When it states there’s very high population, it’s meant to indicate that there’s a large sum of people that have that World as their home and not how many people are logged in.

its deserted on all servers no matter what people tell you. i was and still am in the top 5 most populated severs and its ghost zones everywhere… sometimes i can run in a zone for almost two hours without seeing a single person.

Yep, this is what I have read from Arena net as well. How many of them quit after 3 months? Probably 40%.

Yea, the game could use some character wipes and migrations before the paid server transfers start happening. Being forced to pay a fee just so you can play a supposed mmo with other players isn’t exactly fair.

Basically, there’s a limited # of spots available in each server for accounts, and once they’re Full you’ll have a hard time transferring into it, even if half the existing acc’ts there are inactive.

I do think they should find a way to get towns and area’s more crowded, maybe by mergin some servers if that’s possible..
The fact is that you will get a different answer from each person as it will depend on your server, playtime and what you are doing in game.
Not everyone has the issue of not being able to find people to play with. When people come here and state they see people all over when playing it is probably becasue it is true for their experience.
I see people playing all the time. I see them in lower areas leveling. I see them in WvW fighting the good fight. I see them hanging around in front of dungeons me and my guild go to before we start the run. I see them in LA doing daily crafting and wating for fractal groups.
I am on Fort Aspenwood and play during prime time everynight which would be from around 6pm EST to around 11pm EST.

It’s true, but there has also been an Anet post saying otherwise, so no clear answer on how the server population is calculated. I imagine it’s something like a mix of both housed accounts and online players.
jeeez… again with this? It is common sense that middle zones Do not be so populated like the other zones… but i always found people wandering around.
WoW is a dead game? NO. Go to Silithus. OMG NOBODY IS HERE! THIS GAME IS DEAD!

I agree that there are dead zones (level 30 to 60 zones) on GoM but from what I have read this is a problem on all servers. Joining a guild helped immensely , I always have someone to run around with in all zones. I notice that our temples in Orr are open quite a bit so I am guessing that the higher zones have more action. If you need someone to run around with PM me in game. I’m usually on just after daily reset.

Earlier I was waiting outside AC while looking on GW2LFG for a group, and there were easily another 25 people forming parties. I have quite a few examples, but I’d rather not list them all.

One reason why low level zones seem dead is there is not enough reason to go back to low level zones once you hit 80. The loot scaling doesn’t work properly and you end up with tons of low level junk instead of level appropriate loot. I tend to either farm high level zones or hang out in LA on my 80 until a dungeon or fractal group forms.
Another is there are multiple low level zones for each level range and some are more popular than others.
Another is some zones are both huge and walled, you could be playing in the same zone with 100 other players and never see any of them.
Another is the time of day and day of week. More people play during certain hours on certain days. The zone populations surge on holidays.

Home worlds are for WvW and restrictions on changing teams is a good thing.
Guesting lets you PvE on any server with anybody (in your region) for free.

See this is what I do not understand.
If you log into WoW right now I can promise you that 95% of the gaimng world is empty. The same can be said for SWtor and other games such as Rift. People level through the content and then become concentrated into the higher level zones because that is where the content is.
GW2 is actually one of the only games that I have played that I still see people in the lower zones and spread through out the gaming world.
From my personal expereince over the last deacade I would bet that you will have a very hard time to find any MMO on the market today that has a mass amount of people running around in all of the zones through the game unless it is a relatively new release.

I’m on Crystal Desert and I see players everywhere. I seriously spend all the coin I make on WP’s. I’m all over the place whether it’s searching for chili peppers or looking for bats for blood – I warp to all different zones and always see players.
I stopped no less then 4 times today to help people take down a veteran or do a skill point.
Maybe I’m just getting lucky.

Yep, and that 3rd party site finds fantastic groups consistently, quite unlike random party creators from other games.
Don’t get me wrong, I’d like it if the exact same thing was built in game, but ArenaNet has bigger fish to fry.

Guesting is deceptive. We currently have this functionality with dungeons as you can group with other people. But won’t we still need to know people ahead of time to ‘guest’ with them in the open world? Nothing beats a PUG when doing random world events. And I also wonder if guesting will become an issue with dragon spawns and the like where people will go from server to server for these world events.
Need more details on how guesting will work but I see it not helping with low player zones and instead just opening up the door for more griefing.
Pinch: This should be IN THE GAME.

I’m level 43 and playing on Dragonbrand. I usually play anywhere from 3-12pm on the weekdays, and weekends I’m on late nights/early mornings.
Now, not all zones have a ton of people in them when I’m playing but, I have never gone into a zone and not encountered another player. I would say 80% of the time I have absolutely no problem finding people for champs and world events. When I do have trouble, it’s usually early in the morning.
I think it’s just about perfect in terms of population. Although I’ve always been a fan of smaller, closely-knit servers. If you’re having trouble finding people, join a guild.

The fact that you have to visit a third party site to find groups for events is incredibly ridiculous for an MMO that has been out this long. Is that tactful enough arenanet?
I also play on Gates of Madness. I really don’t see a population issue. Some zones are less popular, of course. It would be that way regardless of whether the server was full or not. Go ahead and go to another game and hit the mid-level zones. Everyone will be in the capital cities for the most part.
I also played WoW during BC and WotLK (at the peak of population). I had a very hard time finding even a 10 man raiding group during off hours. I was willing to join a new guild, and even farm dkp with them, to be able to raid late-night/ early morning. No luck there. They call it prime time for a reason.

I’m not looking for a ten man raiding group. I played WoW during those times as well. I also ran into multiple people in the zones.
Your experience was different than mine, imagine that.
I actually find quite a few people around, just don’t find them all that eager or willing to group up and tackle content together. I’m guilty of being anti social myself. Unless some one makes a direct appeal to group together I don’t make any effort myself.
