Dead Whales in Lion's Arch
I was just up there and I thought there was something off on the loading, didn’t pay any notice until you mentioned it. Yep, them whales be beached. (That brings up something I’ve wondered for a long time: Why are the whales in this game so small?)

maybe everything else is just huge?
/giggity
And they’re in the nearby Vista too. It’s kinda creepy…
More than average fog and there are signs on the beach. I’m not sure if they were there before.
Also there is a ship in the harbor…not sure if it’s always been there but there is the same ship in one of the screen shots for the lost shores.
I got the whales too, and they vanished when I got close.
G-g-g-ghost whales!
Lost shores teaser!
If the lost shore isn’t leading up to the deep sea dragon, I can not imagine what it is leading up to.
I find a lot of things in this game appear in the distance, then vanish up close. It’s hard to even tell which ones are intended and why.
I’m on Magumma and i don’t see whales ever, i tried going up the the vista like you were at, and various other locations, but i did not see whales.
More importantly, did Clinton get his story quest finished?
:P
No whales here on NSP.
Apparently the wales aren’t dead, they are making animatiosn, like breathing.
I could get close to one.
I think it’s an ‘easter egg’ on stranded whales that happens around the world in real life. There are NPCs around the whale and water buckets.
- or perhaps the whales don’t get stranded by mistake, something in the water, perhaps, a underwater dragon is scaring them?

I have seen posters everywhere around the beach in Lion’s Arch, posters that are translated into something like
’’WARNING
Dangerous sea monster
Lion’s Arch luthorities kindly remind all visitors that sea monsters have
render our beaches unsafe for the general public. Should you choose to ignore
this Warning then upon your inevitable, grisly-…’’
And then I cba translating anymore.
But this sign is infront of that whale, so something must scare the whales up from the water.
Rangers should be able to tame dolphins and whales…. just saying
There’s water buckets, I got close to it but it’s upside down, can you revive it by watering it?

Actually, if you use the normal spirits underwater they take the form of a dolphin. The elite skill spirit takes the form of a whale.

No, but a live one might start to look less wilted.
The whales in Bloodtide Coast don’t seem small to me. They are alive, swimming, and big enough that I take care not to accidently anger one.
@Farzo – thanks for the translation!
Very cool. The hints of the upcoming event, that is, not that Tyrian whales are mysteriously dying
Really neat way for ArenaNet to build up to it. I think we should get used to this kind of thing. They could really have fun if they start to churn up more rumors or conspiracy-theory style events.
(I still chuckle to recall how some complained the first day of the Halloween event when it seemed there was so little to it. You’d think people would realize patience is rewarded when following Guild Wars 2)

On Sanctum of Rall server we have found 3 whales, one dead, two still alive. We are pouring water on them but I wonder if it will only prolong their programmed agony? Is there a way to save them and have them pulled/pushed back to the water? Or will they eventually die with or without watering?
Also I believe they are the first signs that sea monsters are indeed approaching the area -as the posters suggested.

Hi Baktwerel It would be cool if there actually is a chance of saving the whales based on the response of each server.
Rally the asura! They should be able to come up with a non-lethal (probably) way to get them back into the ocean.
Or get a bunch of norn really drunk and tell them there’s no way they could possibly push the whales back into the water.
Hiya Overlord
Those ideas are actually pretty good… the norn one is probably safer… I hope some developers are reading your post and will actually place drunk norns boasting in the near so we could convience/trick them into helping… I’m desperately trying to keep one of the whales alive… maybe if some guilds get together and have always someone at the whales pouring water on them, maybe they can survive the next update… but dunno… as soon as they are left alone and dry they will probably die… it’s so saddening, even though they are digital… not like the real ones are any less saddening, but still… would be nice if we could save them :c
Poor things. Hope we get to save them somehow.
Until then, I’m just going to pretend the whales are sunbathing and the people stabbing them with banners are acupuncturists wtf.
They chould make new event you have to push the whale back into sea
If only there was some way to magically manipulate the elements of water and earth in order to help these poor creatures! I’ve asked all the warriors, guardians, thieves, necromancers, rangers, mesmers, and engineers I know if they’ve heard of anything like that, but I suppose it’s just crazy talk.
Almost assuredly leading up to the sea dragon that scares sea creatures from the depths of the ocean. Which sucks because the last thing anyone wants in this game is more underwater fighting!
I’m hoping it isn’t the deep sea dragon. I expected that one to be in Cantha under the Jade Sea.
On my server we are trying to save em! :P
The two charr watching seem as though they might be contemplating a less savey approach, if you get my meaning.
Dead whales, lets get the bbq out and not waste them.
I would like an event to save them. That is all.
On my server we are trying to save em! :P
Awesome shot man
Just a thought, but right now I don’t think anyone really knows the sea dragon exists. With Zhaitan gone, perhaps it simply sent a champion or wave of minions to scout out the potential new territory and to get an idea of what sort of force could kill another elder dragon? This way we’ll learn of it’s existence, but it sets the stage to fight the sea dragon much later.
On Tarnished Coast, not only are the whales provided with water, but also with names and an extremely detailed backstory.
For instance, Jonah went to the moon and Willy taught children to read and write.
We seriously need to be able to save them somehow. I can’t keep dumping buckets full of water on them forever. (But I will because I have a weakness for hapless pixel mammals)
Yes, it is depressing, Whalesie and her unborn calf were lost. We are hoping to save Jonah George, her mate. Willy Lyssa is still alive as well! So there’s hope for the future.
<3 Tarnished Coast and the Tyria Wildlife Fund
I don’t know if I’ve had more fun in the game than dumping water on Willy listening to hours of ridiculously hilarious Whale puns and randomly chatting with pro and anti-whalers.
It sure would be nice to be able to push them back into the water at some point though. I’ve been giving a beach instability excuse, but I don’t think that anyyone’s buying it. It would be a shame to have kept them alive so long for nothing (<.< if dumping water on them IS even keeping them alive).
The absence of city guards coming to take you away for standing on a dead whale shows that the mythical land of Tyria is a much saner place than other places in real life.
Hey, the whales are gone on Sanctum of Rall! Did anyone see them slip back?
There were NPC’s trying to save them. One guy was squatted down with his arms under like h was trying to lift the whale and he was saying “Remember, lift with your legs.” And there are buckets of water. I stood on one of the whales and threw bucket after bucket of water on it but nothing. Maybe it will be a DE where we have to save the whales. The whales make pitiful whale noises too and look at you with their big eyes like they hope you save them! Very odd really and a little sad.
