With the laurel system active, I think Daily/Monthly/Repeatable achievements shouldn’t give points anymore. Note that I have more than 5k achievement points, and most come from dailies and monthlies, so I’m not biased/jealous of those who have lots of points.
My reasons?
- The points the daily gives now are just too much. Each daily gets you 25 points. When you see someone with a lot of points, you can’t think “Oh, look, he’s done a lot of stuff”. There’s no way to know. It was a problem before, but it’s going to get worse, but no matter the amount, they will give problems (same for repeatables, there’s people with 20k+ points thanks to them, which is just wrong).
- Bugs can screw with people (just like yesterday’s combo kills, 2h and I couldn’t get neither the points nor the laurel, got left at 8/10). Limited stuff that gets recorded should be bug-proof (nothing can be perfect, but they should compensate players affected by them).
- Dungeon and fractal daily bonuses have no corresponding achievement points, and they’re daily stuff, too. The difference was dailies and monthlies gave no special stuff (mystic coins aren’t account bound), while those other did; however, with laurels they’re at the same level now.
If you want to record completion statistics for these achievements, it can be done in some alternate way (look at the sPvP stats, for example), but mixing points from do-once stuff with daily-limited things is just wrong, and unfair against those who can’t complete them again and again. Missing the reward is enough punishment, no need to make them stay behind in achievement points (also think about new players, that will always be left behind by a huge margin).
Opinions?
TL;DR: Do-once achievements and daily/monthly/repeatable stuff shouldn’t be recorded together, because it makes achievement points be meaningless, while punishing those who don’t/can’t complete them at the moment.
