Since the “new” daily inception there has been a lot of complaints.

These come from people wanting more freedom, more variety or diversity or people that just want it easy.
My big issue with the new daily system is frankly that we are gaining achievement points. We are achieving something – hence the name. But what really are we achieving in our dailys?

Daily Gatherer
Daily Vista Viewer
Daily Mystic Forger

Are these really achievements worth getting points for?

So what is my suggestion to this?

Remove the current daily system on accounts that have reached a set level of AP ~ My suggestion for this would be 2000 AP. By this point I feel most players have a decent understanding of the game. They would get their 2k AP chest and understand the basics of how AP is gained.

Replace the dailys with more challenging content that has a large variety of options.
These are just some examples of what could potentially replace the current daily ideas~
I am suggesting having 8~ per day per section and having

Only 2 of any of these dailys would be required per day

PvE~
-Specific Jumping Puzzle / Specific Jumping Puzzles that are deemed “tricky” (silverwastes/scavenger’s chasm type ones)
-Fractals Scale (30+/40+50+)
-Dungeon Explorable Path (70+ dungeons only [or 80..]) CoF/CoE/Arah/HoTW.. I guess any dungeon exp path could be included in this
-Ascended Crafting Material (Ties in with the daily anyway and does require SOME player input)
-Daily Dry Top event completer (Swap with Silverwastes/Southsun/Frostgorge/Orr – Only 80 zones)
-Daily Tequatl/Trip Trouble/Vinewrath (Only the “hard” world bosses)

PvP~ I’m lacking creativity for WvW/PvP dailys i’m sure others can think of more challenging ones

Rank Up ~ 10k Rank points
PvP Defender ~ 10 players
PvP Stomper ~ 10 stomps
PvP Winner ~ win 10 games in PvP

WvW~ I’m not a WvW’er I’m sure other people can think of more challenging WvW daily tasks

Rank Up ~Minimum of 5 Ranks
Siege Master ~ Minimum of 100 supply used on building Siege
Repair Master ~ Minimum of 100 supply used on Repairing

The idea of these honestly, is to make people actually put some time and effort in for their achievement points.
I am aware most people will tell me this is a stupid idea. That they want to complete their daily and get their AP without it interrupting their game play, but why do they really need that AP.. and what are they even achieving by doing their daily :/

Rewards for these could be increased accordingly. However, people are getting 10 AP for their daily which is the reward at the end of the day.

For a Fractal 30, the reward could be a +5 Agony Infusion. For a Fractal 40, it could be a +8, and for a Fractal 50 it could be a +10.
Or, for a fractal 50 it could be a Fractal Weapon Chest :o! ~Throwing it out there you know.

For PvP Rewards we could see 10~PvP reward potions or 15. It could give a chest containing a Tribal Armor Box ~

For WvW Rewards we could see Superior Siege boxes- containing 10x whatever superior siege item you wanted (5 golems) Or we could see Kegs of Liquid World Experience.

I get these rewards are probably way over scaled to the actual dailys. But in my opinion these would be the incentives to play the more “challenging” or more “time consuming” dailys.

Right now we have people wanting the easy options that take less than 5 minutes. Then they log off until the next day.
These rewards for the higher teirs of the game actually give people something to aim for.

Oh people get a reward for doing a 30+ Fractal? Maybe I’ll push up to 30+ Fractal.
Oh people get a nice reward for doing events in Dry top? Maybe I’ll do some Dry top events.

Right now, the rewards are too generic and there is no incentive to do the “difficult” dailys. There is no reason to both with anything “difficult”.

~As I’ve said, I know this wont get a look in by developers. I know the entire forum base is going to condemn me for thinking we need to actually work for AP. But at least I suggested it :c~

Can mods please stop locking threads that are constructive.

The idea of introducing dailies wasn’t to add to people’s work load, it was to offer additional rewards for doing things that people typically did anyhow. That’s why it includes world bosses, vistas, and gathering. It was meant to benefit those who play often (as in more days of the month).

I admit that the current implementation leaves a lot of room for improvement. Even so, at the very least, it fulfills the goals of the mechanic: people who play every day get are rewarded for ‘loyalty’ — the frequent flyer program of GW2.

In contrast, your proposal emphasizes the achievement points and would require people to spend more effort instead. I feel we already have that system in the form of living story and new zone achievements: you have to spend a lot more effort for those achievements, which tend to also offer more AP as well.

tl;dr The proposal, as structured, goes against the stated goals of the daily mechanic.

PS I’m not against adding those things into the game, but not to replace the current system.

The super easy dailies are there for the brand spanking new players who don’t have a single level 80 yet (they only need to do 1-2 of them rather than 3 for the AP).

The purpose of dailies is to create an incentive to do the content that ArenaNet wants people participating in, not to hand out AP to everyone for logging in.

The idea of making different tiers of dailies based on current AP level is interesting, but it would need to be worked into the design goal of incentivizing those players to do specific tasks.

I don’t think dailies are meant to be challenging- they’re a little bonus for doing regular day-to-day things whilst also incentivising people to play game-modes they may not normally play.

