Hi there,

I know most probably this was already discussed on forums but i might missed it, or cant find it, so why not…

I always thought GW1 was a special, unique game with awesome build diversity. I loved the cross profession availability that gave you the chance to get the best out your toon. You had the chance to actually create a new build on your own, not like in GW2 where there are more or less 2-3 standard / efficient build per profession. Of course there are some trait differences but more or less they are pretty much the same as the base build. These builds only changes if theres a big nerf or buff for a profession.

That close our creativity into a cage and that makes us to use the standard if we want to be succesful. I remeber how much i loved playing in GW1 and spent hours to create a new build counting. I think cross profession skills should be added into the game.

I am thinking about the utilities mostly but if you have a suggestion to weapon skills too, just share it here. At first i would think about the 3 utility skill (healing skill and elites are excluded in first round). Of course revising first the utility skills and making few of them profession bound is essential.

Also adding few new elites AND making few elites (for example Battle Standard, Spirit of Nature, Dagger Storm, Lich Form) profession bound would solve the OP profession + elite combo.

Of course this would need a tons of work and even more balancing but i do think it would be a good addition into the game and could give us more option to personalize our build.

What do you think?

Here is my take on the “build diversity” of GW1 in PvE.

90% of the player base ran 1 of 4 team builds (Discordway, Sabway, Mesway, or Spirit way).

With 3 of those 4, half the player’s bar was taken up by Assassin’s Promise, “You Move Like a Dwarf”, and one other PvE only skill (Pain Inverter, Save Yourselves, Ebon Vanguard Assassin, etc.).

The rest of your bar complemented these skills or made sure that you had the energy to use them…This was the summation of Hard Mode Vanquishing and Missions.

For elite zones (UW, FoW, DoA) there were about 10 skills that were necessary…that’s it.

Don’t believe me? Out of the 1300+ GW1 skills, I’m gonna remove 10:

1. Shadow Form
2. Protective Spirit
3. Sliver Armor
4. Shield of Judgement
5. Spell Breaker
6. Spiteful Spirit
7. Signet of Spirits
8. Panic
9. Assassin’s Promise
10. Splinter Weapon

There goes PvE….

Here’s what people thought of GW1 when it first came out: http://tinyurl.com/bntcvyc

These are the only two states you’ll find the world of Tyria.”

Yes this might be true for PvE in Gw1 but before PvE only skills were introduced this picture was a little bit more wider even in Pve. Though Gw1 was not just PvE. It had an awesome PvP as well.

But my suggestion was about Gw2 and the cross profession utilities and not about GW1 PvE content….

People used all the same builds in PvP too, if they wanted to get somewhere.
Sure there were some diversity in GW1, but hardly any used it and those that did and wanted to play with others, would often be asked to change to meta builds.

I liked dual professions in GW1 and in my solo play with heroes at least my own toon had my own build, even is heroes were sabway. But I don’t think dual profession would work here in GW2. I am afraid this is one of those things that GW2 is not the same kinda game that GW1 was and you/we need to deal with that.

Whenever I see a thread like this, I feel the deep urge in me just to say something like

“Please go back to GW1”

However, the constructive and nice part in me just says:

Theres a better System that could be used instead of Cross Class utilities to improve the overall game and and its combat system.

A Class Synergy System (CSS) would be imo exactly something, that could massively improve the game and give us all a glimpse of the feeling of Cross Class Effects, just without turning GW2 into a nonsensical GW1 Clone with just better graphics.

If we could connect our “Souls” of characters together with the Souls of an other Character to perform a “Soul Link” to synergize us with that other character, we could receive that way new temporary Skills and Class Mechanics that could improve our Characters as long as we keep up the Soul Link with that other Character.

Example:

A Thief performs a Soul Link together with a Mesmer.
Both characters will profitate from that Soul Link.

The Thief will be able now to create Shadow Clones" when he dodges or when he uses a Skill that sets him into Stealth.

The Mesmer instead becomes able to perform Fast Casting", getting a chance to receive Quickness, when using Utility Skills.

Just simple examples, but it simply shows a good mechanic, how our characters couould profitate from other players in their Groups, that way Group Play would become also more interesting and fun.

Personally I like the idea behind sub classes ~ quoted from Chris Whiteside
