Thank you very much for changing the daily to remove things like the dodge and combo field kills. That is awesome.

Might I take a moment to request that you put in a weekly that has things like underwater kills, kill variety, and open world focused events (even crafting) to give a third means of gathering laurels?

Thanks.

Daily requeriments rotates … They removed the combo field kills but they DIDN’T remove Dodge. Just din’t take part of today.. maybe tomorrow.

Dodge is one of the easiest achievement.. why you complain?

Although I haven’t had an issue with it, I can see how people would have issues with the dodge achievement – running on an older computer or a slower connection delays/lags people out, so timing your roll can be nearly impossible sometimes, even with some of the really long enemy animations.
This makes me wonder to what happened to “you don’t have to do every single daily to get a reward; you will have a choice.” Did ANet “forget” about saying this, or is it coming later?

Sorry but DODGE is a core mechanism of the game. If your computer can’t handle that, you have worse issues than completing the daily achiev.

About the optional daily… they didn’t promise this in this patch. “Soon”

I’ve been wondering that very same thing. I would love the option to skip one if I need to. I hope we get an update on this point soon.

yeah me too if it rotates I thought they were gone oh well.

Whatever happened to choice, guess it went out the window with the mobile apps and the “choice” of things to do for good loot.

Anyone know what the Laurel Vendor one is? Oh well at least that one is easy. :P

1) I believe the choice of achievements is on its way in a future patch.
2) Dodging and ‘dodging’ are pretty distinct. Some people get out of the way during the windup of an attack. Some people use dodge just to get out of the way in general, keeping their distance. Personally, I use my clones for damage dummies, and rarely get attacked myself. In each of these cases, you don’t get credit for dodging. Dodge credit was only awarded for dodging after an attack animation commences (after windup). A lot of players just get out of the way before then, using positioning to their advantage. It’s still dodging, it’s just cutting it a lot less close.

That being said, getting the dodge achievement isn’t hard at all. Just find some AoE to dodge through. The frost wurms in Frostgorge Sound were particularly fast, and you can get the revives from the lake north of Slough of Despond at the same time.

You’re being a bit aggressive, but alright, I’ll bite.
Most of the PvE content can easily be played without having to dodge. I personally use it often, because it’s easy for me and I find it fun, but you can play without it if your specs necessitate it.
It’s easy enough to 1. stack heals and buffs on yourself to not need dodge and 2. to kite the majority of attacks that are coming your way, especially from melee enemies. To add, though, the person I know who is in this situation couldn’t care less about dailies, he just plays the game to play the game, I’m just giving examples of how that daily could be problematic. Personally, my solution would be to skip doing dailies that day if you just can’t do ‘em until the 4/5 feature is implemented – it won’t kill you.

I don’t understand the point of rolling out the “new and improved” daily system without all of the features, but I guess by now such an attitude should be expected from ANet.

There is a world of difference between dodging and getting “Evade” to proc. The window for proccing Evade is fractions of a second. If you dodge during a skill wind-up, Evade doesn’t proc. You have to wait until the split-second before the skill actually fires its damage-producing portion in order to get the successful Evade to count against the achievement.

The fact that you have to wait up until the point of very nearly getting hit by a big skill is what people are complaining about. Evade should proc through the wind-up of a big skill, since that’s when you’re most likely to dodge it.

Nope… Search for any enemy with AOE damage. Like the worms in Diessa. When you see the red circle, go into it. Dodge. EVADED. Done.

I would like to also say thank you for removing the combo achievement requirement. That would not have been a fun one to keep in the rotation.

As others have pointed out, the dodge achievement is actually for getting the Evade proc, not just dodging. One can dodge attacks and never get the proc just by being a bit early. I found I needed to corner a mob and actively change my timing in order to get the Evade to proc.

It’s not a big deal but it brought a certain feeling of artificiality that I had never experienced in the game. It’s good to see that the other achievements don’t seem to need that particularly because we can rez NPCs for the healer achievement.

It would have been a pain if needed to raise players for that heal daily. I originally thought that and went to WvW to find people to rez, which is just wrong. One should go to WvW to kill enemies. And I saw the Bogotter/Richie P video where he showed he and his friends cliffjumping to kill/rez each other before he found out you could use NPCs. I’m very glad most dailies so far won’t encourage that kind of thing.

