Stupid 45 character limit wouldn’t let me put their full names in the topic title

This is just my own personal curiosity, but why is the Crest of the Assassin and the Gold Doubloon priced so much higher than other crests and doubloons? I get that they can be combined into amalgamated gemstones, but so can the others as well. Is there another reason why those two particular items are priced that high?

The demand for amalgamated gemstones is very high, driving the prices of the items that make them up due to increased demand for them as well. As well as other items that are made by using them and how rarely they drop.

The crest is likely a supply issue – I don’t even recall one dropping for me in a very, very long time

Of the four doubloons, gold is the cheapest. The price for the others is set by demand through recipes that use them or for gear upgrades.

I think Crest of the Assassin is because of the low drop rate. I’m not entirely sure and just basing that off of a thread from a few years ago.

I understand the demand, but what I don’t understand is that at least from the wiki I can combine any other crest (for example magi) and get an amalgamated gemstone using it. It sells for a few silver and the assassin sells for 3 gold. The silver doubloon does the same, versus other doubloons. So is there some other difference I don’t know about?

In my 4+ years of play, I’ve only acquired 1 Crest of the Assassin, whereas I have at least 100 of each of the others. I’d guess that’s why it’s deemed more valuable.

I’m pretty sure Silver Doubloons are much more valuable than Gold Doubloons.

Silver Doubloons are used in the crafting of the Legendary, Juggernaut.

Crest of the Assassin is both extremely rare and the most useful of all the crests.

It might just be one of those things I don’t have to understand I guess. I just thought perhaps you got more amalgamated gemstones, or bonus stuff using that particular crest or doubloon. Thank you all for your responses.

Some people use crests in their gear and Assasin is more useful than the other stats as already stated. So on top of the amalgamated gemstone demand that makes sure it does not drop below a certain value there is additional demand for it outside of that.

The amalgamated gemstones set a minimum but with those price it is pretty much irrelevant for Crest of the Assassin.

As for gold doubloons … did you mix things up? There are four doubloons and gold is the second cheapest.

Yeah I did, it is actually the silver one that seems out of line with the others, my bad.

Silver is pretty rare (only drops for low level characters or is contained in a handful of material bags) and is used to craft a Legendary weapon meaning it has demand for a high volume of them.

Silver used to be quite a bit higher.

The Assassin Crest only drops from a single source. Unlike the others, it won’t drop from JP or other open world chests nor from the Mystic Forge. Thus the supply never meets the demand.

Don’t know why people would use an Assassin crest for stats when an Opal Orb does the same job.

What’s more, if the crest was going to be used in trinkets then it’s worse than the orb. Orbs can be upgraded to an Exquisite version for even more stat points (but note: you can’t slot exquisite opals into armour).

To be unique? Its probably the same reason that so many relatively useless items sell for 6+ gold on the TP (like rare backpack straps…..)
