Some of my friends told me I really need to start sharing my ideas with Anet, because they really like this one… among others.

The current outfit system can be tweaked to ease certain game play concepts. Players like to level up their characters in many different ways. Some people work on crafting; others use Tomes of knowledge. It’s also fun to get out there and explore, and level up as you go. One of the drawbacks to this, however, is you will have to acquire new armor and weapons as you level up. It’s not cost effective to transmute these pieces, because you will be replacing them soon. This doesn’t mean you have to deal with the boring low level armor skins as you level up. You could just buy an outfit that is pre-made, and wear that as you level, but what if you want to do things differently? What if you want to customize your look and keep that same look as you level? Style and customization are huge parts of what makes Guild Wars 2 a great game!

I propose that ArenaNet makes an option to set your current configuration of armor skins as your outfit. This way, once you have your look just the way you want it, you can select “set as custom outfit”. That will be your look until you change your outfit, or transmute your armor to look differently. While you are wearing a custom outfit, you can change armor, and your look will not change.

This modification to the current outfit system would also compliment one other aspect of game play. Swapping ascended armor from one character to another. If you are a culturally diverse person, and you enjoy wearing different sets of cultural armor, this system can help you. Let’s say you have a Human Thief and a Norn Engineer, and you have crafted a set of ascended medium armor for the two characters to share, but you want each of them to have their respective cultural styles while they wear it. If you equip the armor on your Human Thief, and set up your wardrobe to look like the Human tier 3 cultural armor, then you set your look as an outfit by selecting “set as custom outfit”. You can then transfer the armor to your Norn Engineer, and repeat the same process until you have a cultural looking custom outfit set up for him as well. Now you will be able to swap that ascended armor back and forth without having to worry about loosing your cultural diversity! Isn’t it perfect? Not yet. What if instead of using transmutation charges, there was another kind of stock you could use to set up a custom outfit? What if you could buy Custom Outfit Charges to set up Custom outfits on your characters? It would be remunerative for ArenaNet, and customers will be glad to have this added feature. Everybody wins!

The idea comes up every few weeks when they release a new outfit (instead of a skin set; arglblargl 1stworldrage qq).

Custom outfits feel like a good idea. It might be complicated when trying to account for dye channels, though.

Many alts; handle it!

I posted the same idea a few times in other threads talking about the charges. I also think it’s a good idea.

Not sure about the part about cultural armor though.

An additional point I’d like to add to the discussion is making the custom outfit character bound. And you might ask “Why would you do that!? Now you can’t just put whatever custom outfit on whoever!” but hear me out. I think custom outfits should be like bag slots, that is, you should be able to unlock more than one and thus be able to have more variety of outfits for every character. The reason I think character bound is for the reason of armor weight and race. Trying to mix a custom outfit on an Asura elementalist and wearing it on your Sylvari guardian feels very wrong. I’d honestly rather be able to have 3 nice custom outfits for a character I can swap to (after creating them with whatever currency is needed to unlock the extra slots and whatever charges to create the outfit) than being able to just use the same outfit on every character.

But yeah, anyway I think the idea definitely has merit and should get more focus rather than people only constantly complaining about outfits vs armor skins.
