I’d like to see new 10 new Tyria masteries for the 10 possible pairs of the races (Assura/Norn, Human/Sylvari, ect.). Each of these legacies would only be visible/available to players who have a level 80 character of both races in the pair.

The first tier would let you choose the other race’s racial skills on your characters. Which are all terrible so there’s not much chance of unbalancing anything .

The second tier would allow your characters from these two races to wear the cultural armor of the other race (don’t panic, we know everyone can wear each other’s gear from the gem store armor mix up and Tixx wears human cultural armor all the time).

I’m really not excited about the new armor from HoT, but being able to mix-and-match more of the armor already in the game would be a huge treat!

This would be fantastic (assuming that we can in fact wear all of the Cultural armor). I especially like the concept of a Sylvari that’s taken to living with Humans or Asura and wearing their cultural clothing. Or a Human in Norn garb RPing as a diminutive Norn. (Not that we’re incapable of doing either of these and more already, but it would be a nice addition!)

One question might be: Would you be required to maintain a level 80 character of both races? Or might the mastery be unlocked upon having a level 80 of a specific race, regardless of whether you keep them or not?

I frankly don’t see the point to all of this. Hell, rev’s don’t even get to use racial skills, so they get left out. Also, the different races don’t have models for cultural armor skins of differing races, which the exception of the t3 human you mentioned. Adding (over forty!) skins into the models would take a significant amount of Dev time that could go to something better.

I say leave the current cultural armours as they are. However, using a cultural mastery for new skins would get my vote. I’m always for new things, not so much for them fiddling with old things.

Cultural armor should stay the way it is, but a reduction on the cost of cultural weapons would be a nice incentive for such a track since karma has been gutted since release and those weapons are still 63k karma a pop.

5-8 complete new skins is a lot of work compared to opening up assets already built and in game.

What I’m asking for is a lot of payoff for very little coding time.

Let them work since that’s what they get paid for.

I like the idea of inter-racial masteries.

However, I don’t think either of your ideas is going to fly:

  • Requiring players to have toons of various races for masteries runs counter to most of the game’s design.
  • There are few enough mechanical differences that removing the flavor skills from the uniqueness of a race seems like undermining the existing lore and game (even though your proposal has a neat explanation about it). Sure, the skills are lackluster, but that’s to make sure that professions won’t be unbalanced by racial skills.
  • Then there’s the matter of armor. I get that everyone wants more skins. The problem is: that’s not cheap. It takes coding time, artist time, and a lot of QA …and that’s just to have the skins, never mind to make them look good. I’d love to have the electro armor on a norn, where I could really see it…but then it wouldn’t be cultural armor; it would be just armor.

tl;dr love the idea; the specific details…not as much.
