The manager at ANet must have had a stroke and let someone decent take their place for once. These achievements are the best I’ve seen for an activity in… forever.

  • Dragon’s Shadow + Breath: The stealth and damage boost power-ups felt rather ignored last time this arena was up, despite how useful they can be. Attaching an achievement to these encourages players to pick them up and to pay attention to the game clock for when they spawn.
  • Dragon’s Gaze: Dragon Kick was a move that many people ignored using, if they even bothered to pick it up in the first place. It is, however, a very strong skill in the arena because it shuts down a player for two whole seconds, goes through the whirlwind, and can even cleave to shut down small groups of players. Encouraging players to pick up, use, and pay attention to how others are using skills is all good.
  • Dragon Ball Champion: Tying the repeatable achievement to wins instead of participation, coupled with not having immediate prizes for winning/playing matches, discourages leechers that were so problematic in Snowball Mayhem. It also demands that players who want rewards git gud or git lost. Thanks to this driving out a lot of bad players, in the short time so far that I have played, I have enjoyed a lot of fierce and close matches with very active teams on both sides. This stands in good contrast against other team-based activities I’ve played where some players simply stand around or lollygagging because the only incentive driving them is the one to show up and not the one to play well.
  • Dragon’s Heart: This is a bit grindy and certainly the worst of the achievements offered, but still acceptable just on account of its flavor. Encouraging players to pick up health to stay alive and not feed their opponents easy kills by remaining on low health is good. Anybody that plays this arena for some hours will naturally just fill this out.

Credit where credit is due – this is a really good part of how Dragon Ball was brought back this season. There are other areas of the event that are not so good, but I really want to highlight this part as a good example of encouraging players to do things that make them better players. More achievements need to be designed with this kind of attitude.

“Dragon’s Gaze”

My only problem with this one is that it requires 100 INTERRUPTS, not uses. Just stunning doesn’t count.

Everything else seems reasonable as far as achieving.

Another minus is not having any rewards for a win or loss. If there were say 2-5 envelops for a win and 1 for a loss I think that would be acceptable and might keep people from abandoning. I don’t expect to win every time, but it took me 2 hours to get 4 wins. That’s not right.

Which is why you have to watch for when your opponents are using skills. Or, you could dumb luck your way into getting it by firing it blind and hoping to interrupt. I feel like I do that and still get a connection about half the time.

Here is a YT playlist of me playing about 20 games the first time this was introduced and winning a bunch. If you’re struggling to do well, look at what I do and try to emulate it. In general, the more active you are and the more you focus targets with your teammates, the more you win.

The Achievements are simply said very uncreative and that stuff about the Health and the Interrupts are compared to the other achievements just pure Grind.

Instead of having to go for Healing 8888 Health, having to Heal just 2500-5000 Points would have been enough

Instead of 100 Interrupts, 100 Stuns would have been also more than enough.
That this Achievement is an incentive to watch closer what their enemies do is just ridiculously inaccurate, because people do everything manulative possible to speed up the AP Hunting to reduce their grind in the game.

You just need only to find cooperative players, that burst you to 10 HP and let you heal up to full Hp to collect the Health Restorers, for a maximum possible 140 Poiint,s if you take at 90 Hp the 50 point heal, which heals for the full 50, even if you still needed only 10 HP.
So the Achievement is manipulatable, same as like those Interrupts are…find someone wo spams 1 at you, so that you can interrupt them with 4, stop before anyone dies, heal up again, rinse and repeat ad nauseum grindis, until you’ve done the 100, which should be doable in 2 weeks

I wish, Anet would put some more love into Dragon Ball, if they would have truly improved it like in th patch notes has been told, that they did that.
But they improved nothing about it, they just added those few achievements to it for the current festival, which should count also as a festinal and not like an activity.

I’d love to see a really improved Dragon Ball as permanent Activity, after the Lunar New Years Festival

I’m gunna say it. I’m gunna get a lot of flak for it, but I’m gunna say it:
These achievements are uncreative (as someone above me said), tedious, are vastly over inflated in terms of how many times you need to repeat the same activity, and are (and this is just my opinion) just a little to far this side of frustrating.

But it’s clear from the way that they’re implemented that they’re designed for the hardcore AP hunting crowd of Guild Wars 2, and that’s okay. I mean, they don’t give any special items, no titles, nothing you can’t get anywhere else, and they’re only worth 6 AP a piece.

If you’re not an AP hunter you don’t lose a single thing by not doing these achievements. And if you are… I’m not sure why you’re complaining; isn’t this what AP grinding is all about? (Just look at the weapon mastery achieves. Or giant slayer….)

Dragons Gaze is stupid.

The kick isn’t a worthless skill, it is situational. Most of the game is focus fire or trying to get the jump on someone. The skill doesn’t help with either situation.

This grindy achievement promotes bad gameplay

Worst achievement since keg recoveries.

#24 leaderboard rank North America.

Yeah, the dragon’s gaze is just not a practical achievement. The other ones are either simple enough or just take enough time to do, but 100 interrupts is just too much.

Compare it to something like getting the stealth orbs. 5 stealth orbs is a relatively easy task to accomplish, and it can be done inside of a few matches (which I did).

However, the interrupts take a lot more work, and the way the skill works makes it more difficult than it needs to be. With only 300 rage and a clunky, slow startup, it’s not the easiest thing to land on people, and it’s fairly simple for them to either move out of range, or the thing just whiffs. It also has a tendency not to hit them if they’re on a lower elevation than you.

Since this is a “seasonal” activity, it’s understandable that the achievement goals are much smaller, but I don’t really think that one fits the bill.

But hey, it’s nowhere near on the level of something like keg assists or WvW dolyaks escorted, so I suppose that’s worth commending… I guess. It’s not like anyone will be missing out on anything special if they don’t do it anyways.

I thought the complete opposite (of these being good achievements) the health is just super grindy albeit doable. The interrupts could be a little troublesome being as the kick can be hard to land, although everyone just spams one so its an interrupt at least half the time if it hits.

Instead of those two being super grindy they could have included some of the other abilities into the achievements and toned those two down.

I agree that the list would have been better off with more things to do and less to do with some things.

It sounds to me though that the biggest complaints about the achievements are how grindy some of them are, but not about the behavior asked of or promoted by those achievements (apart from the time investment). The kinds of actions they chose to incentivize this time are much more in line with playing skillfully than just playing or just standing around.
