Hi everyone, so .. I was sitting here the other day doing my dailies and talking with a few friends when the topic of how we all do our dailies, and most importantly, when we do them came up.

So I was wondering how does the GW2 community do their dailies?

A: Do you do them in a standalone format (Ex. You come in check the list and go right to those tasks only)

B: Come in and do your normal “thing” (Ex. Map exploration, Heart Quests, Train running etc.) and eventually you will complete the dailies when it happens.

For me, its Option A. I come in look to see what needs to be done and I’m off to it. What is yours?

See you around Tyria.

i do them like option A during the week but on weekends i do option B

doing what i want to do in game will not finish a daily which is why i do it like that in the week as i don’t have much time to play.

A combination of both, really. I am often farming BLTC keys, so if they mesh, all the better. I do finish all the daily tasks I like, though, regardless.

I try to get as many daily AP points as possible and while i do what i want first and foremost i will play in different areas to achieve them. So ya, i specifically check them when i log in. Haven’t missed my daily achievement bonus in months.

I like leveling alts so I do my dailys exclusively on lower level alts. This is the only way I enjoy dailys. I wish dailys were not in the game but I have been having fun doing them as a leveling tool and watching the experience gains being added after completing dailys is enjoyable for me.

I do them standalone, first thing when I log on. After they are done then I play the game as I want and do the things that I like doing once I get the daily imposed tasks out of the way.

If I do the dailys on a lower level alt and just try to accumulate them as I go while playing normally, then this only what occurs for me in WvWvW. I really like getting all or part of my daily done without focusing specifically on the daily tasks while I am just playing WvWvW.

I would skip the dailys if I could and would not do them on any of my level 80’s… they only way I do them is on a lower level alt.

Dailys aren’t hard or challenging, I would rather just play as I want and do the things I enjoy.

First I pick out which ones I can do my alt that I’m leveling and complete those. Then I go and play WvW and complete the ones that count there on a high level character (just by playing normally, don’t really have to try and complete those).

I normally complete more than the minimum unless I’m short on time. I never complete all of them because there is usually something I don’t want to do listed.

I usually get most of them overlapping with what I’m already doing, although I will go out of my way occasionally, especially if it’s something I like but don’t always do (jumping puzzles, Sanctum Sprint, etc.) I typically log in, check the list for ones that overlap with what I feel like doing that day, then figure out which characters to play which part, and which ones I feel like playing that day.

It sounds long when I type it out, but it’s hardly a minute of decision-making. Mostly I like dailies for laurels, a little bonus XP on alts, and some sense of direction if I’m not sure what I want to do that day.

Depends, some times I’ll just log on to do the daily, in which case I’ll figure out the most efficient way of getting them done, on the other hand if I’m getting on to do something else, like run dungeons with guildmates or whatever, I’ll go do stuff with friends and then once we’re done check and see what I can do to finish the daily as usually just playing whatever I want will get me 2 or so tasks done. Pretty rarely does my whole daily just “happen” without me putting some effort towards it.

With events like mad king clock tower, I’ll check and see if it is on the list and go do that first. I love that jumping puzzle.

If not on the list or some kind of event that I really like, then it depends if I just got off work, if I have to work tomorrow, or other such factors.

Usually I’ll just get them as I play but sometimes I do like to see how fast I can get them done.

It really depends on the day. If there is something I want done quickly (like on only need a few more laurels for something, or the LS achieves) and I don’t have much time (like crazy days where I only have a small amount of time, I’ll jump on, use my main, and knock them out ASAP.

On a regular day, I’ll get on an alt I’m leveling, and see which ones most coincide with what I’m already working on, and do those as I do what I wanted to, maybe jumping into Queensdale for a quick champ or two if that works with the dailies.

Or if it’s a jumping puzzle day, I definitely do that right away as an excuse to get another notch in my jumping puzzle list, lol.

For me, it depends on how much time I have to play that day. If I have a lot of time I just continue on leveling my characters in PvE, and eventually I get the dailys done. If I am really short on time, I’ll just concentrate on the dailies which take all of 30-45 minutes, then log off for the night.

