Cursed Shore Penn / Shelter Changes
Yes these changes just killed this farm spot (:-((
What I want to know is why ANET seems to believe Champions are anything other than a fat sack of HP which players ignore. Why even include them in events? They don’t do anything but get in our way.
The addition of the Champions makes me more angry they only drop blues most of the time.
The reward doesn’t equate the amount of time invested.
I think I’d still be PO’d if they were green in this case. I’m forced to fight them as opposed to wanting to do so.
Only being able to get one chest a day has turned me right off of doing them for awhile.
I may have 4-80 toons but i only really want to to dragons with one so this was all i had left and the dungeons in this game bore me to death so wont do them .
WvW i just got tired of cause its the same over and over.
So i never thought i would say this but i think i may have to go back to raiding to have real end game.

I kicked off a thread on this in the DE section before I knew this one was here, but my feeling is this: The event is better for game play, but less rewarding.
If you tossed an event chest at the end of any event that scaled all the way to spawning champions, we’d be in better shape
It is really that bad.
Loot is all sorts of messed up. Porous bones are back in full force.
The champs come with 5 people in the event. Sometimes they spawn with less then a minute to go and disappear and drop nothing when the event ends.
Im a warrior with gs and dual axes during these events and ill hammer on a vet the second he spawns until he dies and guess what? THEY STILL DROP NOTHING! If you do manage to get a drop its a blue or even worse salvaging items and porous bones.
Im really starting to get turned off with gw2 because of all this. The last farm spot we had. And all the issues with bugs and loot tables and how they cannot fix thwm.

It’s funny. Just before I logged with the new build to fix the mystic forge weapons I was farming pent/shelt and a guy in our party pretty much summed it up with: they killed it. Pent/shelt has been a regular part of my play since I first hit 80, even in the old ‘annoying’ Orr. I really don’t feel like going back to the new/improved Orr.
Pent/Shelt/Plinx are about scratching out the meager rations of a poorly designed loot system to begin with. The addition of Champs to a farming area is just a headscratcher. First of all they drop squat. Because they take forever to kill, they remove you from the opportunity to kill other more lucrative mobs. It’s like the people who implemented this have never actually played the game. I’m sorry, but I’m serious. No one who understands gaming and GW2 would ever think to change Orr in this manner. If I were in a development meeting it would take me about 2 seconds to understand that it was a bad idea. Who are the people making these decisions?
What was meager gold earnings before the improvement is now pretty much like what Champs drop…squat. I honestly don’t know if I’ll go back.
I agree with OP. The events themselves are more enjoyable to do, but on the downside you get less loot and gold.
i personally hate this update, i liked the way it was before this update, now it’s just annoying please just change it back the way it was

Personally I kept feeling it was only a matter of time before they do something to the DEs in that area. The timing and everything and general ease of the area was just too good to be true. It even got so much better recently with the drops, it was almost guilty feeling.
Way I see it, if you are going to make us kill a champion. Give us a chest. Doesn’t have to be a huge awesome chest like the temple events. Maybe a smaller one like the other champ events like Hydra queen and the flame elemental. Champions drop rates on themselves is garbage to nonexistant. The only reason people kill that champ (that is largely ignored most of the time) by the base in Orr is to reset Phlinx.
I had more fun today going back to old zones and doing the bosses again and stuff. But I also know that that is making a large hindrance in collecting tier 6 materials. But at least the chest buff is decent.
I kind of understand why they want people to spread out and move around. A lot of the time its very hard to do temples on my server it seems just because people stay cooped up at Pent/Shelter.

I wish they would one time try to farm anything worth while out here with the rest of us and hear some real feedback and experience this kitten first hand.

I agree, I really like the way it was before, it seemed more action packed to me to rush event after event with a group, I was having more fun, the adition of Champions could make it better, if it was 1 or 2 tops, but just now I had 4 champs on penitence, even 2 at the same time, with people droping left and right. I hope this is resolved in a good way, because I love GW and the work Arenanet has done in this game
They broke it. They also broke the event that starts the Arah chain so now the NPCs all insta-die in the new red AOE circles the rizen throw down. And I’m betting a lot more are broke that I haven’t seen yet. :/
I’m kind of at a loss as to why they’d make things unenjoyable in order to push you out to do other things. Why not make ALL things enjoyable?

Its not hard, just run back and forth in the tunnel and do the events at each end as they come up. I could easaly rack up 100 heavy moldy bags a hour, sell them unopened on the TP for 3 silver each and thats 3 G a hour.
And thats not including the other non moldy bag drops.
At least three of the dailies after the patch required you to specifically avoid Orr. It seems the devs want to force people to play in the rest of the world rather than farm a place only level 80s can go. Given they’ve explicitly said this, and they’ve increased the drops in other areas, I don’t know why this would be surprising.
Its painfully obvious that anets master plan is for us to all level warriors and farm cof p1 over and over again.
They nerfed AC, they nerfed Orr numerous times, but CoF P1 is still free faceroll loot.

No one in there right mind is going to go through the same effort for T1 mats as T6 mats.

Pretty much this… yeah. I agree Rifter. They said they increased drops but it was almost certainly by like a hundredth of a percentage point just so they could say they increased drops so they could distract the playerbase from their downleveling being harsher, wasting the time they spent gaining power, and nerfing warriors harder because warriors rely on raw stats.
So yeah, its a problem when a guy who has killed a dragon has difficulty killing a glow worm in a lvl 2 area and then doesn’t even get mats that could cover the potential repair cost if they farm an hour. Maybe if they made tp and armor repair cost based on the area you are in it would encourage us to leave.

