According to the Dulfy guide, if you have the cultivated seed and the mysterious vine, you have to first craft the cultivated vine backpiece before crafting the ascended Mawdey backpiece. But if you received the pet seed during the August 12 patch, you can skip the cultivated backpiece and go straight for ascended. Is this intentional? Because crafting both the new exotic and ascended backpieces cost twice as much materials as crafting the ascended backpiece alone, which is absurd if all I wanted was the Mawdey backpiece.

Would be great if a dev can clarify this issue.

Unless something has changed you can not craft the ascended backpack without first crafting the exotic. It won’t let you interact with the necessary scavenger hunt elements until you have unlocked the exotic cultivated backpack.

Edit- this is the only Dev reply I’ve seen regarding anything about the back piece.