I look at the daily list, quickly knock off any that can be done in a few seconds in town (visit the laurel vendor, craft 10 items, that sort of thing), then think about what I’m in the mood to do, and do something that meshes.

e.g. if I feel like just general adventuring, I’ll pick a character and go adventure in a zone where there are kill quests or event quests; if I feel like WvW’ing, I’ll put the WvW dailies on the watchlist and go WvW.

Since I don’t PvP or WvW, I ignore those dailies altogether. I always start off by doing 2 – 3 matches of the day’s Activity (working on the achievements), then look at which maps have the Daily Kills/Veterans/Events, and pick an alt to play who’s currently in an appropriate map. If I have time after that, I also do a Fractal or dungeon if there’s a daily for that day, otherwise I skip it.

Since the Halloween/Boss Week dailies came in, I can frequently earn about 8 – 10 AP every day doing this.

When I log on after reset I usually check what dailies are up and then go through and put on my Watch List all of the quick and easy ones. I choose a minimum of 5 each day and depending on how quick and easy they are I will do up to 10 sometimes.

If I can get some dailies through normal activity I will. The rest I will quickly cycle through.

I’ve done option A for a long time. Every day before reset and right after reset. After a while I felt that I log in just to do dailies and nothing else anymore. It became more a day of pressure than anything else, especially when you’re new to the game or just got back. So I decided the last weeks to just ignore Dailies, but the moment I started doing that, anything I do alone or with friends counts as a daily apparently lol. So I switched my method to B unintentionally.

If I find the motivation to log in, I will just hang out somewhere and maybe go to a place I want. I got 110 laurels left over anyway, so I do not care about dailies. Rarely they get done by just playing, most of the time, I log out without finishing the dailies.

I am tired of grinding in this game, and grinding dailies is no exception.

I like to log on an hour before the reset and hammer out two daily achieves in one session.

Using this method allows me to miss a day (Pacific timezone here) without missing a laurel.

Normally B.

When I first log in I usually have at least a few tasks or activities of my own in mind already so I just get on and do that. I’ll start to think about dailies either when I’m running out of things to do or when I notice I’ve got 4/5. Then I’ll look for any quick and easy ones to do (like crafting, visit the laurel vendor, activity participation etc.) and do them, or if there isn’t anything I’ll skip it that day. But it’s equally likely that before I even start thinking about it I’ll have done 5 dailies anyway just by playing.

Sometimes I want to play but don’t have anything in particular in mind to do and then I’ll check the dailies first and use them as a guide. For example if killing vets in Ascalon is on the list I’ll log into a character who is in Ascalon and play them.

On very rare occasions when I’m close to having enough laurels for something I might make more of an effort, but I think that only happened once when I was 2 laurels off getting Chauncey von Snuffles III.

I sometimes do A and sometimes do B. But usually I tend to just A for the time being since the other option for me is waiting around for boss timers. That and dailies usually reset so late its hard for me to put a lot of effort into it.

Then there are some days I just don’t care to finish dailies so I just do whatever I want. Which describes what I have been doing for the past week.

My husband and I are more option B. We come on, do our thing. Close to the end of the night if we’ll check what we have done on them. If they are close to done, we’ll focus on finishing them off (if it’s not something that we have to go insanely out of the way to do), otherwise we just say to kitten with it and carry on.

Generally speaking we don’t go out of our way to worry about dailies or monthlies.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

I usually do a mix of A and B

I try to just play around the game and let dailies do themselves, but also adjust my gameplay so they do themselves faster.

Usually I just check to see which ones can be done quickly and do them first (activity participation, crafting, food eater, visit a laurel vendor and the like), then check if there’s something better suited for a specific character (if it’s condition applier, for example, I play either condition mesmer or engineer, if it’s condition cleanser, I play my guardian that’s traited to remove several conditions every 10 secs ).

Then I just go to play in a zone where I can complete them, preferably if I can make more than one at the same time (if it’s maguman killer and underwater killer at the same time, for example, I go to sparkfly fen and play underwater areas), but don’t really go out of my way once I’m there. Then again, the way I usually play tends to go well with achievement completing, if I see an event, I head there, if I see a gathering node, I pick it up and so on.

