Hey, I recently started playing Guild Wars 2 again after a big break. I have been thinking of creating an alt, but cannot decide what profession I want to play, I’ve made a few and deleted them, being fickle.

I have a level 80 Elementalist and Engineer, but I also have a level 50 Thief. I deleted a level 36 Guardian, I hated it.

I find the Engineer very boring, and a bit weak to be frank. The Elementalist is kinda fun but requires waaaaay more effort than any other class I’ve played. The Thief is a bit too spammy for my liking, and I feel their range is crappy. I like the short bow but that’s about it. I deleted a level 36 Guardian, I hated it.

So, I’m a bit stuck as to what I should pick, and I’ve hoped coming on here some people might give me some suggestions.

I’ve tried pretty much all classes up to around level 12 except the Warrior, because I’m not a fan of heavy armour. I hate Illusions in games, and the Mesmer seems to be based soley around them. The Ranger in concept sounds fun, I love long bows, and the melee weapons seem good too. But I hate pets, and they seem to rely on, or be forced to use them. I got a ranger to around level 15 but they seemed incredibly simplistic and repetitive, with nothing really fun or interesting. The Necromancer has been interesting me more and more, but the same goes with Ranger, they seem repetitive, also, their pets appear to be terrible, but I could be wrong there. ATM it seems like a toss up between Ranger and Necro…

So, what classes have you stuck with as your main, what are the most fun or viable classes there are. In other words, what do you recommend for me?

Edit: I should mention that I spend most time my time atm in WvW and PvP, but I do PvE as well, casually of course.

When I choose classes I mainly look at what it can do.
How is damage? How is survivability? Do I get good mobility? Do I have ability to engage and disengage quickly or am I a slower class? Is this class limiting for my skills or allows to make full use of my skills?

And most of all check if you like the mechanics. I’d never play a mesmer for instance because I hate relying on clones and puking purple butterflies, but others love it.

I’ve tried elementalist, they were fun at low levels but the higher I got the more it seemed I had to work 3 times as hard to do anything because I was squishy as all hell. And way too many things to worry about.

I play a mesmer, It’s fun. A bit weaker then others and take a bit more micromanagement too. I’m not very good so I tend to completely ignore phantoms and illusions. Which I guess makes me a bad mesmer, but I never once claimed to be pro.

Disclaimer: Under no circumstance should you take this seriously.

I have a 72 Fem Hum Warrior that I’ve decided to stick with to level 80 then ill prob either roll a Sylvari something or an Asura Elementalist.

I understand where u come with with that the elementalist requires too much effort, unf though I also believe that the classes that doesnt require efforts kinda falls flat. At least thats what I feel with my warrior and with my lvl 50 guardian (which is trashed). Greatsword mesmer seem fun but alas I can’t really recommend a class for you.

I feel of all the classes there are only a handful well designed that are rewarding in this combat type of setting of GW2 and for me they are; Elementalist, Thief and Mesmer.

I’ve tried all the classes at the beginning leves;

- Engineer just plain boring, kiting kiting kiting didn’t like them with any weapon set

- Ranger could be fun but eventually forces you to kite which u dont want to with a stationary ranged unit.

- Necro; not my type, I liked them in GW1 since their pets was used as meat shields but its different here.

- Guardian; they are okay but I think the warrior feels more genuine though guardian has more survivability. I might roll a sylvari guardian down the road since their cultural armor and their cultural great sword would fit a guardian well.

- Ele; had a 40 sylvari ele, I liked him actually, funny to make use of so much skills, no auto attacking or boring kiting like some classes, when you kite you kite with your skills. Reason I stopped was because i felt that sylvari didnt fit for an Ele only asura does for me because asura and ride the lightning works great togheter since the asura are small.

- I’ve yet to play a thief but from what I’ve seen it doesnt feel like they are really taht fun in PVE whatever weapon set.

I think i lean towards mesmer tbh because they feel like one of the few classes that works with this combat system.

If you find the ele too much work I suggest a warrior.

Thanks for the replies/advice. I went for a Necromancer is the end.

It’s finding it surprisingly fun this time around, it’s a lot more about tactical thinking and strategically using your abilities, rather than spamming spells and button mashing like the Elementalist.
