Cultural Capes Armor Fix?
Inb4nocapes b/c too many clipping issues regardless.
But on a serious note, the game released a little over 4 years ago and having the system/resources to make the base game as is – you’d think capes wouldn’t be a problem.
It’s already a given that some armor styles will look odd on some races, like hoods on charr and asura with their head sizes, but still they have hoods. I’ve even mentioned before that some sets that are supposed to look uniform actually clip with itself.
So there should be zero excuse or reason aside from resource distribution, why having capes in-game would add on to existing problems.
TLDR: There’s armor peices that already looks weird on some races, some matching armor sets that still clip. And after 4 years of the game being out with 1 expansion, how are capes still not viable? And of course you can’t please everyone, some will use capes, some people won’t.
That’s why I suggest making capes cultural, specifically crafted for only 1 race to use that type of cloak/cape. Honestly, it’s just designing 5 different cultural themed capes. Shouldn’t have too much issue, even a little clipping is to be expected, but it’s a video game.
Would be cool, especially if there was a Guild logo cape like in GW1.
That would hit old players in the nostalgic stomach a bit.
Having no capes is not an oversight, it’s intentional design. Unless they plan to do it as a guild feature at some unspecified point.
Sonya for females. (necro,rev,ranger,mes,engi)
All classes lvl 80.
You know those big poofy skirts (or “butt capes”) on a lot of the armour that pretty much just stays in place no matter what you do? And the weird ribbons and flaps that stick out to the sides and stay rigidly in that positon at all times?
That is the cloth physics that would be used to create your cape. It would essentially be a sheet of card stuck to the back of your character, it might swing slightly from side to side but otherwise it’d stay exactly where they put it at all times, clipping through any two handed weapons, shoulders or any bit of your armour that pokes out behind.
I strongly suspect that if they ever did add capes a lot of the players who keep on (and on) requesting it would be extremely disappointed and rarely, if ever, use it.

If the buttcape syndrome still persists til this day, I dont think a little cape clipping issue is gonna be much further degradation to the game.
Although, on a more serious note, I dont think GW2 engine has proper collision detection teq to begin with. I feel like clothe clipping will stay no matter what, unless engine overhaul or GW3 all together.
