So, this is the first Legendary I’m crafting. From the moment Arenanet revealed they were going to do Precursor Crafting I decided not to buy Dawn and instead wait for the expansion.
My first reason was, I hoped that it would be a bit less expensive. Since there would be going effort in completing collections I expected the hours would go in there thus making the precursor less expensive.
I wouldn’t mind if it was actually the same price because I thought the collections would be fun.
Well I was wrong. And here is why.

The First collection was fun, just doing some events, completing a fractal. I totally thought this was going to be amazing. Until I completed my first collection and got the first recipe. It required 30 deldrimor ingots and 10 elonian squares plus some WvW and PvP stuff that in total cost me another 50 gold. In total this first tier was 250 gold.
At this point I was already getting suspicious, but 750 gold in total didn’t set me off too much.

So I continued with the second collection. Now the second collection is literally 40 deldrimor ingots, over 6000 mithril ingots and even more stuff I haven’t gotten too yet. It just lets you flush down all the money you have into this Master Weaponsmith who should at the end give you a recipe.

So here I am… about 450-550 gold further and I don’t even have the second recipe yet. So the question is, will it become worse? Will this all turn out to be not that bad?

I don’t know. All I know is that these kind of things make me want to kill myself. And if I end up spending over 1000 gold I will just go into full depression mode…

So please Arenanet read this and realise you’re making these collections way to expensive….
The worst part is, once you have invested money into the first recipe, YOU CAN’T GO BACK. You have now spend 250 gold on the old version of dawn but then fried in a gigantic microwave.

I will keep you all up to date.

So part of the deldrimor ingots turned out to be for the second tier already. Since the weapon parts are part of the collection for some reason in this part.

You took a gamble.

You gambled that precursor crafting would be cheaper (which arenanet never stated it would by the way) while having enough gold to even buy the precursor you needed.

Here’s the deal, when you gamble, you sometimes lose. You could also have waited 1-2 weeks for prices to stabilize and the market to normalize. Most important, you could have waited to find out what exactly is needed for the precursor crafting.

Either way, good luck on your precursor and eventually Sunrise.

What is it with you defending precursor crafting Cyninja? Fact is: there’s no reason to do even presurcor crafting now. Not for the hunt, nor for getting cheaper, nor for getting it in LESS time.

Buying it from tp is in EVERY single way (not just time and money) better. That is not what precursor crafting shoudl be. It should take longer, but be cheaper. The timer is correct now, price is not. You can agree to disagree.

All this will do is make me farm silverwaiste even more then in past. In secret Anet even made legendaries much more expensive. Cause with the gold deflation, and precursors costing same as pre-HoT, this is actually a price increase.

Legendary weapons can be hidden now!
No excuse anymore for not giving ‘hide mounts’-option
No thanks to unidentified weapons.

I’m definitely going to wait for every step of the process to be documented out in a guide. It seems way to risky to get into otherwise.

I’m not defending anything. I’m saying people were expecting something different because they were not paying attention to what was promised/announced.

Buying it from the TP is not better in every single way. Many players do not have the strength of will to grind up 800-12oo gold without spending inbetween. Others like taking small steps and not farming bazillion of hours.

Also, as mentioned, someone has already done the math for some precursors: https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/3q5yf7/crafted_precursor_the_legend_through_collection/

and you can even turn a profit. Ofcorse this profit is gone if you just instant buy from the TP.

I’ll give the game flack, but certainly not for things that were communicated but people wanted to missunderstand.
