Dear Anet,

I see a lot of negative posts in the forums and I just thought maybe Id take the time to let you guys know how much I appreciate this game and the work you put into it. Its a lot of fun and I met the love of my life on here. (you guys totally gots the hookupsss :P)

But seriously, I love this game. I have been playing since the betas to present. When I think about it and how far its come, I still get that new game excitement when you guys release content. I am thoroughly impressed with this game everyday.

I know there is a lot of criticism about things you do (and dont do) but youve done a great job with this game, and you deserve a little thank you now and again.

So thank you Anet. I hope to be playing this for years and years to come! See you in Tyria!

Sincerely,
Renoria Blackheart

I feel like it’s a slap in the face tbh. They need to stop wasting their time in threads like these and focus on the focus, and there are only wars starting in the other threads because people are frustrated by being ignored for so long

They hardly waste their time replying to threads like this, it’s fast and easy for them to reply to these threads since it won’t start a raging discussion/war. And by replying to easy threads like these it proves they are paying attention to the forums.

And they are reading the serious threads, case in point Gaile’s posts about the infamous Engineer Hobo-sack. There’s finally proof that Dev’s are looking at solutions for the poor Hobo-gineer’s.

(Disclaimer: I do have an Engineer, and the sack does frustrate me as well, any mocking is intended in a light-hearted and joking manner!)

No it’s not a slap in the face. Talking to people is what community managers do. If they can say something and have something to say, they will.

Do you realize how unreasonable what you’re saying sounds. They’re not answering the things you want them to answer, so they shouldn’t answer anyone? That’s just wrong.

You’re not being logical.

Okay put yourself in the place of someone who is paid to interface with the community. Someone complains about the trait system. You don’t have an answer for that. That answer HAS TO come from devs. You have to wait for devs to give you that answer. That means you have to get it from them. If they don’t answer it, you can’t answer it.

This thread, you don’t need to go anywhere to answer it. It’s literally 60 seconds of your time.

I’m not even sure what this conversation is about.

How can answering something that takes 60 seconds to answer be detrimental to anything else.

I get it, you want threads answered. That has zero to do with answering this thread.

Because they don’t have to go ask a dev, “Hey, what’s the likely hood X will happen?” or “What’s the progress on Y?”

Gaile doesn’t have to ask a dev, “Hey, can a post a thanks on a thread that thanks us?”

It’s not like it takes an hour to write a short post.

It honestly bothers me too, that random, silly, joke and complement threads, always are answered with a chuckle, nod, a ‘thank you’ or ’you’re welcome’ from ANet employees, but important threads, about things that are broken, or could use improvement, how the game could be bettered or strengthened, are always ignored. A comment like ‘your amazing anet’ will always get a thank you, but an important matter like, “why did you permanantly erase an entire story arch from personal story?” doesn’t get a word.

It really is a slap in the face. Other players on this forum might think we are just complaining and crying, that all we do is criticize anet, but WE LOVE THIS GAME TOO!!! We think their work is amazing too, that’s why we don’t want to lose it, or see it destroyed; so its only natural or us to be upset when something we love is erased!

That’s why, please reply where it matters, on issues actually pretaining to the life of the game.

I could understand they don’t respond to threads that are laced with explicit or emotion outbursts. However, there are threads out there that bring up and discusses issue in civil manners, but largely went unattended while the ‘safe’ happy-go-lucky threats get all the attentions, and certain that speaks well of priority. If every players are like the kind of people like the OP , the game will never get fixed because people like those lack the desire for quality improvement and contented with w/e thrown on the ground. While it’s good to keep a positive outlook, I would love it very much if issues will somehow magically go away just by going happy-go-lucky and praising Anets everydays.

Very true, and furthermore, most threads that do become inflamed, only become so because ANet doesn’t reply. If the plan is underaps, too amazing to be revealed without spoiling it, or if you don’t want to get our hopes up when it takes longer than you or we expected it to, or when you change your mind, or find out something just isn’t possible with the current mechanics; there are still ways to communicate with us. Even if all you say is “we are aweare of this issue, and are discussing (or working) on a solution” we wouldnt get so emotional and negative. Or sometimes, you have to be straight with us, break the bad new. Honestly, if I was ever to leave the game, it would not be because you’re overhauling personal story chapters (even though i like them the way they are), but because I was disguested that personal story would remain as this twisted crumppled trash heap, because you refused to acknowledge it is even a problem, not to mention what you plan to do with it.

So you guys want Gaile and the few other community employees to interrupt the devs to figure out what they can or can not tell us? What is the definition of important? Everyone thinks their thread is important or they wouldn’t have posted it. Is it number of posts? People will bump their threads to meet the post count needed. Is it number of threads related to the issue? Which thread gets posted and some.thing posted a lot aren’t things ANet plans to add, such as mounts, at least not to the degree that those who wants mounts want them.

