Ok, so i know what an exploit is but, when do you actually determine that something is an exploit? For example, few weeks back there was the “Penitent Glitch” if you will, where the mobs just kept respawning etc. obviously i was there hacking them to pieces and getting some loot … then i read somewhere people got banned for it!? duont know how true that is, but it makes no sense. If they were using bots or whatever sure, ban them! Now same goes for the next bit.

Last night, while helping a friend out trying to do the Skipping Stones jumping puzzle in Southsun Cove (he sucks with great style, those knees won’t bend), i found a different route, skipping the entire geyser/stone area … i can only do it with my guardian, haven’t tried any other classes yet. I even have a video up on youtube of it, but decided to switch it to private. So … is that an exploit? Its in the game, and its not like i’m gaining anything from it, i always get crap from chests

If i must, i will share the video link here. Thing is i don’t want my account banned for not really understanding when its considered an exploit or not.

Example, that Penitent Event, if its bugged, its a server side issue, players can’t really be blamed for farming it, or at least thats what i think. And its not like you make tons there either, i certainly didn’t … maybe i was just doing it wrong

I play the game with as much enthusiasm as the next fanatic, i stumble upon things and just go, “hey freebies!”, i dont for moment stop to think if its an exploit or not.

except you obviously did otherwise you would not have posted this.

the “rule” is if its too good to be true it probably is. it’s anet’s game and they can do whatever they want to you for anything. its up to you whether or not you want to give them more excuses to exercise that power.

Eh, it is rather sketchy what is and isn’t an exploit when it comes to Anet.

Traditionally, an exploit is taking advantage of something that is not working as intended. Such as a bugged event that keeps spawning mobs and never ends (as you mentioned). If you are sitting there farming the bugged event for loot, then it is considered exploiting as you are taking advantage of a glitch/bug.

But as well, Anet has banned for things that were not bugs or glitches and that were working as intended. Take for instance the Snowflake “incident”. There was no bug or glitch. It was working exactly as it was intended to. It wasn’t a player fault that it only required one gem, it was Anet’s. Yet they banned a bunch of people for reason of exploiting, when they were exploiting nothing. It worked exactly as it should of. There was no bug or glitch they were taking advantage of.

Thus why most people are hesitant these days. If you find a good thing, you sit under the fear of whether it is an exploit or not in Anet’s eyes. Cause anything could be an exploit in these circumstances. So it’s a thin line really. There is no traditional definition in this game as to what an exploit is.

well, not fair for us to be punished for their faults, but this is how things are in gw2

If you find a change machine that gives you twice as much in change than you put it, what do you do? Stop using it and tell someone in a position of authority about it or do you feed every bit of scrip you have into it and collect the output in a bucket?

Yes this is just a game but the same question is valid, do you take advantage of what you found or do you report it to ANet, back away from it and keep it to yourself? It could be a get rich scheme or way to single-handedly take out some critter with no risk to yourself. If it means you have found a loophole in how the game is normally played and you keep using it, you are exploiting it.

People who exploit loopholes repeatedly and have not report it are shown the door.

We are heroes. This is what we do!

The thing with the snowflakes incident is the loop actually isn’t infinit. Since the snowflakes price and mithril will rise and everything will be at an equilibrium.

I actually thought for a while Anet was doing it on purpose to sell blacklion salvage kit. But I probably overthink myself, since price of BLSK is much more expensive.

The reality of what will happen if Anet do nothing is mithril will rise and snowflakes will rise to a point it won’t be profitable.

I might be wrong for what I said, I didn’t look at it in very detail.
