Whoever bursts firsts or uses active defense/invuls better wins. Fights in spvp are less than 5 seconds per encounter, world bosses just melt, and I don’t even want to think about fully buffed roamers in WvW.

Players don’t have the health pools for the crazy amounts of damage going on.

just a shot in the dark:

are these the player’s whose health pools are too low because they build in order to maximise the crazy amounts of damage going on?

have you tried building Vitality/Toughness/Healing? that might, y’know, make you live longer?

have you tried building Vitality/Toughness/Healing? that might, y’know, make you live longer?

Nah makes no difference. This is because the damage is multiplied so hard via coefficients. An example is warrior 20% more damage from zerker’s power. When you have a small amount of power it scales very low, when you have a ton it scales mutiplicatively.

It’s created a dynamic where using full PvT gear makes you survive maybe one spike more than the other guy, but you deal so little damage it will take you 10x as longer to kill him.

In the current game system, defensive stats carry so little value in comparison to offensive ones. What keeps people alive is not power, not vitality, not toughness, but active defenses like blocks, stealth, dodge chains, and invuls. Note that the classes with the best access to these were the ones that dominated, like the permadodge acro sword thief in world tournaments.

You can get many of these things with offensive gear and be tanky enough. We saw this with meditation guardians last meta.

TD;LR

Even if you run tanky gear, your still going to get blown the kitten up.

See, I’ve actually been living longer since the patch, both in pve and wvw (I don’t spvp, can’t speak to that).
