Current Gripes and Ideas on how to fix them
I agree but there needs to be a couple of checks…
Firstly, (and I know this is not the case with the Mad King), if you have lots of people tackling a boss then there is no real skill involved – so to expect a high end item is not reasonable. Perhaps a system can be made whereby the number of people taking part equates to the quality of end item.
Secondly, there are times when the number of people taking part is just detrimental. I have complained elsewhere about this. There perhaps needs to be some sort of cap on the number of people allowed to participate… I would hesitate to say just lower the number of people allowed to enter the map…. but they would need to deal with the bots first (thanks moderator… but I thought my idea was novel).
Thirdly, something needs to be done about taggers and late comers. There is nothing worse than soloing a veteran or champion and spending a good bit of time wearing it down and killing all the respawns, only for some asuran imp (it nearly always seems to be asurans) to appear from nowhere and join in the very last bit of finishing the kill to then get the drop reward instead of yourself.

But I might take the prize for worst Mad King Chest Loot ever. 50 Candy Corn, 2 Loot Bags, and a Unidentified Dye. Candy Corn?
Pretty sure the 50 candy corn is a static drop from the chest. But I still can top that.
50 CC, 2 white loot bags, and a ToT bag (with 2 CC in it).
I pretty much stopped farming him after that…
Wow Targren – that is indeed worse. At least my dye can be transformed with 3 other useless dyes. Glad (?) to know others are sharing my pain.
@Nymph – I like idea 1 in theory. Not sure how to implement it with my work addled brain. One of the big things I like in GW2 is that I can tag along with a bunch of folks and do content that other games would require me being in a competent guild to do. Dont want to infringe on that at all. Idea 2 seems to me more a general problem that comes with any non instanced event in any game. As for your third point – I was not aware that a second person, no matter how insignificant currently affects your drop quality. If it does, than I would suggest they change it. I dont care if someone tags a guy as I am killing him and gets bonus as long as my drop is unaffected…
Anyone have thoughts on the Guardian issue? I really feel that the class is underpowered comparitively.
There’s no reason to kill Mad King multiple times. There’s honestly no reason to farm anything. You’re going to get bad drops, with an occasional once a month/week depending on your playtime “omg” drop, no matter where you go, no matter what you do. No reason to kill high level mobs… just farm trash. I’m starting to think the bots have the right idea.
I’ve got nothing but garbage loot out of the MK chest (15 runs).
Personally I find it rather ridiculous that champions and veterans drop just junk loot all the time, to the point where it’s more lucrative to simply tag the vet/champ for xp/event credit and then go kill normal mobs, because they drop better loot.
I consistently get whites, loot bags, junk trophies and the (very) occasional blue item off of champion mobs that take 10 minutes to kill. It sucks, it’s not fun or interesting and it’s really lame.

I pretty much only play Guardian and don’t find it underpowered at all. I typically us GS and Scepter + Torch and do just as well as most people around me. I do run an ele and don’t mind the DPS output over the guardian, but she’s squishy and falls over a lot. Their are definitely higher DPS classes, but they really aren’t nearly as survivable.
This is something they carried over from GW1 to GW2, loot isn’t a point of concern to the player. That is why some people loved GW1 and why some people left and disliked GW1. A lot of people in general even if they complain against it sometimes, like to be rewarded at the end of doing X and it must be worth the time. Almost all mmo’s live by this.
Since most do, I suspect GW2 will not, a hunch. They do things to stand out from others, good or bad, eye of the beholder.
