I am a huge fan for most of 10 years now. Keep up the good work. Zero complaints from this guy! During the course of GW1, players such as myself developed enough knowledge of the game to customize our builds for each adventure we went on. You gave us the ability to create and save templates. This was, in my humble opinion, the greatest and most useful feature of the game.

Most of the fan base has moved on to GW2 now and have enjoyed the story for almost 3 years. A lot of us have created and maxed many, if not all, classes in the game. We have had time to get to know the classes inside and out. Each player has had the time to develop many different builds for all the classes they play. Personally, it is becoming increasingly difficult to remember all the builds for each character I have. I actually keep a physical piece of paper next to me with all the builds I use. I also use it to track changes to builds that are “in-progress.”

I have a request ANet: Please include “Trait” templates in HoT or in a future feature pack. My suggestion is to limit the templates to traits only and to not include armor or weapons. I believe this would be the simplest approach. A simple Save/Load option on the current Trait window should do the trick. Much of your fan base would be extremely thankful. I know I would.

Thank you for the great game and story.

For any TLDR:

OP is requesting/suggesting a trait/build template feature to be implemented into the game.

I, and many others agree it would be a massive QOL feature which has been requested numorously by the player base but no word from ANet in regards to it.

What do you mean no word from ArenaNet?

We absolutely want to make build templates. They could work similar to GW1, but there are more components to a build now. Using the old string-code method may prove to be unwieldy.

Things that must be in a template:

  • Weapons
  • Sigils
  • Rune
  • Amulet
  • Skills
  • Traits

What could be in a template:

  • Skins
  • Dyes
  • Outfit
  • Finisher

Things to consider:

  • Sharing (chat links? codes? urls?)
  • Viewing (seeing some else’s vs. seeing your own)
  • Saving (notepad vs. local vs. account vs. web)
  • Building (one spot in UI vs. multiple spots)
  • Websites (third-party sites should work with in-game)
  • APIs (Could expose an API to third-parties)
  • PvP vs PvE vs WvW (each mode requires different configuration options)

How would you like to see any/all of these work?

+1
Templates really should’ve been added as soon as we were allowed to swap traits on-the-go. This will save me all the annoying clicking I have to do mid-run, and it doesn’t seem like something that’s all that difficult to implement, tbh.

Its taken me over two years but I’ve finally got around to having secondary and tertiary builds for a character that include gear, traits, and skills instead of just half-hearted attempts that include only a few changes. I’d welcome something like this as well.

Fire up the Hyperbowl ma, we’re going to town!

Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?

@Warcry: Thank you for this thread ref.

I had not considered most of whats on this list. I agree with what MUST be in a template but would be happy at just having trait templates. I can change weapons and stuff easily enough ooc. Skins a dyes are above and beyond my vision of it. I don’t know the coding required and how it’s all tied together.

Based on this post I can see why we don’t have them yet. Here’s to hoping we do some day. I will respond to the thread above with my input.

Ty again.
