Want to suck up leather? Introduce new recipes, new mf material sinks, might even reduce drop rate which I’m pretty sure 99% wouldn’t even care at that point. But now, incidentally, light ascended armor has to be the the most expensive due to the combined sink rate of silk and leather. For the price of one damask patch, you can buy an elonian square and a deldrimor ingot with a few golds to spare.

I do not mind crafting ascended at all. I understand ascended is a grind. But when I do, I must make sure my wallet isn’t being undermined compared to the other options. How is this fair at all? Why are we the one paying prices for the failure of the market itself?

Second this. Leather mats are ridiculously overpriced right now and there’s almost no way to get them in-game short of wasting a character slot on a perpetually level 40 toon who will be used expressly to open chests and salvage.

Something needs to change.

I never really had an issue with leather, although I haven’t really done as much playing recently (so not as much salvaging) to now how badly the salvage and loot changes are going to hit me. Cloth has pretty much always been my bane though.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Market failure isn’t a case of stuff becoming more expensive — market failure is when it’s no longer possible for the market to efficiently transfer goods from suppliers to consumers.

Rising prices doesn’t mean the market failed, if the demand was suddenly overwhelmed by the supply, as happened when HoT was introduced. The primary reason for the high prices: everyone wants this stuff now and a lot of people are willing to pay a premium for it.

tl;dr don’t want to spend that much? wait out the current demand cycle

I think what people mean by failed is in the way arenanet paints with a hose rather than a pen for these adjustments. They could do one small tweak and then another but instead they do huge multi layered changes that makes things go from one side of the spectrum to the other. I do not understand how making everything extremely expensive while also removing all the ways of attaining gold is “healthy” for the game.

Waiting for the demand to pass is silly as that is just speculating. For TP investors it might work out but for the normal folks those prices aren’t going to come down to a reasonable price. After the inclusion of ascended armor where they also adjusted the recipes for silk, have the prices for silk ever dropped in any significant way? They just did the exact same thing to leather as they did to silk so how can we expect those prices to ever come down? The only people this is good for is the TP investors since higher priced items tend to have larger margins making it easier to make money if you already have lots of money to invest. Everyone else will be stuck grinding 3-5 times longer.
