Custom animations for custom emotes

I’ve recently been thinking, and my fellow guild members agree with me on this.
What if we were able to make custom animations for our custom emotes in GW2? That would be amazing, yes? The necessary soft-wares are there, for the most part. Additional changes made by the Dev team wouldn’t really be all that hard. They could come up with some way for players to port animations they made in some animations software, (Like DAZ Studio) to the actual game. Whether it be by moving files, or downloading the animation into the game, whatever. They could find a way to make this a possibility, and then make some sort of program players could download, that would let them make custom chat commands for these custom emotes. For a profanity filter, so that players wouldn’t have to see John Doe humping Jane Doe if they didn’t want to, they could just use something similar to the profanity filter in the chat. It could be toggled in the options menu, and if you chose to have it on, the animation wouldn’t be displayed, but the emote/command would. If you chose to have it off, both the emote and the animation would be displayed. The DEVs would only have to set up the filter, software for making the commands, and some way for the animations to be ported into the game. The player base could do the rest. Maybe they could have it so that people could port over animations made by others? This is all theory right now, but if enough of us present a viable method for this to work, the devs will notice (If they don’t notice this post) and there will be a chance of this happening.

So , the devs would “only” need to create an (user) side animation kit, a way to store custom commands and animations tied to user and not to a server side command and then replicate to other clients and also manually check every animation that is sent to prevent bad use of the tool … yeah seems very possible and easy >_>

I don’t think a segment of the playerbase has the maturity to use that feature appropriately. It doesn’t matter if there would be a filter or not.

I have to agree with Belzebu. It’s actually a very complicated process and would require a lot of dev resources and time. It’s not really worth it in the end, especially because people would be able to make inappropriate animations and you wouldn’t actually have any way of policing them. You suggest a profanity filter, but there’s no way for the system to recognise when something is inappropriate.

I like the idea, in general. This game has a lack of emotes and if there was a way we could put that in the hands of players, it would take a lot off the devs.
But, there are a lot of cons to this idea… and a couple of unknown factors, such as if the game could even incorporate such a thing.
I’m no expert, but I’m pretty sure a lot of backend work would be needed to make the client read someones custom emote, send that through the server, and then to another client to read it and show it on the screen. While that might not seem like much, and probably wouldn’t be a huge deal if you only had a few people to worry about, the problems of that become exponentially bigger when you have the kind of numbers an MMO like Guild Wars 2 has (unless the game was made for it from the ground up…)
If they could get around that problem, (and any others I haven’t even thought of) then hey… I’m all for it!

I think trolls should have their computers smashed. ’Its all part of the game. U mad bro?’