As for monthlies, well, depends on which one. I’ll go to complete them if it’s something I think I’ll enjoy, like I did with last one with jumping puzzles, found lots of them I didn’t know about and had lots of fun completing them.

It’s a pile of Elonian protection magic, mixed with a little monk training,

A combination of both for me, but I like to knock them out right after server reset, I normally will run Wayfarer right after reset doing the wolfmaster, and the maw, gathering in between the two, kill everything in my path. Most of the time by then all are finished if not I’ll take a look and finish whatever is left to get 5 of them, then normally I’ll get 1 to 2 more just in normal play before the next reset.

Usually always A, B if I’m actually mapping on an alt. I enjoy doing them mostly. I still have to do last nights. I use the area killer ones (40 monsters in one area type) to add up to 40 kills in slayer categories. The rest comes naturally or are easy to get such as using world bosses for group event or champ train (event champs) for it and champ killer simultaneously. Dodger and interrupts are a pain (elementalists don’t dodge or interrupt well).

For me, its a mix of both. I do the specific ones (dungeon ones, jps, zone kills/events) like a checklist, usually first. Then I go into WvW for the specific ones there, and just let the normal play ones (dodge/kills/events/gatherer) happen.
(I usually have to do them all, for the AP, but I might skip one or two due to time constraints, like the Teq specific one.)

I usually look at the list of dailies and look for a few things:
1. Quick or easy ones, like crafting, laurel vendor, mystic forge, or ambiants.
2. What overlaps with something I was going to do anyway.

Often that will get all 5 for me, but sometimes I pick another and do it if I’m not up to 5 yet, like daily activity or puzzle jumper.

2/5 of them I always do anyway, the gathering one and the Activity Participation one. Those are tasks I just get done regardless if there was a daily category for them or not. Luckily there is.

Then I take a look at the actual daily before I start my exploration. I’m currently working on Orr and WvW maps to finish up 100% on my alt so I try to kill two birds. If there’s something like Skill Point or Leveler, those are directly in line with my Orr exploration and so I can do those without even thinking about it. Same goes with Veteran killer, Daily kills, or Champion Slayer. Those are all categories I can complete while I explore normally. The zone-specific ones are where I actually go out of my way, if I even need them for the 5/5, which most of the time I don’t. At this point I can do them super fast so why pass up the AP when I can knock them out in 5min.

WvW daily gets done from playing in general, no thinking about that one. Same goes for PvP daily. I enjoy sPvP, so I play at least 5 games, which is plenty to finish the daily category and I don’t have to think about it either.

It’s pretty rare that I have to stop what I’m doing to get a daily done. I just decide what I want to do, then look at daily and see how many of them will get done in the course of what I’m doing.

The JP completer one I have a toon logged out in Pearl Islet at Southsun Cove, so that’s a no-brainer.

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

I love doing the snow ridge event chain in Fireheart (usually you get at least 3 of the dailies done with it). If you manage to solo the last event if you are on your own, you can then do the champ spider for another daily. It’s a great chain to test your skills (especially the last event in the chain).

Right now it’s pretty much option ‘A’ with world events and an occasional champ train for the monthly or just gold. If they were to succeed with the promised horizontal scaling of skill/ability progression and began evolving the LW in a permanent manner, I would probably log in more often for more reasons.

I feel like I’m in a holding pattern hoping they make changes to the way they have managed the game over time. At launch I felt GW2 was the best MMO I had ever played. Naturally, it wasn’t perfect, but it was amazing and had tremendous potential. I don’t agree with the way they have evolved the game over time.

Neither I guess?

Usually my partner and I log in with the idea of completing the dailies (especially when they contribute to a living story meta) however, we don’t necessarily go out directly seeking these. What we do with our playtime is partly decided on what choice of activity (“Thing”) will net us daily achievements in a timely fashion without having to restrict ourselves to particular play.

For example, with the Mad Kings Realm active, if the achievements are generic enough to be done in any zone (kill X mobs, do X events, kill X veterans) we will go there to knock them out in <30min while running around smashing everything.

If the achievements are more zone restrictive (or no living story meta) we jump on alts we are actively leveling and explore a zone which has the easiest/most achievements possible.
