So I made a Sylvari wanting to look cool on a leaf armor style.
I went to the cultural armor shop to see the models and pricing.

Tier 1 – 2 Gold 88 Silver
Tier 2 – 7 Gold 10 Silver
Tier 3 – 119 Gold

So, I realized that the Tier 1 armor costs a lot for a level 35 character, but you can manage to get it.
The Tier 2 you may find yourselv wearing after a few levels away from it and transmuting, well, that’s ok to look cool!
So… why the Tier 3 costs that much? The prices progressions doesn’t make sense, it would if it costed like 20 – 30 Gold tops…

Cultural armor is mainly for cosmetics cause it’s yellow… Why so high on prices?

the high price serves to make that armor more desirable. nobody right now has a full set of t3, unless they are that crazy.

as they are cosmetic only, i think it’s fair. players can easily get the stats they need, but if they want to look “super cool”, then they’ll have to work for it. i think it’s a good system.

I do think people has to work for it, 30 gold is a reasonable “work for it”, 120 gold is just insane for casual gamers.

t3 armor would be a lot less cool if 30g was the buyout price. i, for one, can afford that right now. i am in no way cool enough, so i hope they keep the high price.

do you really want tons of people running around with t3 armor? i don’t.

I desired the t3 armor because it’s one of the few armors in the game that looks good on my character.

It’s a shame they don’t have more of them. Maybe then they wouldn’t have priced it so high to compensate for the lack of aesthetic choice in the game. Everyone I see wears the same three or four armor sets for their armor weight type. It’s pathetic.

that price is insane given how slow gold income is unless you metagame and play the TP…which you cant expect “normal” players to do.

It’s most likely NOT thought for casual and “normal” players.

Why should everything be attainable after a few weeks?

T3 Cultural is like FoW from Guild Wars 1. (its actually cheaper than FoW ) Its ment to be super expensive as a show piece so players can show off wealth .

It’s not necessarily cultural armor is expensive, it’s that all armor other than crafted stuff is expensive.

But cultural armor is supposed to be top tier in terms of looks, thus requires the most economic resources to get.

It’s prestige, it’s something to work a long time for. If you put your mind on it, you will eventually get it. I’m aiming for the human cultural tier 3 heavy armour myself. I don’t even got a piece yet, I just got 11 gold.

I want the chest piece first, and I will farm, and spare gold as much as possible to get it.

There’s nothing ‘’harsh on the casual’’ here, this armour are for the people who are really, really dedicated to the game and would love to show it.

Casuals can get this, casual doesn’t mean you are bad at gaming, casual means you don’t spend as much time as others since you got work, kids, and whatnot to take care of.

You might be the best Guild Wars 2 player in the world, but you’re casual, because you got important matters to take care of, but if you’re a casual and desire this armour, there’s nothing stopping you. It sure will take time, but you will get it if you aim for it.

Have patience.

It’s a long term goal prestige skin and most people who buy are going to be buying it because it looks special and different. If everyone has it after a few weeks then it loses it’s entire purpose.

I would have to agree. Besides, culture armor sets are a lot less like the dungeon armor sets. You have multiple paths to obtain it, as “mostly” everything you do in game can get you closer to being able to purchase that armor set.

The worst thing about the armor is that it’s only RARE. If we’re going to shell out that crazy amount of gold, it should be Exotic at LEAST.

It’s used for look anyway so it really doesn’t matter.
You cannot even chose stats of it so even if it was exotic, there would be good chance that it wouldn’t be the stats you want.

Well you can transmute it.

I think that all of these prestige skins (cultural, dungeon and even the karma sets) should be done like the Hall Of Monuments armour really. The HoM armour skin can be generated by an NPC as many times as you like so that you can change stats without losing your look. I think that the cost of the armour should unlock it for that character (and obviously you shouldn’t be able to vendor or salvage it).

If I buy the T3, sure I can transmute it onto my good set that I wear for dungeon runs. But what if I want to keep that look while I do events wearing magic find gear? I think the cost is fine as it is and I don’t want that lowered, but it’s a bit much to have to buy it twice for the same character.

One of the great things about GW1 was that you could have a whole bank full of awesome prestige armour and wear whatever you felt like, whenever you felt like it.

Actually something most people don’t understand about the culture armor is that wearing all 6 pieces gives you a bonus to power, vitality, and condition damage. Also note that this is a set bonus, not a bonus that comes from runes so you can actually buy the superior runes from the dungeon vendors to stack the rune bonus plus the set bonus from the culture armor. Also note that right now culture armor seems to be the only armor that gives a set bonus like that.

EDIT: I was looking back at the culture armor on the wiki and different culture armor gives different stat bonus. For example silvari give condition damage, toughness, and precision

Yeah, these “bonuses” are the actual stats on the armor itself. Giving the armor bonus stats for wearing all 6 pieces doesn’t make sense, since then players that have the armor set would get an unfair advantage.

Cultural armor for what it is is still over priced even if have extra cos you got the full set for the price should be inline with dungeon and ratings and runed it’s that simple.

If i was to say pay for gems from gem store using card/paypal to trade for gold from anet would cost $500+ real cash witch i could do but cannot justify the cost i would rather spend that on my kid, wife or boat (not in that order lol )

It did not take that long to get some of the special armors in gw1.

The Orders lvl 80 armors are much cheaper, the cultural t3 should be maybe 2-3x the cost of those imo. 30-40g for a set seems reasonable and more obtainable, yet not soemthing that can be obtained in a a month for a good majority of the playerbase.

All anet is doing here is keeping the bot farms alive imo. People will go the cheap route and hope they dont; get busted. Yes you can buy gems, but who is going to pay that much real money for gold?

Long term goals are good, but it has to be realistc for the majority of the playerbase. Seeing the light at the end of the tunnel makes the trip not seem so bad.

Firstly, how long does it take to fix this bloody forum? MAKE THE QUOTE BUTTON DISPLAY ALL THE TIME!

Secondly, it’s no more of an unfair advantage than exotic having better stats than rare.

:edit:

After posting the quote buttons appeared, so proper quote added.

While I don’t mind the idea of there being a few ridiculously expensive sets that are meant to be prestige items, I do mind having those sets be cultural gear.

Why? Well, by making the Tier 3 cultural gear prohibitively expensive for most players, they are essentially reducing the number of cultural gear sets that are available for those that don’t want to grind a lot, aren’t good at “playing the market”, and what have you. This might not be a big deal for some races, but with races like Sylvari where they have very distinctive racial attire, this is very disappointing.

If they want to have one of the cultural sets be super expensive level 80 gear, IMHO they should give each race an additional cultural armor “tier” that is inexpensive and low level as well. And by inexpensive and low level, I’m talking something for your level 15 characters, not mid level sets that costs 2+ gold.

Just my 2 copper.