Jesus i need to stop coming to the forums it makes my head hurt to much.
How could they leave such a key system in the game broken for that long, how hard can it be to scale loot with the rest of the scaling this isnt rocket science.

and you have considered that we don’t farm pent/shelter because it is “fun”, but just maybe because we’re trying to make gold to one day craft a legendary?

I couldn’t agree more that it is a very boring activity, but the lack of other options to RELIABLY bag some gold in this game kinda herd you towards those most profitable areas, like CoF, Fractals, and now deceased pent/shelter.

This is madness.. As it was, all ppl were doing was grinding pent and shelt.. How boring mindless garbage endgame is that! So anet have changed it, encouraging everyone to complete the temples, kill dragons are explore other areas. They’ve added guild missions which will be great once bugs are fixed, they’ve fixed a couple dungeons such as ac, given us new ways to get precursors and asended items, they’ve given us a new map in sPvP and created solo q, and rating matching.. They fixed a lot of bugs and made a few tweaks to classes.. All in all. Excellent patch and I can’t wait to play it later today.. It’s not a perfect game by any stretch, and they could buff a number of weaker builds, but i think that will come in time… Those wanted to rage quit seriously take games far too seriously
So bomber can you explain this equation: play the way you want + everyone must constantly do everything.
I like routine and want a comfortable playsession for the few hours i log on. I do my 2 dragons, daily, and a couple of penshelt runs. Why are you yelling at me? Bc i dont play your way?

Because they didn’t listen to their beta testers. We told them a lot of things that they ignored. They’re now realizing we were right all along.
I think I understand the theory behind it: drop T1 mats in a T1 map and T6 mats in a T6 map so that players have the option of farming for the tier of mats they require, rather than always getting T6 mats on every map.
However, the problem is that the rate for all mats is fairly low, and we still get garbage loot in addition to regular loot, so that doesn’t encourage us to play in other zones. I have no problem with the mat situation, but I do have a problem with getting Lvl 15 gear on my Lvl 50, as that doesn’t encourage me to stay there for very long.
How’d that work out for us so far?
Now let’s try some ideas that will really work.
You guys haven’t figured out yet that this is NOT a play how you want game? How many changes must they do before you all figure out that everyone is being pigeonholed to the gem store for anything worthwhile unless you want to play everyday for 4 years before you make enough gold ingame to buy an item…..
The first one for me was when they put DR in and then left it in so if you were a hardcore player/grinder, you were sol.

I’m going to guess that Shelter/ Penn are a part of the “A new test version of our advanced event scaling algorithm has been applied to four high-level, regularly played events to help us monitor the feasibility of this system in the live environment.”
So honestly, let them know what you think. It’s a test.
As for me, I think the events are more enjoyable now but they have killed the loot…and that was kinda the point of Shelter/Penn :/
Selebrity I actually play the same as u.. Login for maybe 2 hrs, do daily, kill dragons and farm pent shelt to ensure I make a bit of gold… Now the dragons give better loot, I can do something else rather than pent shelt and not be too much worse off.. And maybe even enjoy it a lil more.. My point was that ppl complain about grinding, then complain about taking grinding away.. The biggest thing ppl were complaining about pve wise, was the crap precursor drop rate, and the dismal loot from chests and temple’s forcing ppl to grind pent shelt over and over and over… They have addressed this which in think is a good thing
anet is stupid. they r ruining the game. what r they doing? situation 2 patches ago…. ppl farming citadel of flame path 1 and path 2 over and over again. becasue rest of the content is not worth doing for profit. at least many ppl were doing path 2 aswell. last patch they fixed WPs. now ppl dont even play path 2 because the last event is too hard….
so ppl r playing this game for farming their legedary and having some fun playing easy stuff. farming legendary is already pain in the kitten but it was ok. with all these “improvements” it gets even harder. im not motivated to log in anymore…..
anet is trying to improve the game experience by making everything harder???? they dont seem to realise whats going on….. most people reached their skill cap and they need to get carried through harder dungeons….

You mean I make the same gold now from 2 dragon kills? Anyway i havent asked for Less to do, I was a happy camper….i never asked for new stuff.
Between guild missions and the meta event chest fix pen/shelters days were already over. In my 2 hours of play last night I managed to get 20 rares by running around and doing every meta event that popped up. Once I throw guild missions into that rotation I will get even more rares.
I think this new scaling algorithm would be a massive improvement for 99% of the events in the game. I think the 1% of events that don’t benefit from it are the ones they chose to test it on. These are farming events that people do to make money. They don’t want fun and exciting they want mindless and boring with lots of loot.
Well, it’s even harder for me to make gold now. I’m still mostly getting white items, but now i get less of them…

This is a very bad idea, T1-T4 mats would become more expensive than T5-mats – and you couldn´t even farm them with your lvl 80.

Ya but how about bump every other thing in the game to give equal reward as penn/shelter so we dont’ need to grind instead of nerfing it. That’s what people trying to say.
We have to farm money. Everything in the game cost a bunch of gold. So instead of farmig 2 event 1000 times we need to farm 10 event 1000 times, you think that help? I think that’s what people is talking about.
I dont’ know how much the other event changed. If I can still net 4-5 gold an hour doing “the other event now”, I have nothing to worry about. But if they nerf pent/shelter, and we still only get like 1 gold per hour and we need to farm 1000+ gold for a legendary that really sucks.

I’ve been really enjoying the changes to Pent/Shelter, and the difference in whatever loot claim changes they made are staggering. I can actually pop in and out farming now without having to look for a group, and still get kill credit (even at prime time with 50ish people per event). I hope they roll this out to the rest of the events in the game.
