So this daily sounds simple enough, get an evade by dodging attacks. But I have found a searing problem. How are high lag players meant to get this daily done?

I play from Australia where everything feels like it happens a second and a bit later to happen and such doing this daily just seem impossible. either you dodge too early through prediction, or dodge when Anet expected you to dodge at, get hit and dodge after.

If you are going to put more twitch based dailies/monthies in, We expect an Australian or even a South East Asian sever to make these possible

1. Go into WvW
2. Run into a zerg of enemy invaders (shouldn’t be hard to find, follow the cross-swords).
3. Use Dodge
4. Done (though likely dead at this point)

One thing that might help you get this is to go into an area with multiple mobs packed in a small space that won’t overwhelm you. A good potential example is the grubs in the Troll cave in Queensdale. If you aggro several of them with area damage, as you move around in the group, dodge on one. You might not dodge right for that one, but you are more likely to evade attacks from the rest since they’re not all attacking at the exact same time.

Ranged attackers are fairly easy to dodge, especially ones with a visible “wind-up” like archers. As long as the arrow is in the air and you dodge in time, you’ll get the evade. Took about 2 minutes with a pair of grawl hunters.

Also, dodging is much easier when playing ranged, because you have more time between seeing the right animation and having to dodge. To that event, try dodging away from ranged mobs – same effekt, but even better

The undead necromancers in orr shoot the really slow moving hand attack. I was able to get 8/10 dodges off of one foe. With them, and lag you should be able to time your dodge based on distance. A little bit of trial and error and you will figure..I need to dodge when the projectile is “this far” away. Whatever that is. And they hit very softly if you have just one, so you should be able to stay alive indefinitely while you figure it out.

I don’t like this one so much because it feels the least natural. With all the other types, it’s something I was doing anyway (though sometimes I had to go out of my way to find more events or more enemy types).

Some character types don’t rely on dodge very much, especially vs. melee enemies. And when you are dodging melee enemies who are rooted during their animations, dodging “too early” is tatically better than dodging at the “right” time anyway.

To finish this one I wound up fighting a bunch of moas and hoping they’d use their cone attack which lasts a couple seconds. It felt very unheroic and unexpolorer-y.

Equip a greatsword and go fight some mobs with the 1 ability.

The third attack which is evasive, counts for the daily track. So even if you cant dodge worth kitten you will get the daily done by spamming 1 on mobs.

Wait for it to hurl a rock and you.
Dodge. You’ll have way over a second to do that. If you lag longer than a second, then your problem is not the achievement, but your connection.

Other examples of slow attackers easy to dodge are ettins, giants and treant-type plants.

Have I mentioned I hate the new dailies. Everyday there is now anger at some point in my gameplay. Maybe they are combating apathy or boredom through anger generation.

That said, as mentioned ranged attackers that telegraph the ability are easiest. Even with lag you will be able to get their timing down with a little practice. I use the tar elementals and risen spiders (shoot web) around the pent/shelt farm area in Orr. It is still tedious as hell especially when you dodge correctly and don’t get an ‘evade’. And, if you are like me, you will be ready throw something at a wall before you are done even without lag. Best wishes with your dailies.

The issue is not how hard or easy it is to do. Having these daily achievements alters the way people play and not necessarily for the better. That was probably not ANet’s intention. In theory Dodger and Combo Killer were “freebies” you can randomly get these done in normal course of playing. In practice many people are going to be “doing their daily” to ensure that it gets done in a timely matter which will force a certain play style making things less enjoyable.

If people are altering the way they play the game to dodge correctly, it cant NOT be for the better.

The issue is not how hard or easy it is to do. Having these daily achievements alters the way people play and not necessarily for the better.

Except that the old Dailies did the same thing. It takes a very long time to get 60 kills in WvW. Most NPCs you’ll be killing are veterans, and you should no be attacking wildlife. Getting player kills can be very difficult unless you catch someone overextending, and that’s not gonna happen 60 times in an hour. I have to drop out of WvW to get this achievement in a reasonable amount of time.

Then you have the “15 unique creature kills” which doesn’t work in WvW, either (unless, of course, you are attacking wildlife). Heck, a good chunk of the maps don’t have 15 unique creatures in it (Orr is a primary example, but you see this in other maps, too).

If you’re whole argument is “These new dailies get in the way of normal gameplay”, it falls flat because the old dailies weren’t any better.

To be fair there is a difference between dodging an attack and managing to get the Evade proc. You can dodge early and you still have avoided the attack by no longer being in the area the mob is striking but you don’t proc the Evade and thus it doesn’t count.

I have a wacky theory ArenaNet deliberately put this achievement in the game because they’ve been watching their playerbase not figuring out how to properly dodge even after all these months

Perhaps they saw a large amount of unnecessary spam dodging and ArenaNet is hoping this achievement will help people figure it out.

Playing a guardian who heals when they dodge means that I’ll keep spamming it anyway and I still maintain a proper tutorial at the start covering dodge (and other mechanics) would have been very helpful.

Sorry, if you need to go out of your way and alter your gameplay to get Daily Dodger done, you weren’t playing properly in the first place.

The 4 fixed dailies we had before weren’t much better in that sense. Dailies are not about going out and doing them specifically. They just happen as you play the game normally. That includes dodging/crafting/killing/different ennemi types/events, etc.. etc…

Most of the time, my dailies would just self complete and pop up when I least expected it, other times, I would have a few objectives to clean-up (2-3 types left, 5 kills, 1 event, etc..) which I would need to “chore through”.

Nothing’s changed, but at least now we have a diversity rather than always the same 4 stale objectives.

Exactly. Dodging early is often BETTER than waiting for the Evade proc. You have that much more time to maneuver or counterattack while your enemy is still in their attack animation.

OTOH, sometimes with ranged attacks timing is more important. But typically, I don’t worry about dodging except for big attacks, to put space between me and my enemy, or to proc other effects (e.g. caltrops, healing). My Thief dodges a lot and has the endurance to do so. My Necro tends to just burn stuff down and uses dodging mainly to make more space while kiting.

Incorrect. There’s a very big difference between dodging and actually getting evasion to proc, which is required for the achievement.

It’s possible to dodge out of melee range and therefore fail to evade, or to dodge early during a long windup. Both of these are common dodging tactics which, indeed, are typically signs of skilled gameplay. But to specifically get the evade, you must dodge 1) a ranged attack, or 2) while staying in melee range of the enemy attacking. If you’re a ranged character, dodging while deliberately staying in melee range is a bad move.

CoE Alpha should do Daily Dodger before he’s dead, so should about any dodgaeable boss mechanics. Heck “Evaded” procs multiple times with me just running around gathering nodes, so Daily Gatherer and Daily Dodger gets done at the same time.

If you’re not dodging and getting evade to proc 10 times in 24 hours, there’s something very wrong with your playstyle.