That’s NOT dodging as a core game mechanism, as you originally stated. That’s artificially walking INTO damage and then dodging in order to satisfy a silly daily requirement; you’re using Dodge in a way that’s completely opposite to its intent.

(And for the record, I personally know about this, and completed my daily the same way with Embers and dodging through their lava founts yesterday. The point is, this is NOT teaching you how to dodge out of damage, it’s teaching you how to get Evade to proc. What exactly is the point of that?)

i use to quite enjoy doing the daily and getting my little bit of cash and nice load of karma – probably 4 out of 5 days it was the reason i would log in – i would just incidentally get hearts, vistas and skill points done
this is a complete sea change for me – i don’t want to nor do i craft every day even though i consider myself a crafter/gatherer sort – dodging seems hit or miss (literally and figuratively) to me for a ranged character – i don’t know the whereabouts of every “veteran” npc in the game – the daily has just become annoying
having only logged in once since the change – rarely did i miss a day before – oh well, more time for “firefall”

I think the dodge daily needs to be seperated from ‘dodging attacks’. The latter just requires you to remove yourself from the vicinity of a mob before it damages you (although this is harder than it sounds as they do seem to have a looooong reach at times, in melee) but the former requires you to move away within a certain, specific, time frame. The two are not, in any way, comparable except for the lack of damage received. I can, for instance, get out of a mobs damage range whenever I so desire, BUT I find it a right pain in the posterior to get the kitten timing right for the dodge daily.
So, please, stop insinuating people who don’t like the dodge daily can not dodge in combat. Its more like a QTE to be honest.

honestly i feel that the game tries to do two thing at the same time and in the process ends up being neither fish nor fowl.

On the one hand we have things like dodge, blocks and short duration controls that are more there to interrupt someones big gun than actually control in the classic sense. This while forcing us to monitor the enemies animations rather than some UI indicator. the combination almost demands a fixed, up close, over the shoulder or first person view.

But on the other hand we have things like ground targeted, channeled effects that demand we stand around. for these to be used effectively we need to have a drawn back, strategic view of the ongoing events to properly place them. But when doing so we loose the detailed needed to dodge, block or interrupt incoming attacks because the enemies becomes indistinct blobs.

In essence we have a game that wants us to play it like a action game, but where the UI and controls are firmly classic MMORPG in their nature. end result, imo, is that we fight the UI almost as much as we fight the enemy.

Dodging is easy once you get the hang of it. Find a wurm that doesn’t spit things at you, let it go underground and tunnel to you, wait about one second, dodge, and evade pops up. Done. Of course trying to get that 15 times if you don’t always have good timing can be a pain. As long as you move just before the wurm pops back up, there will be no damage from the thing at all. You can run circles around it for hours.

they took something pretty enjoyable (for me – although sometimes getting the variety kills…………..) and made it annoying
i certainly dodge a lot in the normal course of events but apparently not the kinda dodging this requires

You need to read “Evaded!” on the screen. If you do any dungeon or fractal on the day, you are most likely to get it done automatically anyways. With my playstyle i normally get it while doing the events and the rest of the daily. If you dont or cant due to lag/old hardware… Go find an AoE and roll through it :/

It is way better then killing 60 mobs each day or find 15 different types, but thats just me~

Helpful tip to complete the dodge daily: Golems. When they do that attack where they’re shooting rapidly with both arms, dodge. You can get 4/5 evades out of one single dodge.

They must have taken my marbles away.
But they gave me plenty of porous bones to compensate.

So far, the only one I don’t like much is the crafting. It’s easy enough of course, just something I usually avoid most of the time after getting the master crafter title.

Exactly. When this whole discussion came up, I went out and tested the way I dodge last night and I found I can successfully avoid damage from melee attacks, ranged attacks and red AoE circles would ever getting the Evade proc.

I had to alter my dodge timing in order to get the proc and get the achievement earlier this week. It felt quite unnatural.

It’s good if that daily made players aware that dodging was in the game. I’ve heard stories of level 80s who didn’t know about that mechanic if you can believe it (actually I can, nowhere in the game is it explained to PvE players). But it’s still weird needing to fighting a mob and not killing it just to focus on altering the timing of one’s dodge if you’re a player who has always done it early.

Have no probs with the new dailies. As long as they never try to make me do JPs, I’m good. x] tho the combos mighta been a prob. I never paid attention to what they were when they happened as I fought. To busy not dying.
