1. How long before DR kicks in, is it really just one hour?

2. Does DR affect the entire zone or just the specific area in the zone? This is what concerns me the most as I like to kill my way around a zone as I do the map completion.

thanks all.

There is a wiki article on DR on gw2wiki that is fairly accurate IF YOU DON’T GET BUGGED.

If you get bugged, I believe the only way to remove it is to run FOTM.

DR is account wide and zone-independent.

Doing FOTM will reset the DR?
For how long?

DR kicks in pretty quick because an hour goes by pretty fast, so I wouldn’t be surprised. I always seemed to be 1-2 hours before I get nothing on drops anymore and just logged out at that point.

Source? The DR article on GW2Wiki says nothing about “getting bugged”. It has an estimated time that DR “resets” which has no verification source. There is also nothing on that page substantiating your claim that running FotM clears or resets a DR. I’d be interested to see your source material for this.

The fact is, we know next to nothing about the DR, which is exactly how ANet wants it.

He never stated that FOTM resets the DR. What he meant was that FOTM is not affected by “world DR” which means if you get hit by DR and/or get bugged the only option for good drops is FOTM.

From what I read and experienced it is about an half hour before the drop rate starts to diminish if you stay in the same explorable area. A different area (even in the same zone) should have no dr until you stay there for a while. If you stay out of the zone the dr drops off again. So if you move around a zone dr should not affect you.
Repeating the same event will lower the reward on the third run. I think this does not apply to chains, but I have not really looked at rewards that specific.
The DR which (is supposed to) reset at 0:00 utc is the one on dungeons. This kicks in if you run the same path multiple times.

lolwut? He specifically said,

“If you get bugged, I believe the only way to remove it is to run FOTM.”

I believe, given the context of the OP, that he means actually resetting some kind of DR timer. Thanks for not reading, though.

While according to WIKI DR is zone independent, those of use suffering from what appears to be perma-DR feel it no matter what we do. For instance I am levelling a character atm who is constantly on the move, killing different things in different areas, and over the last 40 levels has not been able to upgrade armour/weapons through drops.
