Guild Wars 2

I recently bought the DIGITAL HEROIC EDITION of gw2 and wanted to know how the skins work.
Once I get the armor skin and use it, does it disappear?
If not, is it something that you can use for all characters?
Can you trade it etc.

tl;dr wait until April 15th to apply that armor skin to your account.

I’m taking as an example the Primeval armor set:

Since this is a skin you can apply it to any level of armor you currently have, there’s no requirements when you are applying skins.

Applying the skin will make it disappear, however to use it on a new set you can use transmutation stones (soon to be transmutation charges). You’ll receive only 1 set of the skin so you currently can’t use it for all the other characters. (unless you transmute it to a white item but since that will become useless soon I won’t get into details).

However, due note that on April 15th we will be receiving the wardrobe, this will allow you to place the armor skin in it and unlock it for all your characters to wear. So you will have to wait until then.

Currently when you use the skin, it will disappear.
After the “feature pack” coming april 15, there will be a wardrobe in the game.
If you have the skin either as an item or on your armor by then, it will get added to your wardrobe and you can copy it as many times as you want for transmutation charges.
The skin cannot be traded.
Before the feature pack, it only works on 1 character and after the pack it works on all (but you still need to pay something for the transmutation charges)

“When the feature pack is released, log in with each character on your account to unlock all of the skins bound to that character.”

You can use it right now if you want, just be careful not to destroy them for any reason until you see that the item has been unlocked on the wardrobe.

You can buy more copies of the skin in the gem store (albeit pricey for someone who just started) so don’t fret too much using/losing it
