Hi everyone,

I was wondering if someone could tell me if critical chances are rounded up or down, or to a certain decimal point. The build calculator I use shows my critical chance to the hundredths, and it made me wonder if ANet does this too. I know in the hero panel it doesn’t show any decimal places, but I wanted to ask; do they, or do they not?

Thanks

From the wiki, the formula for critical chance is given as:

Critical Chance = round down((precision – 822) / 21)

In practice, I have found this to be true; my critical chance has always been rounded down to the nearest whole number.

the window says that, but has anyone confirmed this in practice?
I guess you’d have to only have like 10 precision to get a 0.476% chance, then see if you ever get a critical hit.

Problem is you start out with 916 precision and 4% crit rate.

If you throw out the assumption that the game calculates with integers, you also have to throw out the assumption that we’re talking 4.00% and not, for example, 4.37%. In which case the first step would be to verify the base rate.

But honestly, whether it rounds down or not isn’t really going to change the game. Not only that, but it’s also pretty much impossible to definitively proof without a developer stating it or someone hacking the game files.

However, it was confirmed that the character menu uses rounded integers rather than exact decimals on the display. I would think that’s good enough. After all, if they did not round them, why bother displaying rounded numbers?