And they do post in the contested threads on occasion.

Cutomer service requires you to talk to your customers, a healthy relationship between developers and consumers (in this case we skip a couple steps) is required for any product to succeed, and to encourage future developement and growth. If a big business does not communicate when consumers are reaching out to them, they are ultimatly failing -not just their customers- but their product itself.

If you have a problem with your cable, internet, or phone connection, you call your service provider, and they will spend hours with you over the phone. if, while at a store, you have questions, you can ask a floor associate, Iif you have problems with a transaction, you can talk to a manager. if we have a problem with a new computor, we can contact the manufacture to repair, replace, or refund. if we have a problem with gw2… we are met with silence.

and you do? whether or not knowing ‘how a big company works’ won’t change the facts that there are issues and that those issues are left unfixed over the year and ‘they work in mysterious way’ is not a good rationale. And ‘how a big company work’ ? what does it possibly mean? are you admitting that they operate for their ownself interest ? as a player, if you admit that much, shouldn’t the logical response be " ah …man! " rather than “woaaa, they worry about themselves above us and that is soooo cool, and how dare you guys complain !”

Don’t count the number of post, but the number of posters, calculate how long and how frequently a topic regulates the top page; a couple people will only bump a topic so long before they give up, I can’t tell you how many of my threads have died that way, but something that is truely important, is resilant, and will last the corse of months (like the cantha thread that will never die). Also, a little common sense, if the topic has to do with the core game play of the game, either the mechanics or storyline, then it is important regardless of personal preference. And it is not unreasonable that devs take a couple seconds from their day to aknowledge a problem, a simple one-liner, is sufiecent, and hardly takes any time at all.

And Im not kissing “anet kitten ”. lol some people just dont understand the act of expressing gratitude. I simply wanted to express my thanks for this beautiful game and maybe allow a few others to do the same.

As a person that has worked in a graphic design field, its nice to hear a “thank you” or a “you did a good job” every once in a while, since most of the time you hear constructive (and sometimes not so constructive) criticism of your work.

If you have a problem with this, make your own thread explaining how no one answers your questions or addresses your concerns etc. As i know, i cant stop you, Id appreciate if you could not make this into that sort of thread. Thank you and have a great day.

I personally have never said there is anything wrong with giving complements and congradulating devs for good work and amazing content, I have done so many times over the course of living story season 2. so I do not have a problem with this thread, the problem is that devs will reply to this type of thread, but not others that touch up on important matters.

As for starting our own thread on ‘devs not communicating’ we have done so twice, and twice these threads have been closed with Gaile informing us the second time, that she would apprecieate if we did not make a third. but with all due respect Gaile, until you start properly responding, even if we do not post, in our hearts, this topic (the simple desire to talk to you) will never die. please don’t give us such a tragic end.

I’m preeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeetttty sure the devs have mentioned why they can’t always instantly reply to every problem thread that pops up on the forums…multiple times.

Some of the problems with communication are definitely a bummer, but crying about not getting your way can only have so much impact when the avenue you choose to complain through (a thread showing thanks for the product) is inappropriate and violates rules therefore can be moderated. Why not go text the Anet Custodial Manager next about armor clipping issues or something? It’s about as effective.

To state it matter of factly, you should make a thread about your concern, not hijack another thread on a completely unrelated matter. You’re only wasting your time, my time and moderators’ time on an issue that, for all intents and purposes, should be taken seriously. But I can’t really take it serious here. You’re just riling up other posters with such complaints.

Tickets of this mater are replied with ‘you should post on the forum’ howerver, you are correct, this was not the appropriate medium through which to express my exasperation and fustration with the lack of communication, I appologize, and will not do so again, as it only serves to derail and discredit the topic of this thread. But, if not here, on its own featured page, or through email, then where ANet? You may wish topic to go away, and believe me, so do I, but it won’t dissapear, until things change, it will continue to itch at us, until we are absolutely disgusted with the game we love, all because you do not communicate with your customers. I only ask that you do not let it end like this. forcing us to bottle up our unanswered anxiety until we explode, is not the solution. so either give us a form through which we can communicate our anxiety, or erradicate it all together simply by talking to us… that’s all I ask. and its the last I will say here.

Late edit: Let me make it clear to any reading this. While I generally agree with the thoughts and ideas described in the OP, I feel like forums are primarily a place of discussion. I stepped in simply because it felt like people in this thread were trying to kill the discussion.

Otaku, you’ve made dissenting remarks, but there is no irrelevant content. The topic is titled “Dear Anet”, not “Thank you Anet”, and you have simply followed everyone else in expressing your opinion to Anet. The only hijacking going on here is others’ intolerance for dissent. Don’t apologizing for that, and don’t get bullied out by it.

