, not just part of it.

I thought this was going to be an oiled versus plain mixup… but OP you need to pay more attention in future. If you’ve crafted up to 500 for ascended level, you would know that swords both small and great require the same quantity of materials. This is 100% PEBKAC but if you are nice, support may be able to help revert it for you.

I don’t think there are enough colors in the game, but it would be nice if it was easier to distinguish.

Anyhow: good luck with your request. (And FYI the wait times might be as long as five days: they seem to be still in backlog hell from the rollback and the anniversary sales.)

How would the colors help if you aren’t reading them?

The game also provides a way to avoid crafting the wrong components provided you also selected the correct item to craft …
