The dailies are too much, even for hardcore players.

I just had two friends quit the game within the past week because they could not afford to spend 2-4 hours every single day to get all dailies done. These friends were both hardcore – one with 12501 AP and other with 10339 AP.

I know people will say “You don’t HAVE to do all the dailies”. But, the truth is hardcore players will try to stay on the rankings and will try to do all of them every day.

I think a possible solution for this is to cap the PvE dailies at 10AP/day. This would let the game have more of the advertised “play how you want” feel.

2-4 hours? No offense, but if a daily is taking 2hrs+, then a “hardcore” player they are not.

But granted, if my playstyle required 2hrs+ to finish a daily, I’d burn out too…. and the daily would be the least of my gripes.

I go and simply play the game. By the time I’m done a typical session, most if not all of my dailies are already done without having made a conscious effort to complete them. If it’s not complete, I usually only have one more thing to do to finish the daily; something easy like gathering some mats or visiting a laurel vendor.

If these “hardcore” friends aren’t completing their dailies from having played the game 2-4 hours, I can only conclude they’re repeating the same actions over and over in a very limited area of the game; such as only running CoF or only doing PvP for those 2 to 4 hours.

Mix it up a bit and dailies are quite easy to complete without much effort.

You don’t need to do “all” of the dailies in the category. Just 5. Personally, if I don’t feel like doing them, I just don’t do them.

Just because it’s there doesn’t mean you have to do it. That’s like saying you have to eat the whole cake just because it’s there. It’s just asking for a tummy ache.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Looks like 90% of the replies did not even read my whole post.

Yes, doing 5 dailies is easy and takes 5 minutes. Doing all 14-16 + PvP involves having to do some of the longer ones which takes 2-4 hours, depending on which ones are available.

And yes, they are not mandatory to most people, but for the minority that is trying to compete with their server’s top achievement point ranking they are. If you are not able to commit 4 hours on any given weekday then you WILL drop down in ranks. This commitment is a little much to ask I think.

You may say it is not an issue, but it clearly is. Two of my friends QUIT the game because of this.

That is why I suggested a very simple fix, which everyone who responded did not even read before posting a response.

I view this issue as a conflict between two groups.

One group wants to play a lot. They want goals to chase — in other words, they desire things to work towards while playing a lot. They’re not happy unless they can feel they’ve gained something, even if it’s only an achievement point. This crowd always wants something more to do. They want to be on the top of the list because that’s their “reward” for their “dedication.”

The second group wants to “accomplish” everything the game puts in front of them. However, they don’t like having to take a lot of time to do so. They begrudge the thought of stepping away from any possible gain, even if it’s only one achievement point. This crowd wants less to do.

The second crowd is trying to compete with the first, but wants the game to offer less choice of things to pursue, so they can keep up with the point “race” without having to keep up in time spent.

Both crowds cannot be accommodated — no more than the we-want-stat-inflation crowd and the we-don’t-want-stat-inflation crowd can be.

I don’t understand the viewpoint of “completionist have a problem with repeatable content”. Do they also salvage items until they’ve done agent of entropy 250 times?
How did they ever get out of Sanctum Sprint (or any other repeatable activity/achievement).

Again, it’s not a race, I understand people feeling compelled to complete every daily every day to maximize their achievement points … but to the point they “burn out”?

It’s the most flexible generous system I’ve seen so far, it provides options.

“Whose Kitten is this?” – “It’s a Charr baby.”
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”

It’s quite simple:

There is no rush to complete the achievements you mentioned because they are permanent.

Dailies, on the other hand, if you miss one it is gone forever. You can never go back and get it again.

I view this issue as a conflict between two groups.

I don’t think you have those groups down quite right. The people who have been completing every daily and have 10k+ points fit more into the group that wants to play the game. However, when the dailies take 4 hours on some days, and you add work/family/school into the equation, this starts to become a chore after a few months.

All I’m asking is to cap the number of AP at 10 per day, that way both the people who can’t always commit 4 hours, and the people who want to do more than just 5 dailies will be satisfied.

I’m sure 90% of the people with 10k+ achievement points will agree with me because every single one that I have spoken with seemed to share the same opinion.

“I have 3000 hours played, I’ve worked very hard to be in the top 100 achievement ranking. If I don’t commit 4 hours strictly to dailies for a few weeks, I’ll drop 400 spots on the ranking. I need to find a game that requires less of a daily time commitment and let’s me play how I want.”

So, cause being “hardcore” is proving too “hardcore”, you want them to cap off the AP so the players that are more dedicated to being “hardcore” then you won’t pass you while you recoop? Is that what I’m getting?
You play doing how you feel by doing all your dailies. If you don’t feel like doing them all, you don’t have to because you don’t feel like it. However, if you’re competing for rank, you can’t go asking them to cripple the leader’s AP gain just so you can keep up.

This is your assumption from a standpoint of someone who has not had to put up with this over the past year.

If you ask the 1000 players on the top 1000 ranking how they feel, over 9000 of them will agree that the PvE dailies are too much. People are literally quitting the game because of this issue, I just want Anet to be aware of it.

Your experience may not be typical. I don’t know anyone that’s getting burned out, as you put it. I do know a few tryhards, though. Because you have no experience of a different group does not mean that they do not exist.

