Dear Gaile,

first of all i want to let you know how much we appreciate that someone like you
finally starts talking to us.
Communication in GW2 forum is one of the worst jobs on this planet and you are still polite and very dedicated. Thumbs up

But i noticed something and was wondering how and why you give your answers.
They usually remind me always of my customer relations classes in economy at University.
It always starts with assuring the talk partner you acknowledged his opinion or complaint. But then you make sure the topic is moving somewhere else.
That remind me of my political classes….

So i would like to know why we don’t get any answers relating to a topic.
You know what i mean and i say this with the most respect.

A typical conversation example would be….. (just made up)

“Players:
Dear A-Net i am unhappy with recent content and would like to know,
do you plan new Dungeons or Expansions

Gaile:
Dear player thank you for your most important question.
We here at A-Net are absolutely aware of your thoughts and i can assure you
that we talk about these topics.
In fact we had a meeting yesterday talking about it.

The meeting went well and we had some catering with amazing cookies.
They had some powder sugar on top and had kind of a vanilla flavor.
My husband used to bake them like that. If someone is interested i can send out the recipes…………………….
Someone else has a question ?? "

I know you people have a tough time to deal with some strange people in here.
But i am absolutely sure that a majority of people looking for answers
can handle any answers coming back.

When people ask for weapons or what ever….. why can’t you answer
“No, we don’t plan new weapons or Yes, we are already working on it”

I know you since the GW1 days and you are actually known for going AFK to get some answers from higher authorities before coming back.

What happened………… why is even the the most plain and simple stuff turning into excuses ???
When people asked for communications, they actually asked for answers not
for random communications.

I say all that in a most polite way and want to make sure you are not offended by any meanings because this was not my intention.
I just want to point out that the community is able to handle direct answers
and that a healthy relationship must be strong enough to handle answers we or A-Net
don’t like.

I/we would appreciate it when more direct answers are coming our way.

Thank you for your time

A big fan since GW1

Do not engage in staff call-outs. Using the words “ArenaNet” or any staff member’s name will not expedite the answer to your query.

Then you should probably send her a PM rather than posting a thread about it.

This is a concern not only applying to me.
I want to share this with other people since they have the exact same question.
Isn’t this what a forum is for ????

I agree with OP, we are just too in the dark here. They tell us nothing, other developers would provide the gamers with a vision and direction they want to take, not here. It’s so kitten frustrating.

They did that before and a while after release.
Guess what happened every single time something was slightly changed or dropped?

Precursor scavenger hunt: People got mad… But not because it was dropped, rather because it got dropped and then they refused to give us any information for over a year…
The problem is still a lack of communication.

And yet based on your posting history you seem to be one of those raging about every little change that does not follow the exact original plan.

People are not being punished. They don’t HAVE to tell us anything at all. Simple as that. They CHOOSE to tell us some stuff back in the days. Which only lead to rage and spamming on the forums, which lead to them CHOOSING to stop telling us the plans in order to try and avoid those things in the future.

Except that they did give us information.

They said they were working on it. After some time they told us that they were changing it towards precursor crafting instead and that it was planned before the end of the year.
Before the end of the year they updated us and told us that it would not be done by the end of the year due changes to the reward system.

I agree, OP, I’ve been frustrated by this as well.

I also agree that posts like these shouldn’t be removed or locked, but it’s probably going to happen.

As another poster put it:

posting more when under a gag order is not better communication, it is just more communication.

She has to redirect the conversation to something trivial, because ArenaNet’s policy prevents their employees from sharing anything non-trivial.

What you’re describing in your OP is what I’ve been calling “the dance”.

I still feel bad for Gaile. It feels like after the communication blow-up, they just shoved her outside of the ArenaNet fortress of silence, bound and gagged, and told her to do a little dance to keep us entertained.

What changes do you think really impacted precursors?
What really happened was this:
1. Way to get precursor without RNG suggested
2. John Smith says “don’t do it, legendarys are to important to crash like that”
3. " Oh, uh…. We’re working on it guys, we really are!" … While waiting for new and unrelated change to use as an excuse for changing their mind.

We all know that precursors control legendarys, and legendarys control the market. But rather than admit that, they covered it up.

lol that’s a incredible lie.

But what do i expect from you, actually Vayne is missing here to make it complete.

What i am raging about is the way A-net is doing it.
- People ask for more skills… they deliver 1 skill they know nobody can’t use.
- People ask for contend. A-Net delivers a feature patch with a wardrobe.
-People ask for more maps and they deliver maps without conetnt

Everything is not even close to quality.
And everything is made without effort.
It’s just made to have an excuse to shut up people.
Then they have you and Vayne trolling around justifying everything A-Net says
to annoy people so much that they give up posting their opinions

This is what i am raging about. I can absolutely live without any changes for a year or so.
But don’t offer people shiny toys to get off the hook to create some quality.

Well all that is off topic anyways…………

It must be possible to have any communication between player base and corporation
about the future of the game without any bad feelings or harm intended

I understand OP and i greatly appreciate her effort and some of the answers she was able to give us. But, what OP said is basically the reason why i rarely check topics with red posts anymore. Because it’s probably just another hug exchange. Hey, yea i like it too, luv u all, <3, bye.

+1
I love the devs who try talking to us( I <3 Chris, Gaile, and John) but with Gaile it usually turns into a “let me get back to you on that…” Then the thread disappears before she replies or she just moves onto the next complaint.
Chris wasn’t much better, but he got us a few valid answers before his thread got shut down.
And John… Tbh I think John is secretly in charge of Anet because he somehow manages to get all the fun stuff (new forge mystery during Halloween), and avoid all the hateful posts… Plus we ( players) think there are more than one of him, maybe we’re wrong and really john is multiple devs…
(Food for thought, seriously though just trying to bring a little less hate for the good people bringing us this game)

I actually enjoy seeing more threads like this coming up alomst on a daily basis!
What I absolutley don’ t like about them is the fact that they “have” to.
If there would be any satisfying communication between the playes and Anet, there wouldn’ t bee that much threads like this.

sigh.

They don’t answer questions like those you outlined because company policy is to not talk about things which may or may not be in development.

That decision comes from way above Gaile’s head. It comes from powers higher than the Great and Powerful Colin himself.

Whether or not Gaile, Colin, and others agree with that policy is irrelevant. They’re just doing their jobs as best as they can.