In my opinion the fault lies mostly with OP here in making an ambiguous title, which I suspect may have been driven by a (conscious or unconscious) motivation to get people to click and read rather than skip.

Yes, “Thank You Anet” or “[White Knight Thread] Dear Anet” would get dismissed by some, with many skipping it knowing exactly what the message is inside. On the other hand, you would have a significantly stronger argument against dissenting views in such a topic.

Such is the double edged sword of ambiguity.

Content in this game will always seem

I would disagree with you there, while tittles are not without consequence, it is the opening body paragraph, or more specificly, the thesis that establishes the topic, and that is indeed to complement ANet. My plea, while perhaps not wrong, was truly mislaid, and has driven the this thread off topic.

You were right about the ambeguity of ‘dear anet’ drawing me in, as I was curious of what the op had to say, and prehaps that does have an unconcious effect, but as reasonable clear thinkers who wish to protray a strong effective argument, we must be able to control such pulls. I didn’t, and that’s were the fault lies.

This is a “Thank you Anet!” post, if you want to talk about how Anet adresses threads create a separate thread.

Just sayin’

I don’t think we’re in much disagreement here. I did not push all of the fault onto OP, merely “most” of it. While I may downgrade to “some”, it would take a very compelling argument to sway me further. (regarding OP’s intent, ignorance is not an excuse)

Perhaps we can look at the thesis. I’m seeing something to the effect of “ANet deserves a lot of praise. Discuss.” Most of the dissenting replies carry the tone of “ANet does not deserve that much praise because…”. Again, by providing arguments in favor of why ANet deserves thanks, OP opens up the door to arguments in opposition to that position. Perhaps if OP does not wish for a true discussion, OP can make a support ticket with the same message like she has been telling dissenters to do

So long as it is accepted for ANet defenders to post dissent in the “These are the things that are wrong with this game” threads, there should be zero issue with you or I posting in threads like this one.

Hmm, not enough people seem reasonable when discussing things on the forums which likely another issue that compounds such topics but again it’s good to know that regardless, there are people that can and will be civil on the forums. IMO, that’s what is needed to make real progress with the many problems of the game and many of the bitter posters only work against that progress.

I’ll admit, I was quite confrontational with my reply and had little other reason to post here. On topic though, I agree that GW2 is an awesome and fun game and Anet should be commended on their progress with the game. Me, however…I’d be lying if I say I play every day or even once a week. I’ve been keeping up with the game and it looks like the game will have some infusion of fresh ‘hard’ content perhaps next year if the rumors are to be believed. If not, I can keep waiting and look forward to what content is added soon.

On that, I’m somewhat borderline, while the format of the OP’s post was a letter, and thus does not invoke the intention to have a discussion, this is however a forum, where-in, discussing multiple views on an issue, is the principle objective. if she wanted it simply be be a clear, clean letter of personal thanks, with no dissention involved, then doing so via email ‘ticket’ would haven been the better option. However, I truly feel the OPs intention wasn’t merely to send her personal thanks, but to gather -as if on a silver plater- that of others players, which, would not be possible through a ticket, but as we both agree a forum is a place for discussion, does invite opposing positions. still, you must agree, that THIS is off topic, and if you wish to continue it, mail me through the forum, but don’t post here anymore.

On topic: I loved the new silverwast map, the integration of wvw gameplay into pve was genius, and what’s more, it worked! It also was perfecftly placed to effectivly drive the current storyline (of taking, fortifying and maintaining the pacts presence as they prepare to move in on mordremoth). This created intrigueing and fun group events that encurraged us more than ever to work together. I also loved the lore connections of episode 5, your story telling has improved expedentially, and it truly was fun to play. I won’t lie, glints lair had me bouncing and squeeling through multiple fan-girl-gasms. So, please continue fleshing out this amazing content, I love the direction you’re going Iin!

Real life isn’t a game. We had, in my family, almost the same exact Thanksgiving Day celebration every year. There might be some very minor changes (and there were some significant changes to rewards this year), but over all, it’s the same thing. It’s a tradition.

In Guild Wars 1, many holiday events were the same year after year, with maybe the exception of a certain reward).

The one thing in real life you don’t have to do every single Halloween is program stuff for a day. You buy or make another outfit. For some people that means an hour.

And that has nothing to do with the OP anyway. The OP is happy with the game and expressing thanks.

I understand having expectations. But judging a game on a single holiday instance, or even a couple just looks a bit disingenuous and certainly has nothing to do with the OP.

By the same token, there WERE changes this year, even if they weren’t changes to story, because this year the Labyrinth was far more profitable. The number of people farming it this year was a lot higher.

It was the same, sure, but it felt completely different. They also changes the maximum number of people in each labyrinth instance making it harder to have the same sized zerg.