The purpose of leaderboards is to cater to people who want their time in game to matter for something. If you take that away from them, you lose their interest, and the leaderboards have no reason to exist.

If you are making a race out of it and you want to compete with all the others who are making a race out of it – and because of that you “burn out” – then I guess you lost and did not have what it takes to race with the others.

Imagine there was a statistic for the amount of alts you have.

It’s simply not meant that way.

The (achievement) leaderboards as they are right now don’t really serve a meaningful “competitive” purpose. That could be changed, but there is nothing wrong with the format of dailies.

Edit: In other words, it is not the dailies that burn people out but the desire to be on top of the leaderboard.

“Whose Kitten is this?” – “It’s a Charr baby.”
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”

If I have 4 hours to commit to the game on a given day, I’d love to spend 2 hours doing my dailies, an hour in dungeons, and an hour in WvW. Instead, on some days I have to spend the entire 4 hours doing dailies if I wish to remain on the leaderboard.

I, like others have posted, usually just look at my daily as I am wrapping it up for the night. Almost always at 5/5 or 4/5, very rarely it will be 3/5. I usually just have to go gather and kill some ambients for 10 minutes or something in a BG.

The dailies are not required, but are easily obtainable without making them “log in and collect for doing nothing”. My only gripe is when the dailies heavily favor one thing over the other. It’s rare, but sometimes there is almost no WVW, or no PVE, etc. Usually if you do a dungeon or WVW, you’re set, but sometimes not if you do either. It’s not a big deal, but sometimes I have to do a bit more work, but it’s rare.

This is a personal issue that you and your friends are having. It isn’t dailies.

You need to change your mindset, that is all. Doing ALL dailies is optional.

If you are doing them to try and remain “competetive” lololololol in achievement points lolololololol, that is a issue you are having, not a problem with dailies.

BTW, there is no reason to try and be #1 in achievement points. You do not get anything special. I don’t believe very many people actually care about them beyond the loot.

I’m not sure you can look at it like that. If I wish to be playing with the best of the best in PvP I don’t think I can say … oh, that is just taking too much time, I want to remain my leading position by only participating 30 minutes a week.

They have to establish what is more important to them – play the way they want – or be in the top of the leaderboard.

Or you can look at it from the other way, Anet does not decide how many people to what extent participate.

We’ve also already established that the format of the leaderboard itself is not suitable. Personally I don’t even think there should be a “PvE leaderboard”.

Seeing as most people here are unable to comprehend what I am asking for, or even why a completionist would feel compelled to complete all dailies, I will stop responding to this thread.

I hope Anet is already aware of the issue and will eventually fix it.

Made the thread…. couldn’t take the response. Check

On topic, I was part of the ‘completionist’ crowd once. Then I missed some achievements, and low-n-behold, it didn’t kill me. Its not the end of the world.

I can understand the compulsion to want to do it all, but honestly the only person that can help you, is you. You have to make the decision to either stick to your guns and do them, letting the inner demon dictate how you play. OR, take a deep breath, choose not to, and play the way ‘you want to.’ Honestly, choosing to do all the dailies is ‘play how you want’ because you are making that decision. No one has a gun to your head. (Well, you might be holding one to your own head, but I’m not a shrink, I can’t help you there)

We are given that many dailies in order to provide players with a variety of options in their hunt to complete their 5 a day. People don’t want to be locked into the same 5 every day necessarily. Some prefer to simply not do them at all.

The only person that can decide how you want to approach your dailies, is you. Don’t expect ‘big brother’ to make the decisions for you. Don’t be a mindless sheep!

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

So you want to keep up with the people at the top of the leaderboard, but you don’t want to put in the time and effort that requires? Imagine for a minute applying that logic to any other aspect of the game.

Like wanting WvW changed so one server can only control a maximum of 2/3 of the contested areas because that’s what your server can manage to hold and you think it’s unfair that some of your opponents can do better.

Or wanting them to limit PvP players to winning 4 matches a day because you don’t have time to play more than that.

Does that sound reasonable too?

So, did reading comprehension just radically plummet while I wasn’t looking?

Its not 2-4 hours to get FIVE of the daily tasks done. He’s talking about 2-4 hours to get ALL of them done each day.

As I frequently knock all of them down, that sounds like a very plausible amount of time to me.

It can take up to 2 hrs to finish all dailies, some times longer if you get some very annouyning WvWvW ones, specially one which requires u to repair a building but no one is attacking your server. I did this exactly for almost 2 months straight (currently at 12k AP) i decided I cannot keep this up much longer!

So I changed the way to play the game, i decided its not worth the effort to get those additional 10 AP everyday, the 5 is more than sufficient.
Now I simply play the game i want, when I am about to log, I glance back at my daily progress, usually I notice I am already at 3/5 or 4/5 at which point I pick the easiest from the remaining choices.

But I agree with OP if u try to do all 14/15 every day + the pvp u will find yourself no longer enjoying the game.
Now is it fair to say that they should limit the points? No, since there are other extremely hardcore players out these that enjoy doing this and they should be allowed to continue to do them all if they like it.

Wait what, people are trying to do every part, not just to get 5/5? There is therapy for that, that’s just pointless. Achievement points mean nothing.
