Dear WoW bashers...
This was…..interesting.
I agree. People say WoW is grindy, then when we say there are grinds in Guild Wars 2 as well, people say they’re optional. Somebody please call Blizzard and tell them that by simply stating that the grinds in their game are optional (which is true: nobody forces you to do tier over tier of content; there’s a huge world filled with quests, ripe for exploration) they’ll make WoW into a next-gen MMO.
Y u so angry?
On a related note: WoW is decent and fun. So is GW2. Neither is greatness.
Good talk.
1. This is a psychological thing. It’s real and true. Trying to belittle it is pointless. If you payed for a buffet, you wouldn’t eat less than one meal, would you?
2 & 3. There are reasons people feel the need to rush to endgame, and it is absolutely due to the design of the game. The vast majority of gameplay while leveling offers no challenge because any challenge prior to the level cap can be overcome with time. Because of this, you have to get to the endgame if you want any challenge (that is, you want an actual game) unless you want to play content over your level, which is like tying one hand behind your back. If I have to come up with my own ways to have fun, I might as well be playing something else.
I’m tired of this “You’re playing it wrong!” “The problem is with the players!” “There’s nothing wrong with the game!” crap. It applies to WoW, GW2, SWTOR, or any other game in existence.
If someone introduced their friends to a card game they made up, and they all hated it, their dislike is completely valid. He could cry that they just don’t understand it, but that’s still his problem, not theirs.
Even if people are playing a game “wrong”, the problem still lies with the developer. You could make the mokittenn game ever, but if no one can figure out how to play it, it’s a terrible game anyway.
NOTE: I notice that “most AAAA fun” (without the “AAAA”) gets changed to “mokittenn”, regardless of spaces and even periods. Guys, you need to fix this disgusting word filter. If someone wants to break it, ignoring spaces and punctuation isn’t going to stop them. Just block basic words and if someone finds their way around it, then take action on their post. It’s reached the point where it’s disrupting to normal conversation.

Hey Derpinator, please respond intelligently or not at all. No one cares for your ever so witty one-liner taken from Reddit. You filthy grommets and your inability to construct your own sentences are beneath me. The sooner you know your place the better; beneath my boot.
Grow up and learn to insult people properly.

I bet he even got his name from Reddit.

I agree … I love GW2 and I do love my new friend “Panda” in WoW.
I will play both and I will never rush thru …

I Agree, GW2 is a wonderful game but apparently some people need to be bashing WOW constantly to justify being here.
Why do you need to discuss WoW on a GW2 forums in the first place?
I mean, unless you want to take an idea from WoW and suggest it here, but I don’t see any one of you doing it?

3. “Gear treadmill progression blah blah WoW”
There’s plenty of other stuff to do in WoW. Don’t blame the game because you only wanted to do one thing. How much content did you skip or rush through on the way to 85 only to complain that all the game’s content is hidden behind “gear barricades”. Only some of it was, mate – and those of us who experienced it appreciated it for what a special thing it was.
Very little, actually. Only skipped bits in WoW that I didn’t think were fun, such as certain really annoying quests. Almost all of the content I didn’t do in WoW was because of the way it handled raids. Sad thing is, in the raids I did do, most of the people didn’t really want to do the content. People weren’t having fun, and they were easily frustrated whenever the tiniest thing went wrong. They would act like it was a job and anything that prevented them from going home sooner was nothing but a hassle. All they wanted was to get in, get their gear, and then move on to better things. To move on to that always-just-out-of-your-reach “better raid”.
When people say the grind in GW2 is optional it means that I can log on 3 years from now at 80, and still be as powerful gear wise as people decked out in legendaries.
This is not true in WoW. If you’re not on the gear treadmill, you shouldn’t even be playing.
I Agree, GW2 is a wonderful game but apparently some people need to be bashing WOW constantly to justify being here.
Or some people just hate WoW and what it has become.
I played WoW for 7 years and while I have fond memories, if I were to talk about it in detail 90% of what I say would be negative.
1. “Pay to play makes you feel like you MUST log in.”
It’s not the paying part that makes you feel like you need to log in, it’s the falling behind on gear that does. You missed that raid where that 1 piece of gear that you’d been hoping for 2 months to drop finally dropped, but you weren’t there so you missed out.
You didn’t gain conquest points for a week so you fell behind in competitive PvP.
It’s not the money, it’s the gear, which in turn effects how much your character contributes.
2. “In WoW you just rush to end game ASAP”
It’s because end game is the game. The game is balanced around end game. Also like my previous point pointed out, the longer you are not max level the further you fall behind on gear, thus effectiveness once you do hit max level.
Hit max level within the 1st couple weeks of the expansion and no one is going to say anything about your gear in the dungeons. Hit max level 3 months after the expac is released and you’ll be degraded for not being properly geared.
3. “Gear treadmill progression blah blah WoW”
There is plenty of stuff to do, but it’s no longer as fun as it was when you were leveling. Go back to Durotar to complete all your quests on your level 90 blood elf and enjoy one shotting everything and collecting your 1 silver quest reward. Same with dungeons.
Trade skills in every expac so far become worthless in no time.
You’re pretty much stuck with dungeons, raids and PvP at max level all of which turn into a gear grind so that you can attempt to keep up with the curve to maximize your fun/effectiveness.