I also think dailies are there to entice people just to play the game for a little while every day (who may not bother to otherwise). Like the daily log-in reward system, many people believe this to tie in with the gem store so players are more likely to see (and buy) gem store items.

The dailies you proposed sound closer in difficulty/time used to monthlies (and we all know that monthlies got scrapped). They do not support the idea of a casual MMO. I feel that your suggestions would cater for a very small minority of the player-base and the rest would complain that they are being left out.

I feel good that I’m being rewarded with Achievement Points just for being a loyal and regular player.

There should be more dailies like you said, such as jumping puzzles, like 1 a day instead of specific one, different world bosses and crafting items too.

I support Crystallize’s suggestion for harder, more involved content. I’m not sure that Achievement Points are the vehicle for rewards for such, though. He’s offered some increased reward ideas for these new daily what-have-you’s. Maybe more along that line would be a good thing.

Achievement Points are a currency that isn’t really about “achieving” or doing hard things. Very few “achievements” are actually things that are achievements in the real sense of the word. Slayer? Gained (except Giants and maybe Plants) via just playing in PvE. Weapon Master? Gained just playing. OK, the off-hands take time, but time-consuming does not equal hard. AP is a currency put in to provide some small rewards for doing just about anything in the game. It was never meant to be a currency that favored skill, just attendance. The fact that people are concerned about their AP is just a function of the really bad reward system in this game, where AP chests look good by comparison to the usual.

As for the dailies… they need work, and the fact that ANet doesn’t seem to see that is disturbing. I believe they should offer minimal rewards, and the AP plus chests is fine for that. I believe they should stop being ANet’s lash to drive players into different areas of the game. I think the ground gained by PvP/WvW players needs to stay or expand, PvE needs to return to something closer to the freedom it had in the prior iteration, and the low-level herd events garbage game-play has to end. I also believe that dungeon-delvers need their own category. ANet needs to stop pretending that all PvE players are the same.

In conclusion, I hope Crystallize is willing to consider a modified approach that would add more involved dailies with better rewards for those who want something like that. More to do is never a bad thing in an MMO. I did Zaishen Missions and Bounties in HM in GW for a long time before tiring of it. Iirc, that was a system put in by the GW life support devs, and gave a lot of players a lot to do. Finally, I think that turning AP into real achievements after so long is a pipe dream, and only going to hinder what might otherwise be a good suggestion.

You want a daily that took skill? How about one that trained us too- or added to social play.

I would like the dailies that could be done anywhere back and promoted these aspects.

I guess perhaps, this system could accompany the daily system.. or something.

My worry right now is, that a lot of people (even myself at times) log in to do the daily and then log out. I get for some people who have time constraints the new system wouldn’t particularly cater to them. My suggestion here isn’t a finished version, but more an idea to spark change in the way we are rewarded.

Scrap the current reward system for the dailys.
A lot of people do, log in for daily. Maybe idle in Lions Arch for an hour or two and then log out.

Replace the dailys with very simple tasks (non specific)

Daily Gatherer
Daily Vista Viewer
Daily Reviver
Daily Dungeon Completer
Daily Dodger
Daily Fractal Completer

Daily PvP Winner
Daily PvP Killer
Daily PvP Defender
Daily PvP Capturer

WvW Defender
WvW Tower Capture
WvW Yak Killer
WvW Yak Escort
WvW Land Claimer

Only 3 of these are required to complete the daily as is now but all are available every day.

These are things that the majority of people will do every day.

Perhaps this system could be a weekly challenge ~

This would perhaps be similar to the Monthly system – however instead of awarding AP it gave out some decent Rewards.

Every week the challenge list could be:

21-30 Fractal – Reward = +5 Agony Infusion
31-40 Fractal – Reward = +8 Agony Infusion
41-50 Fractal – Reward = +10 Agony Infusion or.. Fractal Weapon Chest or.. something..

Complete the Skritt Jump Puzzle = Exotic Item ~Including Precursors/Collection items (Skritt steal things so from like Jormags chest/Orr chests)

Complete Scavengers Chasm = Again scavenger’s chasm, could be exotic items or rare items for collections.

Kill the Vinewrath = 200 Bandit Crests or..10 Bandit champ bags

Kill Tequatl = Additional Champ Bags or a guaranteed Exotic (ie. the Mini/Fang)

Trip Trouble = Additional rewards

Sorry to WvW/PvPers my creativity for your challenges is kinda 0 :c
But as I said, this isn’t a finished idea

Win 20 PvP Matches (not hot join)= Special Reward Box with Tribal Armor/Weapon skins (pick one)
Win 10 PvP Matches as 1 class (not hot join) (any class, just 10 wins on that same class) = Exotic box for that class
Kill 50 Players (not hot join)= 20 PvP Potions
Capture 50 points = 10 pvp potions

Capture SMC 10 times = 5 Kegs of World Exp
Capture a Keep 20 times = 20 Superior Siege of choice (10 golems)
Capture a Tower 30 times = 30 Basic Siege of Choice (15 golems)
