I don’t understand why why Anet decided that adding gemstore purchases like the toxic and scarlet pieces, obtainable through in game grind. Like what the French-toast man??
I payed for those skins with real money and now you decide to not make them exclusive anymore? It would of been different if they, Anet, put them on the gemstore again, because why not, they’ve dome that lots of times with previous armor skins. By adding exclusive gemstore items obtainable through a normal grind really makes me lose trust in your customer service. This makes me rethink what I buy on the store or if I will ever buy gemstore items again.

Honest queston here, were those items ever advertised as, “exclusive to the the gem store?”

I bought the minis and it doesn’t haunt me that others can get them now by farming events. I only wish that the jetpack was available as a reward choice.

Another of the rewards is a mini pack I paid real money for. In fact I bought 2 so I could get the mystic forge one as well. One of them (the Molten Beserker) is one of my favourite minis.

I’m happy they did it. I think it’s great that more people will be able to get them. In fact my only problem with it is that it’s only a temporary thing and anyone who misses this weekend will still be out of luck.

I guess what they’re trying to tell us as the customer is this “Don’t buy skins in the gem store because they’ll be available at some point in game.”

That’s the takeaway I get from this. I think the OP has a valid point. With all the possible awards they could have given I dont see why they had to choose those particular skins.

Also I felt that literally nothing on the rewards merchant was desirable in the least.

I don’t understand this post. ALL gem store items are available through in-game grinding…

The way I see it you pay cash (or convert gold to gems) to get them in the store or you gamble on the possibility that they might, one day, be available another way.

Since I collect mini pets and decided at the time they were sold in the store I had no problem paying for them I don’t see why this should bother me now.

(Similarly I just found out Dragon Age Inquision, a game I paid full price for at launch, is going for 60% off on Steam. In that case I knew for a fact it would be discounted sooner or later, but knowing that and knowing what it cost at release I decided I’d rather get it than wait.)

Not really different from the core game going Play for Free. Formerly, you had to pay for it…now you can get it without paying. /shrug

And, at the rate these rewards are dropping, those skins are still pretty exclusive. Lol.

Good luck.

I’m not disagreeing. I already said it simply. “Don’t buy skins with gems because sooner or later they’ll be available in game” Isn’t that the takeaway for skins like those gloves and shoulders?

It’s fine if that’s how they want to do it. Personally though I would rather be able to have at least a reasonable assumption that skins in the gem store are in fact gem store skins.

I don’t think consistency is too much to ask for.

You should say something like: “Don’t buy skins with gems because sooner or later they may be available in game” and there is a gamble part You buy gems (with real money or gold) or You waiting till some grind / collection event where this skin could be (or not).

I don’t really see the problem personally.

It would be a problem if Gem Store items were 100% “real cash” exclusive. But they aren’t, and never have been. You’ve always been able to snag gem store items through in-game gold obtained through normal gameplay if you so choose. Buying the items with real money is just the easier option to get them, but not at all the only way.

If the fact that you can buy gems through gold as a general premise doesn’t tick you off, than neither should this. At least not on the simple idea that they just plain aren’t exclusive any more. Because they never were.

MAYBE the price will be an issue, that they’re much easier to get now than getting the equivellent gold to buy them via gem conversion back when they were in the Gem Store. But that’ll depend on what rewards we’re “supposed” to be getting, so its too early to say at this point.

And even if they do end up being cheaper / easier to get than the old gem conversion, its essentially just a “sale” at that point. No different than putting them back in the Gem Store at 50% off or whatever, except that instead of grinding for gold and then converting gold to gems people can instead play a special event to get them.

I bought them back then, and I don’t mind that they’re back at all. I’m glad newer players now have a chance to get them and the other past event items that are in there.

You had the skins for over a year, that’s what your gems bought you.

That probably cost you less than what the grind required to earn enough blooms plus the gold to buy them now.

I only bought them for collection purposes and not used them :p
And collection stuff gets devalued by discounts and alternative ways to aquire them. If anything this stuff should get more expensive over time to reward early buyers instead of punishing them.

If it’s only an item you ticked off of a list, then it’s not something of true importance to you. The list is, not the item. Maybe you shouldn’t be so attached to those lists. So much so that you wish to refuse others from ticking off the items on their list.

Be careful what you ask for

You hit the nail on the head.

I bought the Scarlet Gloves and Spaulders because I wanted them, and I’m not at all bothered people can work towards them this way. But my enjoyment comes from building up my character, and not worrying about if other characters look like mine or if I have something to hold over other people’s heads.

I don’t really care.

Paying for that skin means less grind to get that skin.

Then you made a terrible purchase choice, are feeling buyer’s remorse from that and now transfering that feeling to outrage over this update. You were upset you wasted those gems ages ago (you didn’t use the item) and just want to vent that self irritation by lashing out at anet instead.

Better to hate a company than come to terms with making a stupid choice.
